Malachi 2

1 And now, O priests, this commandment is for you: If you do not listen,	1 So ergeht denn über euch, ihr Priester, diese Strafverfügung:
2 And if you do not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, I will send a curse upon you and of your blessing I will make a curse. Yes, I have already cursed it, because you do not lay it to heart.	2 Wenn ihr nicht gehorcht und nicht von Herzen darauf bedacht seid, meinem Namen Ehre zu erweisen", spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, "dann schleudere ich den Fluch gegen euch und wandle euren Segen in Fluch. Ja, ich habe ihn bereits in Fluch verwandelt, weil ihr nicht darauf bedacht seid!
3 Lo, I will deprive you of the shoulder and I will strew dung in your faces, The dung of your feasts, and you will be carried off with it.	3 Seht, ich haue euch den Arm ab und streue euch Unrat ins Gesicht, nämlich den Unrat eurer Festopfer, und bringe euch zu ihm hinaus.
4 Then you will know that I sent you this commandment because I have a covenant with Levi, says the LORD of hosts.	4 Dann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich diese Strafverfügung gegen euch erließ, damit mein Bund mit Levi bestehen kann", spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
5 My covenant with him was one of life and peace; fear I put in him, and he feared me, and stood in awe of my name.	5 "Mein Bund mit ihm bestand in Leben und Heil, die ich ihm zusicherte, sowie in Furcht, daß er mich fürchtete und vor meinem Namen zitterte.
6 True doctrine was in his mouth, and no dishonesty was found upon his lips; He walked with me in integrity and in uprightness, and turned many away from evil.	6 Richtige Weisung war in seinem Mund, Verkehrtheit fand sich nicht auf seinen Lippen. In Eintracht und Geradheit wandelte er mit mir, und viele hielt er von Verfehlung ab.
7 For the lips of the priest are to keep knowledge, and instruction is to be sought from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.	7 Denn die Lippen des Priesters bergen Erkenntnis, und Weisung sucht man von seinem Munde. Er ist ja der Bote des Herrn der Heerscharen.
8 But you have turned aside from the way, and have caused many to falter by your instruction; You have made void the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts.	8 Ihr aber seid vom Weg abgewichen, habt viele in der Weisung wankend gemacht. Den Levibund habt ihr zerstört", so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
9 I, therefore, have made you contemptible and base before all the people, Since you do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your decisions.	9 "Nun will auch ich euch verächtlich und niedrig machen beim ganzen Volk, so wie ihr meine Wege nicht einhaltet und beim Erteilen der Weisung die Person anseht."
10 Have we not all the one Father? Has not the one God created us? Why then do we break faith with each other, violating the covenant of our fathers?	10 Haben wir nicht alle den gleichen Vater, hat nicht ein und derselbe Gott uns erschaffen? Warum sind wir so treulos gegeneinander und entweihen den Bund unserer Väter?
11 Judah has broken faith; an abominable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the temple which the LORD loves, and has married an idolatrous woman.	11 Treulos handelt Juda, und Greuliches geschieht in Israel und Jerusalem. Denn Juda hat das Heiligtum des Herrn, das er liebhat, entweiht und die Tochter eines fremden Gottes zur Ehe genommen.
12 May the LORD cut off from the man who does this both witness and advocate out of the tents of Jacob, and anyone to offer sacrifice to the LORD of hosts!	12 Möge der Herr dem Manne, der solches tut, Sproß und Schoß aus den Zelten Jakobs tilgen und aus dem Kreise derer, die dem Herrn der Heerscharen Opfer darbringen!
13 This also you do: the altar of the LORD you cover with tears, weeping and groaning, Because he no longer regards your sacrifice nor accepts it favorably from your hand;	13 Als zweites tut ihr folgendes: Mit Tränen bedeckt ihr den Altar des Herrn, mit Weinen und Stöhnen, weil er dem Opfer sich nicht mehr zuwendet und es nicht mehr mit Wohlgefallen annimmt aus eurer Hand.
14 And you say, "Why is it?"-- Because the LORD is witness between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have broken faith though she is your companion, your betrothed wife.	14 Ihr fragt nun: "Warum das?" - Weil der Herr Zeuge war zwischen dir und der Frau deiner Jugendzeit, an der du so treulos gehandelt! Sie war doch deine Gefährtin und deine durch den Vertrag geschützte Gattin!
15 Did he not make one being, with flesh and spirit: and what does that one require but godly offspring? You must then safeguard life that is your own, and not break faith with the wife of your youth.	15 Hat nicht der Eine (Gott) das Fleisch erschaffen samt dem Geist in ihm? Und welchen Zweck verfolgt der Eine? Nachkommenschaft durch Gottes Segen! Nehmt euch in acht um eures Lebens willen, und an der Frau deiner Jugendzeit handle nicht treulos!
16 For I hate divorce, says the LORD, the God of Israel, And covering one's garment with injustice, says the LORD of hosts; You must then safeguard life that is your own, and not break faith.	16 "Denn wer aus Abneigung die Scheidung vollzieht", spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels, "bedeckt sein Gewand mit Unrecht", spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
17 You have wearied the LORD with your words, yet you say, "How have we wearied him?" By your saying, "Every evildoer is good in the sight of the LORD, And he is pleased with him"; or else, "Where is the just God?"	17 Ihr belästigt den Herrn mit euren Reden! Nun fragt ihr: "Womit belästigen wir ihn?" Damit, daß ihr sagt: "Jeder Übeltäter steht in Gunst beim Herrn; an solchen hat er Gefallen! Oder wo bleibt sonst der Gott des Gerichtes?"
