1 An oracle: The word of the LORD is upon the land of Hadrach, and Damascus is its resting place, For the cities of Aram are the LORD'S, as are all the tribes of Israel,	1 Oracolo. Parola di Jahvè. Jahvè è nella terra di Khadrach e Damasco è la sua residenza: poiché a Jahvè appartiene l’occhio di Aram come di tutte le tribù di Israele;
2 Hamath also, on its border, Tyre too, and Sidon, however wise they be.	2 anche Hamat, che confina con essa, e Sidone, benché sia molto scaltra.
3 Tyre built herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver like dust, and gold like the mire of the streets.	3 Tiro può ben costruirsi un bastione e ammassarsi l’argento come la polvere e l’oro come il fango delle strade:
4 Lo, the LORD will strip her of her possessions, and smite her power on the sea, and she shall be devoured by fire.	4 ma ecco il Signore prende possesso di essa e butta nel mare la sua potenza; ed essa sarà divorata dal fuoco.
5 Ashkelon shall see it and be afraid; Gaza also: she shall be in great anguish; Ekron, too, for her hope shall come to nought. The king shall disappear from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited,	5 Ciò vede Ascalon con paura, Gaza con molto tremore ed Ekron, perché la sua fiducia resta confusa. E scompare il re di Gaza, Ascalon resta disabitata
6 and the baseborn shall occupy Ashdod. I will destroy the pride of the Philistine	6 e in Ashdod risiede un bastardo. Io estirpo la tracotanza del Filisteo
7 and take from his mouth his bloody meat, and his abominations from between his teeth: He also shall become a remnant for our God, and shall be like a family in Judah, and Ekron shall be like the Jebusites.	7 e tolgo il sangue dalla sua bocca e gli orrori dai suoi denti. Allora anch’egli diventerà un resto per il nostro Dio, e sarà come un gruppo di mille in Giuda ed Ekron sarà come il Gebuseo.
8 I will encamp by my house as a guard that none may pass to and fro; No oppressor shall pass over them again, for now I have regard for their affliction.	8 E mi accampo per la mia casa a protezione da chi passa e ritorna: su di essi non passerà più alcun oppressore, poiché ora ho riguardato la sua miseria.
9 Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, Meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass.	9 Esulta lietamente, figlia di Sion, giubila, figlia di e saloni ecco viene a te il tuo re, colui che è giusto e vittorioso, umile e cavalca un asino, un puledro, figlio di un’asina.
10 He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; The warrior's bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.	10 Egli sterminerà i carri da Efraim e i cavalli da Gerusalemme; saranno sterminati gli archi di guerra; egli detterà la pace alle genti. Il suo potere si stenderà da un mare all’altro e dal fiume fino alle estremità della terra.
11 As for you, for the blood of your covenant with me, I will bring forth your prisoners from the dungeon.	11 Anche tu: per il sangue dell’alleanza con te rinvio i tuoi prigionieri dalla cisterna, in cui non c’è acqua.
12 In the return to the fortress of the waiting prisoners, This very day, I will return you double for your exile.	12 Torneranno al luogo fortificato i prigionieri pieni di speranza. Appunto oggi lo annuncio: io ti renderò il doppio!
13 For I will bend Judah as my bow, I will arm myself with Ephraim; I will arouse your sons, O Zion, (against your sons, O Yavan,) and I will use you as a warrior's sword.	13 Poiché io mi metto Giuda in tensione, faccio di Efraim un arco teso: eccito i tuoi figli, Sion, contro i tuoi figli, o Javan, ti faccio come la spada di un prode.
14 The LORD shall appear over them, and his arrow shall shoot forth as lightning; The LORD God shall sound the trumpet, and come in a storm from the south.	14 Allora Jahvè apparirà su di loro, le sue frecce partiranno come il fulmine; il Signore Jahvè farà squillare la tromba e marcerà nelle tempeste del sud.
15 The LORD of hosts shall be a shield over them, they shall overcome sling stones and trample them underfoot; They shall drink blood like wine, till they are filled with it like libation bowls, like the corners of the altar.	15 Jahvè degli eserciti li proteggerà: divoreranno e pesteranno le pietre della balestra, berranno sangue come vino e se ne cospargeranno come i corni dell’altare.
16 And the LORD, their God, shall save them on that day, his people, like a flock. For they are the jewels in a crown raised aloft over his land.	16 Jahvè loro Dio li salverà in quel giorno come gregge del suo popolo. Poiché le gemme del diadema elevate sulla sua terra...
17 For what wealth is theirs, and what beauty! grain that makes the youths flourish, and new wine, the maidens!	17 Poiché quali sono i suoi beni? Quali le sue bellezze? Come il grano egli fa crescere i giovani e come il mosto le vergini.
