NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
Then all the army leaders, Johanan, son of Kareah, Azariah, son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, high and low, approached the prophet Jeremiah1 ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου εν ημεραις ιωακιμ βασιλεως ιουδα λεγων
and said, "Grant our petition; pray for us to the LORD, your God, for all this remnant. We are now few who once were many, as you well see.2 βαδισον εις οικον αρχαβιν και αξεις αυτους εις οικον κυριου εις μιαν των αυλων και ποτιεις αυτους οινον
Let the LORD, your God, show us what way we should take and what we should do."3 και εξηγαγον τον ιεζονιαν υιον ιερεμιν υιου χαβασιν και τους αδελφους αυτου και τους υιους αυτου και πασαν την οικιαν αρχαβιν
Very well! the prophet Jeremiah answered them: I will pray to the LORD, your God, as you desire; whatever the LORD answers you, I will tell you; I will withhold nothing from you.4 και εισηγαγον αυτους εις οικον κυριου εις το παστοφοριον υιων ανανιου υιου γοδολιου ανθρωπου του θεου ο εστιν εγγυς του οικου των αρχοντων των επανω του οικου μαασαιου υιου σελωμ του φυλασσοντος την αυλην
And they said to Jeremiah, "May the LORD be our witness: we will truly and faithfully follow all the instructions the LORD, your God, will send us.5 και εδωκα κατα προσωπον αυτων κεραμιον οινου και ποτηρια και ειπα πιετε οινον
Whether it is pleasant or difficult, we will obey the command of the LORD, our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us for obeying the command of the LORD, our God."6 και ειπαν ου μη πιωμεν οινον οτι ιωναδαβ υιος ρηχαβ ο πατηρ ημων ενετειλατο ημιν λεγων ου μη πιητε οινον υμεις και οι υιοι υμων εως αιωνος
Ten days passed before the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.7 και οικιαν ου μη οικοδομησητε και σπερμα ου μη σπειρητε και αμπελων ουκ εσται υμιν οτι εν σκηναις οικησετε πασας τας ημερας υμων οπως αν ζησητε ημερας πολλας επι της γης εφ' ης διατριβετε υμεις επ' αυτης
Then he called Johanan, son of Kareah, his army leaders, and all the people, high and low,8 και ηκουσαμεν της φωνης ιωναδαβ του πατρος ημων προς το μη πιειν οινον πασας τας ημερας ημων ημεις και αι γυναικες ημων και οι υιοι ημων και αι θυγατερες ημων
and said to them: Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to offer your prayer:9 και προς το μη οικοδομειν οικιας του κατοικειν εκει και αμπελων και αγρος και σπερμα ουκ εγενετο ημιν
If you remain quietly in this land I will build you up, and not tear you down; I will plant you, not uproot you; for I regret the evil I have done you.10 και ωκησαμεν εν σκηναις και ηκουσαμεν και εποιησαμεν κατα παντα α ενετειλατο ημιν ιωναδαβ ο πατηρ ημων
Do not fear the king of Babylon, before whom you are now afraid; do not fear him, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, to rescue you from his power.11 και εγενηθη οτε ανεβη ναβουχοδονοσορ επι την γην και ειπαμεν εισελθατε και εισελθωμεν εις ιερουσαλημ απο προσωπου της δυναμεως των χαλδαιων και απο προσωπου της δυναμεως των ασσυριων και ωκουμεν εκει
I will grant you mercy, so that he will be sorry for you and let you return to your land.12 και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς με λεγων
But if you disobey the voice of the LORD, your God, and decide not to remain in this land,13 ουτως λεγει κυριος πορευου και ειπον ανθρωπω ιουδα και τοις κατοικουσιν ιερουσαλημ ου μη λαβητε παιδειαν του ακουειν τους λογους μου
saying, "No, we will go to Egypt, where we will see no more of war, hear the trumpet alarm no longer, nor hunger for bread; there we will live";14 εστησαν ρημα υιοι ιωναδαβ υιου ρηχαβ ο ενετειλατο τοις τεκνοις αυτου προς το μη πιειν οινον και ουκ επιοσαν και εγω ελαλησα προς υμας ορθρου και ελαλησα και ουκ ηκουσατε
then listen to the word of the LORD, remnant of Judah: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you are determined to go to Egypt, when you arrive there to stay,15 και απεστειλα προς υμας τους παιδας μου τους προφητας λεγων αποστραφητε εκαστος απο της οδου αυτου της πονηρας και βελτιω ποιησατε τα επιτηδευματα υμων και ου πορευσεσθε οπισω θεων ετερων του δουλευειν αυτοις και οικησετε επι της γης ης εδωκα υμιν και τοις πατρασιν υμων και ουκ εκλινατε τα ωτα υμων και ουκ ηκουσατε
the sword you fear shall reach you in the land of Egypt; the hunger you dread shall cling to you no less in Egypt, and there you shall die.16 και εστησαν υιοι ιωναδαβ υιου ρηχαβ την εντολην του πατρος αυτων ο δε λαος ουτος ουκ ηκουσαν μου
All those men who determine to go to Egypt to stay, shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence; not one shall survive or escape the evil that I will bring upon them.17 δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος ιδου εγω φερω επι ιουδαν και επι τους κατοικουντας ιερουσαλημ παντα τα κακα α ελαλησα επ' αυτους
For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Just as my furious anger was poured out upon the citizens of Jerusalem, so shall my anger be poured out on you when you reach Egypt. You shall become an example of malediction and horror, a curse and a reproach, and you shall never see this place again.18 δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος επειδη ηκουσαν υιοι ιωναδαβ υιου ρηχαβ την εντολην του πατρος αυτων ποιειν καθοτι ενετειλατο αυτοις ο πατηρ αυτων
It is the LORD who has spoken to you, remnant of Judah; do not go to Egypt! You can never say that I did not warn you this day.19 ου μη εκλιπη ανηρ των υιων ιωναδαβ υιου ρηχαβ παρεστηκως κατα προσωπον μου πασας τας ημερας της γης
At the cost of your lives you have deceived me, sending me to the LORD, your God, saying, "Pray for us to the LORD, our God; make known to us all that the LORD, our God, shall say, and we will do it."
Today I proclaim his message, but you obey the voice of the LORD, your God, in nothing that he has commissioned me to make known to you.
Have no doubt of this, you shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence in the place where you wish to go and settle.
