1 "And the LORD fulfilled the warning he had uttered against us: against our judges, who governed Israel, against our kings and princes, and against the men of Israel and Judah.	1 Aussi le Seigneur a-t-il accompli la parole qu'il avait prononcée contre nous, contre nos juges quigouvernèrent Israël, contre nos rois et nos chefs, contre les gens d'Israël et de Juda;
2 He brought down upon us evils so great that there has not been done anywhere under heaven what has been done in Jerusalem, as was written in the law of Moses:	2 sous l'immensité du ciel ne se produisit jamais rien de semblable à ce qu'il fit à Jérusalem, selon cequi était écrit dans la Loi de Moïse:
3 that one after another of us should eat the flesh of his son or of his daughter.	3 nous en arrivâmes à manger chacun la chair de son fils, chacun la chair de sa fille.
4 He has made us subject to all the kingdoms round about us, a reproach and a horror among all the nations round about to which the LORD has scattered us.	4 De plus, il les a mis au pouvoir de tous les royaumes qui nous entourent, pour être un opprobre etune exécration parmi tous les peuples d'alentour où le Seigneur les dispersa.
5 We are brought low, not raised up, because we sinned against the LORD, our God, not heeding his voice.	5 Ils furent assujettis au lieu d'être maîtres, parce que nous avions offensé le Seigneur notre Dieu, enn'écoutant point sa voix.
6 "Justice is with the LORD, our God; and we, like our fathers, are flushed with shame even today.	6 Au Seigneur notre Dieu la justice, mais pour nous et pour nos pères la honte au visage, comme il enest aujourd'hui.
7 All the evils of which the LORD had warned us have come upon us:	7 Tous ces malheurs que le Seigneur avait énoncés contre nous sont venus sur nous.
8 and we did not plead before the LORD, or turn, each from the figments of his evil heart.	8 Nous n'avons pas supplié la face du Seigneur, chacun de nous se détournant des pensées de soncoeur mauvais:
9 And the LORD kept watch over the evils, and brought them home to us; for the LORD is just in all the works he commanded us to do,	9 alors le Seigneur a veillé sur ces malheurs et les a amenés sur nous; car le Seigneur est juste entoutes les oeuvres qu'il nous a commandées,
10 but we did not heed his voice, or follow the precepts of the LORD which he set before us.	10 et nous n'avons pas écouté sa voix en marchant selon les ordres que le Seigneur avait mis devantnous.
11 "And now, LORD, God of Israel, you who led your people out of the land of Egypt with your mighty hand, with signs and wonders and great might, and with your upraised arm, so that you have made for yourself a name till the present day:	11 Et maintenant, Seigneur, Dieu d'Israël, toi qui tiras ton peuple du pays d'Egypte à main forte, parsignes et miracles, par grande puissance et bras étendu, te faisant de la sorte un nom comme il en est aujourd'hui,
12 we have sinned, been impious, and violated, O LORD, our God, all your statutes.	12 nous avons péché, nous avons été impies, nous avons été injustes, Seigneur notre Dieu, pour toustes préceptes.
13 Let your anger be withdrawn from us, for we are left few in number among the nations to which you scattered us.	13 Que ta colère se détourne de nous, puisque nous ne sommes plus qu'un petit reste parmi les nationsoù tu nous dispersas.
14 Hear, O LORD, our prayer of supplication, and deliver us for your own sake: grant us favor in the presence of our captors,	14 Ecoute, Seigneur, notre prière et notre supplication: délivre-nous à cause de toi-même, et fais-noustrouver grâce devant ceux qui nous ont déportés,
15 that the whole earth may know that you are the LORD, our God, and that Israel and his descendants bear your name.	15 afin que la terre entière sache que tu es le Seigneur, notre Dieu, puisqu'Israël et sa race portent tonNom.
16 O LORD, look down from your holy dwelling and take thought of us; turn, O LORD, your ear to hear us.	16 Seigneur, regarde de ta demeure sainte, et pense à nous, tends l'oreille et écoute,
17 Look directly at us, and behold: it is not the dead in the nether world, whose spirits have been taken from within them, who will give glory and vindication to the LORD.	17 ouvre les yeux, Seigneur, et vois; ce ne sont pas les morts dans le shéol, ceux dont le souffle futenlevé des entrailles, qui rendent gloire et justice au Seigneur;
18 He whose soul is deeply grieved, who walks bowed and feeble, with failing eyes and famished soul, will declare your glory and justice, LORD!	18 mais l'âme comblée d'affliction, celui qui chemine courbé et sans force, les yeux défaillants et l'âmeaffamée, voilà ce qui te rend gloire et justice, Seigneur!
19 "Not on the just deeds of our fathers and our kings do we base our plea for mercy in your sight, O LORD, our God.	19 Nous ne nous appuyons pas sur les mérites de nos pères et de nos rois pour déposer notresupplication devant ta face, Seigneur notre Dieu.
20 You have brought your wrath and anger down upon us, as you had warned us through your servants the prophets:	20 Car tu as envoyé sur nous ta colère et ta fureur, comme tu l'avais proclamé par le ministère de tesserviteurs les prophètes, en ces termes:
21 'Thus says the LORD: Bend your shoulders to the service of the king of Babylon, that you may continue in the land I gave your fathers:	21 "Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Inclinez votre nuque et servez le roi de Babylone; alors, vous resterez aupays que j'ai donné à vos pères.
22 for if you do not hear the LORD'S voice so as to serve the king of Babylon,	22 Mais si vous n'écoutez pas l'invitation du Seigneur à servir le roi de Babylone,
23 I will make to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem The sounds of joy and the sounds of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; And all the land shall be deserted, without inhabitants.'	23 je ferai cesser, aux villes de Juda et à Jérusalem, le chant de joie et le chant d'allégresse, le chant dufiancé et le chant de la fiancée, et tout le pays deviendra une désolation, sans habitants."
24 But we did not heed your voice, or serve the king of Babylon, and you fulfilled the threats you had made through your servants the prophets, to have the bones of our kings and the bones of our fathers brought out from their burial places.	24 Mais nous n'avons pas écouté ton invitation à servir le roi de Babylone, alors tu as accompli lesparoles que tu avais prononcées par le ministère de tes serviteurs les prophètes: que les os de nos rois et les os denos pères seraient arrachés de leur lieu.
25 And indeed, they lie exposed to the heat of day and the frost of night. They died in dire anguish, by hunger and the sword and plague.	25 Voici qu'en effet ils furent jetés dehors à la chaleur du jour et au froid de la nuit. Et l'on mourut aumilieu de terribles misères, par la famine, l'épée et la peste.
26 And you reduced the house which bears your name to what it is today, for the wickedness of the kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of Judah.	26 Et tu fis de cette maison, qui porte ton Nom, ce qu'elle est aujourd'hui, à cause de la méchanceté dela maison d'Israël et de la maison de Juda.
27 "But with us, O Lord, our God, you have dealt in all your clemency and in all your great mercy.	27 Pourtant, tu as agi envers nous, Seigneur notre Dieu, selon toute ton indulgence et ton immensetendresse,
28 This was your warning through your servant Moses, the day you ordered him to write down your law in the presence of the Israelites:	28 comme tu l'avais déclaré par le ministère de ton serviteur Moïse, le jour où tu lui commandasd'écrire ta Loi en présence des Israélites, en ces termes:
29 If you do not heed my voice, surely this great and numerous throng will dwindle away among the nations to which I will scatter them.	29 "Si vous n'écoutez pas ma voix, cette immense et innombrable multitude elle-même sera réduite àun petit nombre parmi les nations où je les disperserai,
30 For I know they will not heed me, because they are a stiff-necked people. But in the land of their captivity they shall have a change of heart;	30 car je sais qu'ils ne m'écouteront point; c'est un peuple à la nuque raide. Mais dans le pays de leurexil, ils rentreront en eux-mêmes
31 they shall know that I, the LORD, am their God. I will give them hearts, and heedful ears;	31 et connaîtront que je suis le Seigneur leur Dieu. Je leur donnerai un coeur et des oreilles quientendent.
32 and they shall praise me in the land of their captivity, and shall invoke my name.	32 Ils me loueront au pays de leur exil, ils se souviendront de mon nom;
33 Then they shall turn back from their stiff-necked stubbornness, and from their evil deeds, because they shall remember the fate of their fathers who sinned against the LORD.	33 ils n'auront plus la nuque raide et se détourneront de leurs mauvaises actions, se rappelant le destinde leurs pères qui ont péché devant le Seigneur.
34 And I will bring them back to the land which with my oath I promised to their fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; and they shall rule it. I will make them increase; they shall not then diminish.	34 Alors je les ramènerai au pays que j'ai promis par serment à leurs pères Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, etils y seront maîtres. Je les multiplierai et ils ne seront plus diminués.
35 And I will establish for them, as an eternal covenant, that I will be their God, and they shall be my people; and I will not again remove my people Israel from the land I gave them.	35 Pour eux, j'établirai une alliance éternelle; je serai leur Dieu et ils seront mon peuple. Et je nerepousserai plus mon peuple Israël du pays que je leur ai donné."
