1 "And the LORD fulfilled the warning he had uttered against us: against our judges, who governed Israel, against our kings and princes, and against the men of Israel and Judah.	1 Le Seigneur a donc réalisé la parole qu’il avait dite contre nous, contre nos juges qui ont jugé Israël, contre nos rois, nos chefs et tous les gens d’Israël et de Juda.
2 He brought down upon us evils so great that there has not been done anywhere under heaven what has been done in Jerusalem, as was written in the law of Moses:	2 Jamais sous le ciel on n’a vu chose semblable à ce qui est arrivé à Jérusalem, cela même qui est écrit dans la Loi de Moïse.
3 that one after another of us should eat the flesh of his son or of his daughter.	3 Certains parmi nous en sont venus à manger la chair de leur fils ou de leur fille.
4 He has made us subject to all the kingdoms round about us, a reproach and a horror among all the nations round about to which the LORD has scattered us.	4 Le Seigneur les a livrés au pouvoir de tous les royaumes qui nous entourent; ils sont devenus un exemple de malédiction et de ruine pour les peuples d’alentour parmi lesquels il les a dispersés.
5 We are brought low, not raised up, because we sinned against the LORD, our God, not heeding his voice.	5 Nous avons été soumis au lieu de dominer, car nous avions péché contre le Seigneur notre Dieu et nous n’avions pas écouté sa voix.
6 "Justice is with the LORD, our God; and we, like our fathers, are flushed with shame even today.	6 Le Seigneur notre Dieu est juste, mais pour nous et nos pères, c’est la honte du visage qui nous convient en ce jour.
7 All the evils of which the LORD had warned us have come upon us:	7 Tous ces malheurs dont le Seigneur avait parlé sont tombés sur nous,
8 and we did not plead before the LORD, or turn, each from the figments of his evil heart.	8 et nous n’avons pas renoncé chacun aux pensées mauvaises de notre cœur pour apaiser la colère du Seigneur.
9 And the LORD kept watch over the evils, and brought them home to us; for the LORD is just in all the works he commanded us to do,	9 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur a prévu ces malheurs et les a fait venir sur nous, car le Seigneur est juste dans tout ce qu’il nous a commandé.
10 but we did not heed his voice, or follow the precepts of the LORD which he set before us.	10 Et nous, nous n’avons pas écouté sa voix, nous n’avons pas obéi aux commandements que le Seigneur avait placés devant nous.
11 "And now, LORD, God of Israel, you who led your people out of the land of Egypt with your mighty hand, with signs and wonders and great might, and with your upraised arm, so that you have made for yourself a name till the present day:	11 Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, tu as fait sortir ton peuple du pays d’Égypte à main forte, avec miracles, prodiges, faisant usage de ta puissance et frappant de grands coups. Tu t’y es rendu célèbre et tu l’es encore,
12 we have sinned, been impious, and violated, O LORD, our God, all your statutes.	12 mais nous, nous avons péché, nous avons commis le mal, nous avons pratiqué l’injustice, Seigneur notre Dieu, oubliant tous tes commandements.
13 Let your anger be withdrawn from us, for we are left few in number among the nations to which you scattered us.	13 Que ta colère se détourne de nous puisque nous ne sommes plus qu’un petit reste au milieu des nations où tu nous as dispersés.
14 Hear, O LORD, our prayer of supplication, and deliver us for your own sake: grant us favor in the presence of our captors,	14 Écoute Seigneur notre prière et notre supplication, délivre-nous pour l’honneur de ton nom, et fais-nous trouver grâce devant ceux qui nous ont déportés.
15 that the whole earth may know that you are the LORD, our God, and that Israel and his descendants bear your name.	15 Alors toute la terre saura que tu es le Seigneur notre Dieu, car ton nom a été invoqué sur Israël et sur sa descendance.
16 O LORD, look down from your holy dwelling and take thought of us; turn, O LORD, your ear to hear us.	16 Regarde Seigneur de ta Demeure sainte, pense à nous, prête l’oreille, écoute-nous.
17 Look directly at us, and behold: it is not the dead in the nether world, whose spirits have been taken from within them, who will give glory and vindication to the LORD.	17 Ouvre les yeux et regarde: ce ne sont pas les morts, couchés dans le monde d’en bas, qui rendront gloire et justice au Seigneur après que l’esprit a quitté leur corps,
18 He whose soul is deeply grieved, who walks bowed and feeble, with failing eyes and famished soul, will declare your glory and justice, LORD!	18 c’est le vivant, Seigneur, lui qui va courbé et sans force, accablé par son fardeau, les yeux affaiblis et le cœur angoissé.
19 "Not on the just deeds of our fathers and our kings do we base our plea for mercy in your sight, O LORD, our God.	19 Nous ne comptons pas sur les mérites de nos pères et de nos rois lorsque nous faisons monter cette prière vers toi, Seigneur notre Dieu;
20 You have brought your wrath and anger down upon us, as you had warned us through your servants the prophets:	20 car tu as envoyé sur nous ta colère et ta fureur comme tu l’avais annoncé par tes serviteurs les prophètes
21 'Thus says the LORD: Bend your shoulders to the service of the king of Babylon, that you may continue in the land I gave your fathers:	21 en ces termes: “Ainsi parle le Seigneur: inclinez-vous, servez le roi de Babylone et vous resterez dans le pays que j’ai donné à vos pères.
22 for if you do not hear the LORD'S voice so as to serve the king of Babylon,	22 Mais si vous n’écoutez pas la voix du Seigneur votre Dieu, si vous refusez de servir le roi de Babylone,
23 I will make to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem The sounds of joy and the sounds of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; And all the land shall be deserted, without inhabitants.'	23 je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et à Jérusalem, le chant de joie et le chant de fête, les chants du fiancé et de la fiancée, et tout le pays sera désert, privé d’habitants.”
24 But we did not heed your voice, or serve the king of Babylon, and you fulfilled the threats you had made through your servants the prophets, to have the bones of our kings and the bones of our fathers brought out from their burial places.	24 Mais nous n’avons pas écouté ton appel à servir le roi de Babylone, et tu as accompli ce que tu avais annoncé par tes serviteurs les prophètes: les ossements de nos rois, les ossements de nos pères ont été enlevés de leurs tombes.
25 And indeed, they lie exposed to the heat of day and the frost of night. They died in dire anguish, by hunger and the sword and plague.	25 Ils ont été jetés sur le sol exposés au soleil comme au froid de la nuit. Nos pères eux-mêmes sont morts dans de cruelles souffrances, par la faim, l’épée et la peste.
26 And you reduced the house which bears your name to what it is today, for the wickedness of the kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of Judah.	26 Tu as fait cette Maison qui porte ton nom ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui, à cause de la méchanceté de la maison d’Israël et de la maison de Juda.
27 "But with us, O Lord, our God, you have dealt in all your clemency and in all your great mercy.	27 Tu nous as traités, Seigneur notre Dieu, avec grande bonté et grande miséricorde,
28 This was your warning through your servant Moses, the day you ordered him to write down your law in the presence of the Israelites:	28 comme tu l’avais annoncé par le bouche de ton serviteur Moïse, le jour où tu lui as ordonné d’écrire ta Loi en présence des enfants d’Israël.
29 If you do not heed my voice, surely this great and numerous throng will dwindle away among the nations to which I will scatter them.	29 Tu leur avais dit: “Si vous n’écoutez pas ma voix, cette grande et vaste multitude sera réduite à un tout petit nombre parmi les nations où je les disperserai.
30 For I know they will not heed me, because they are a stiff-necked people. But in the land of their captivity they shall have a change of heart;	30 Oui, je sais bien qu’ils ne m’écouteront pas, car c’est un peuple à la tête dure, mais dans le pays où ils seront déportés, ils rentreront en eux-mêmes.
31 they shall know that I, the LORD, am their God. I will give them hearts, and heedful ears;	31 Alors ils sauront que je suis le Seigneur leur Dieu et je leur donnerai un cœur pour comprendre et des oreilles pour entendre.
32 and they shall praise me in the land of their captivity, and shall invoke my name.	32 Dans le pays de leur exil ils me loueront et se souviendront de mon nom.
33 Then they shall turn back from their stiff-necked stubbornness, and from their evil deeds, because they shall remember the fate of their fathers who sinned against the LORD.	33 Ils renonceront à leur tête dure et à leurs pensées mauvaises; ils se souviendront du sort de leurs pères qui ont péché devant le Seigneur.
34 And I will bring them back to the land which with my oath I promised to their fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; and they shall rule it. I will make them increase; they shall not then diminish.	34 Alors je les ramènerai dans le pays que j’ai promis par serment à Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, leurs pères; ils le posséderont, je ferai qu’ils s’y multiplient et ne diminuent plus.
35 And I will establish for them, as an eternal covenant, that I will be their God, and they shall be my people; and I will not again remove my people Israel from the land I gave them.	35 Je ferai avec eux une alliance éternelle, je serai leur Dieu et ils seront mon peuple et je ne chasserai plus mon peuple Israël du pays que je leur ai donné.”
