Ezekiel 18

1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: Son of man,	1 Foi-me dirigida a palavra do Senhor, nestes termos:
2 what is the meaning of this proverb that you recite in the land of Israel: "Fathers have eaten green grapes, thus their children's teeth are on edge"?	2 Por que repetis este provérbio na terra de Israel: Os pais comeram os agraços, e os dentes dos filhos é que ficaram botos?
3 As I live, says the Lord GOD: I swear that there shall no longer be anyone among you who will repeat this proverb in Israel.	3 (Juro) pela minha vida, diz o Senhor Deus, que não tereis de repetir mais entre vós este provérbio em Israel.
4 For all lives are mine; the life of the father is like the life of the son, both are mine; only the one who sins shall die.	4 Eis que todas as vidas são minhas; como é minha a vida do pai, assim o é também a do filho. O que pecar, esse morrerá.
5 If a man is virtuous--if he does what is right and just,	5 Se um homem for justo, procedendo conforme a equidade e a justiça;
6 if he does not eat on the mountains, nor raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel; if he does not defile his neighbor's wife, nor have relations with a woman in her menstrual period;	6 se não comer nos montes e não levantar os seus olhos para os ídolos da casa de Israel; se não manchar a mulher do seu próximo e não se juntar com a menstruada;
7 if he oppresses no one, gives back the pledge received for a debt, commits no robbery; if he gives food to the hungry and clothes the naked;	7 se não oprimir ninguém e der o penhor ao seu devedor; se não tirar nada do alheio por violência; se der do seu pão ao faminto e agasalhar o nu;
8 if he does not lend at interest nor exact usury; if he holds off from evildoing, judges fairly between a man and his opponent;	8 se não emprestar com usura e não receber mais do que o que emprestou; se afastar a sua mão da iniquidade, e sentenciar com justiça entre homem e homem;
9 if he lives by my statutes and is careful to observe my ordinances, that man is virtuous--he shall surely live, says the Lord GOD.	9 se andar nos meus preceitos e guardar os meus mandamentos, agindo segundo a verdade esse tal é justo; viverá certamente, diz o Senhor Deus.
10 But if he begets a son who is a thief, a murderer, or who does any of these things	10 Porém, se gerar filho violento que derrame sangue, que cometa qualquer destas faltas
11 (though the father does none of them), a son who eats on the mountains, defiles the wife of his neighbor,	11 ainda quando não as cometa todas que coma sobre os montes, que manche a mulher do seu próximo,
12 oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not give back a pledge, raises his eyes to idols, does abominable things,	12 que maltrate o necessitado e o pobre, que tire por violência os bens de outro, que não dê o penhor ao seu devedor, que levante os seus olhos para os ídolos, que cometa abominações,
13 lends at interest and exacts usury--this son certainly shall not live. Because he practiced all these abominations, he shall surely die; his death shall be his own fault.	13 que empreste com usura e receba mais do que o que emprestou este filho não poderá viver: porque praticou tais abominações, deve morrer, e o seu sangue será contra ele mesmo.
14 On the other hand, if a man begets a son who, seeing all the sins his father commits, yet fears and does not imitate him;	14 Porém, se este, por sua vez, tiver um filho que, vendo todos os pecados que seu pai cometeu, os vir e não os fizer semelhantes,
15 a son who does not eat on the mountains, or raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, or defile his neighbor's wife;	15 que não comer sobre os montes, não levantar os seus olhos para os ídolos da casa de Israel, não violar a mulher do seu próximo;
16 who does not oppress anyone, or exact a pledge, or commit robbery; who gives his food to the hungry and clothes the naked;	16 que não oprimir pessoa alguma, que não retiver o penhor, que nada tirar por violência, que der do seu pão ao faminto e agasalhar o nu;
17 who holds off from evildoing, accepts no interest or usury, but keeps my ordinances and lives by my statutes--this one shall not die for the sins of his father, but shall surely live.	17 que apartar a sua mão de toda a injustiça contra o pobre, que não receber usura, nem mais do que emprestou; que observar as minhas leis, que andar nos meus preceitos este não morrerá por causa da iniquidade de seu pai, mas certamente viverá.
18 Only the father, since he violated rights, and robbed, and did what was not good among his people, shall in truth die for his sins.	18 Seu pai porque praticou violências e rapinas contra seu irmão, porque praticou o mal no meio do seu povo, (esse, sim, é que) morrerá em castigo da sua iniquidade.
19 You ask: "Why is not the son charged with the guilt of his father?" Because the son has done what is right and just, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live.	19 E vós dizeis: por que razão não leva o filho a iniquidade de seu pai? Porque o filho procedeu conforme a equidade e conforme a justiça, porque guardou todos os meus preceitos e os praticou, por isso viverá certamente.
20 Only the one who sins shall die. The son shall not be charged with the guilt of his father, nor shall the father be charged with the guilt of his son. The virtuous man's virtue shall be his own, as the wicked man's wickedness shall be his own.	20 O que pecar, esse morrerá: o filho não levará a iniquidade do pai, e o pai não levará a Iniquidade do filho; a justiça do justo será sobre ele, e a impiedade do ímpio será sobre ele.
21 But if the wicked man turns away from all the sins he committed, if he keeps all my statutes and does what is right and just, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	21 Mas, se o ímpio se apartar de todos os pecados que cometeu, se guardar todos os meus preceitos e proceder conforme a equidade e a justiça, certamente viverá, não morrerá.
22 None of the crimes he committed shall be remembered against him; he shall live because of the virtue he has practiced.	22 Não se guardará mais lembrança de nenhuma das iniquidades que cometeu; ele viverá por causa da justiça que praticou.
23 Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? says the Lord GOD. Do I not rather rejoice when he turns from his evil way that he may live?	23 Porventura será do meu gosto a morte do ímpio? diz o Senhor Deus. Não quero antes que ele se retire dos seus (maus) caminhos e viva?
24 And if the virtuous man turns from the path of virtue to do evil, the same kind of abominable things that the wicked man does, can he do this and still live? None of his virtuous deeds shall be remembered, because he has broken faith and committed sin; because of this, he shall die.	24 Mas, se o justo se apartar da sua justiça e vier a cometer a iniquidade, segundo todas as abominações que o ímpio pratica, porventura viverá? Serão esquecidas todas as obras de justiça que tiver feito; por causa da prevaricação em que caiu e do pecado que cometeu, por causa disto morrerá.
25 You say, "The LORD'S way is not fair!" Hear now, house of Israel: Is it my way that is unfair, or rather, are not your ways unfair?	25 É vós dizeis: O caminho do Senhor não ó justo! Ouvi. pois, (filhos da) casa de Israel: Porventura o meu caminho não é justo? Não são antes os vossos Injustos?
26 When a virtuous man turns away from virtue to commit iniquity, and dies, it is because of the iniquity he committed that he must die.	26 Quando o justo se apartar da sua justiça, para cometer a iniquidade, e morrer nesse estado, morrerá pelas obras injustas que cometeu.
27 But if a wicked man, turning from the wickedness he has committed, does what is right and just, he shall preserve his life;	27 Quando o ímpio se apartar da impiedade cometida e proceder segundo a equidade e a justiça, fará viver a sua alma.
28 since he has turned away from all the sins which he committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	28 Reconsiderando e apartando-se de todas as iniquidades que praticou, viverá certamente, não morrerá.
29 And yet the house of Israel says, "The LORD'S way is not fair!" Is it my way that is not fair, house of Israel, or rather, is it not that your ways are not fair?	29 Contudo, dizem ainda os filhos de Israel: O caminho do Senhor não é justo. Porventura os meus caminhos não são justos, casa de Israel? Não são antes os vossos injustos?
30 Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the Lord GOD. Turn and be converted from all your crimes, that they may be no cause of guilt for you.	30 Por isso, casa de Israel, julgarei cada um conforme os seus caminhos, diz o Senhor Deus. Convertei-vos, apartai-vos de todas as vossas iniquidades, e a iniquidade não se tornará em vossa ruína.
31 Cast away from you all the crimes you have committed, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?	31 Lançai para longe de vós todas as prevaricações de que vos tornastes culpados, e fazei-vos um coração novo e um espírito novo. Por que hás-de morrer, ó casa de Israel?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, says the Lord GOD. Return and live!	32 Não sinto gosto na morte do que morre, diz o Senhor Deus! Convertei-vos e vivei.
