1 The oracle which Habakkuk the prophet received in vision.	1 - Oracolo che vide Abacuc profeta.
2 How long, O LORD? I cry for help but you do not listen! I cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not intervene.	2 «Fino a quando, o Signore, io griderò e tu non mi ascolterai? mi appellerò a te per la violenza che patisco e tu non mi darai aiuto?
3 Why do you let me see ruin; why must I look at misery? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and clamorous discord.	3 Perchè mi fai spettatore dell'iniquità e dell'oppressione, vedere la rapina e l'ingiustizia di fronte a me; si fa lite e la soverchieria prevale.
4 This is why the law is benumbed, and judgment is never rendered: Because the wicked circumvent the just; this is why judgment comes forth perverted.	4 Per cui dilacerata è la legge, senza corso la giustizia, l'empio prevale contro il giusto e ne riesce pervertita la giustizia.
5 Look over the nations and see, and be utterly amazed! For a work is being done in your days that you would not have believed, were it told.	5 Guardate fra le genti e osservate con meraviglia e stupore, perchè è succeduto ai vostri giorni un fatto che nessuno il crederebbe se lo sentisse raccontare.
6 For see, I am raising up Chaldea, that bitter and unruly people, That marches the breadth of the land to take dwellings not his own.	6 Perchè ecco ch'io solleverò i Caldei, gente efferata e impetuosa che scorre sull'ampia terra alla conquista di abitazioni non sue;
7 Terrible and dreadful is he, from himself derive his law and his majesty.	7 è formidabile e terribile: da essa stessa la decisione e la sua imposizione uscirà.
8 Swifter than leopards are his horses, and keener than wolves at evening. His horses prance, his horsemen come from afar: They fly like the eagle hastening to devour;	8 Più leggeri dei leopardi i suoi cavalli e più veloci dei lupi vespertini; e i suoi cavalieri si riverseranno, verranno da lungi i suoi cavalieri, volando, come aquile che tendono al pasto.
9 each comes for the rapine, Their combined onset is that of a stormwind that heaps up captives like sand.	9 Verranno tutti al bottino; la loro presenza sarà un vento avvampato, raccoglierà come sabbia la gente per la schiavitù.
10 He scoffs at kings, and princes are his laughingstock; He laughs at any fortress, heaps up a ramp, and conquers it.	10 Egli menerà trionfo sui re, e tiranni saranno il suo trastullo; egli si riderà di qualunque fortezza; alzerà terrapieni e la prenderà.
11 Then he veers like the wind and is gone-- this culprit who makes his own strength his god!	11 Allora il vento cambierà e passerà, ed egli cadrà: tale la possanza di quel suo dio!
12 Are you not from eternity, O LORD, my holy God, immortal? O LORD you have marked him for judgment, O Rock , you have readied him for punishment!	12 E tu, non sei tu fin da principio, Signore Dio mio, mio santo? No, noi non morremo! Signore, costui lo hai stabilito strumento di giustizia e lo hai costituito possente per servirtene a castigarci.
13 Too pure are your eyes to look upon evil, and the sight of misery you cannot endure. Why, then, do you gaze on the faithless in silence while the wicked man devours one more just than himself?	13 Gli occhi tuoi sono troppo mondi per poter reggere alla vista del male; resistere allo spettacolo dell'iniquità tu non puoi; perchè dunque stai contemplando quei che commettono iniquità e taci, lasciando l'empio divorare chi è più giusto di lui?
14 You have made man like the fish of the sea, like creeping things without a ruler.	14 Ragguaglierai gli uomini ai pesci del mare, ai rettili, che reggitore non hanno?
15 He brings them all up with his hook, he hauls them away with his net, He gathers them in his seine; and so he rejoices and exults.	15 Tutto ha tirato a sè coll'amo, travolto nel suo giacchio, raccolto colla rete; ed è in festa e in giubilo per questo.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his seine; For thanks to them his portion is generous, and his repast sumptuous.	16 Per questo ha fatto sacrifizi al suo giacchio, ha incensato alla sua rete, giacchè per essi più grassa è la sua porzione, più scelto il suo cibo.
17 Shall he, then, keep on brandishing his sword to slay peoples without mercy?	17 Per questo appunto ha steso la sua rete e non cessa di fare strage di popoli senza misericordia.
