Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the army leaders, Johanan, son of Kareah, Azariah, son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, high and low, approached the prophet Jeremiah	1 Et accesserunt omnes princi pes bellatorum, scilicet Iohanan filiusCaree et Iezonias filius Osaiae et universum vulgus, a parvo usque ad magnum,
2 and said, "Grant our petition; pray for us to the LORD, your God, for all this remnant. We are now few who once were many, as you well see.	2 dixeruntque ad Ieremiam prophetam: “ Cadat oratio nostra in conspectu tuo, etora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum tuum pro universis reliquiis istis, quia derelictisumus pauci de pluribus, sicut oculi tui nos intuentur;
3 Let the LORD, your God, show us what way we should take and what we should do."	3 et annuntiet nobisDominus Deus tuus viam, per quam pergamus, et verbum, quod faciamus ”.
4 Very well! the prophet Jeremiah answered them: I will pray to the LORD, your God, as you desire; whatever the LORD answers you, I will tell you; I will withhold nothing from you.	4 Dixitautem ad eos Ieremias propheta: “ Audivi. Ecce ego oro ad Dominum Deum vestrumsecundum verba vestra; omne verbum, quodcumque responderit pro vobis, indicabovobis nec celabo vos quidquam ”.
5 And they said to Jeremiah, "May the LORD be our witness: we will truly and faithfully follow all the instructions the LORD, your God, will send us.	5 Et illi dixerunt ad Ieremiam: “ SitDominus inter nos testis verax et fidelis, si non iuxta omne verbum, in quomiserit te Dominus Deus tuus ad nos, sic faciemus.
6 Whether it is pleasant or difficult, we will obey the command of the LORD, our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us for obeying the command of the LORD, our God."	6 Sive bonum est sive malum,voci Domini Dei nostri, ad quem mittimus te, oboediemus, ut bene sit nobis, cumaudierimus vocem Domini Dei nostri ”.
7 Ten days passed before the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.	7 Cum autem completi essent decem dies, factum est verbum Domini ad Ieremiam;
8 Then he called Johanan, son of Kareah, his army leaders, and all the people, high and low,	8 vocavitque Iohanan filium Caree et omnes principes bellatorum, qui erant cum eo,et universum populum a minimo usque ad magnum
9 and said to them: Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to offer your prayer:	9 et dixit ad eos: “ Haec dicitDominus, Deus Israel, ad quem misistis me, ut prosternerem preces vestras inconspectu eius:
10 If you remain quietly in this land I will build you up, and not tear you down; I will plant you, not uproot you; for I regret the evil I have done you.	10 Si quiescentes manseritis in terra hac, aedificabo vos et nondestruam, plantabo et non evellam; iam enim placatus sum super malo, quod fecivobis.
11 Do not fear the king of Babylon, before whom you are now afraid; do not fear him, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, to rescue you from his power.	11 Nolite timere a facie regis Babylonis, quem vos pavidi formidatis;nolite metuere eum, dicit Dominus, quia vobiscum sum ego, ut salvos vos faciamet eruam de manu eius;
12 I will grant you mercy, so that he will be sorry for you and let you return to your land.	12 et dabo vobis, ut misericordiam inveniatis, et ipsemiserebitur vestri et habitare vos faciet in terra vestra.
13 But if you disobey the voice of the LORD, your God, and decide not to remain in this land,	13 Si autem dixeritis vos: “Non habitabimus in terra ista”, nec audieritisvocem Domini Dei vestri
14 saying, "No, we will go to Egypt, where we will see no more of war, hear the trumpet alarm no longer, nor hunger for bread; there we will live";	14 dicentes: “Nequaquam, sed ad terram Aegyptipergemus, ubi non videbimus bellum et clangorem tubae non audiemus et famem nonsustinebimus et ibi habitabimus”,
15 then listen to the word of the LORD, remnant of Judah: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you are determined to go to Egypt, when you arrive there to stay,	15 propter hoc nunc audite verbum Domini,reliquiae Iudae: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israel: Si posueritisfaciem vestram, ut ingrediamini Aegyptum, et intraveritis, ut ibi peregrinemini,
16 the sword you fear shall reach you in the land of Egypt; the hunger you dread shall cling to you no less in Egypt, and there you shall die.	16 gladius, quem vos formidatis, ibi comprehendet vos in terra Aegypti, etfames, pro qua estis solliciti, adhaerebit vobis in Aegypto, et ibi moriemini.
17 All those men who determine to go to Egypt to stay, shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence; not one shall survive or escape the evil that I will bring upon them.	17 Omnesque viri, qui posuerunt faciem suam, ut ingrediantur Aegyptum etperegrinentur ibi, morientur gladio et fame et peste: nullus de eis remanebitnec effugiet a facie mali, quod ego afferam super eos.
18 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Just as my furious anger was poured out upon the citizens of Jerusalem, so shall my anger be poured out on you when you reach Egypt. You shall become an example of malediction and horror, a curse and a reproach, and you shall never see this place again.	18 Quia haec dicitDominus exercituum, Deus Israel: Sicut effusus est furor meus et indignatio measuper habitatores Ierusalem, sic effundetur indignatio mea super vos, cumingressi fueritis Aegyptum, et eritis in exsecrationem et in stuporem et inmaledictum et in opprobrium et nequaquam ultra videbitis locum istum ”.
19 It is the LORD who has spoken to you, remnant of Judah; do not go to Egypt! You can never say that I did not warn you this day.	19 Verbum Domini super vos, reliquiae Iudae: “ Nolite intrare Aegyptum;scientes scietis quia obtestatus sum vos hodie,
20 At the cost of your lives you have deceived me, sending me to the LORD, your God, saying, "Pray for us to the LORD, our God; make known to us all that the LORD, our God, shall say, and we will do it."	20 quia decepistis animasvestras. Vos enim misistis me ad Dominum Deum nostrum dicentes: “Ora pro nobisad Dominum Deum nostrum et iuxta omnia, quaecumque dixerit tibi Dominus Deusnoster, sic annuntia nobis, et faciemus”.
21 Today I proclaim his message, but you obey the voice of the LORD, your God, in nothing that he has commissioned me to make known to you.	21 Et annuntiavi vobis hodie, et nonaudistis vocem Domini Dei vestri super universis, pro quibus misit me ad vos.
22 Have no doubt of this, you shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence in the place where you wish to go and settle.	22 Nunc ergo scientes scietis quia gladio et fame et peste moriemini in loco, adquem voluistis intrare et ibi peregrinari ”.
