Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the army leaders, Johanan, son of Kareah, Azariah, son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, high and low, approached the prophet Jeremiah	1 E TUTTI i capi della gente di guerra, e Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e Iezania, figliuolo di Osaia, e tutto il popolo, dal minore al maggiore, si accostarono;
2 and said, "Grant our petition; pray for us to the LORD, your God, for all this remnant. We are now few who once were many, as you well see.	2 e dissero al profeta Geremia: Deh! caggia la nostra supplicazione nel tuo cospetto, e fa’ orazione al Signore Iddio tuo per noi, per tutto questo rimanente perciocchè di molti siamo rimasti pochi, come i tuoi occhi ci veggono,
3 Let the LORD, your God, show us what way we should take and what we should do."	3 acciocchè il Signore Iddio tuo ci dichiari la via, per la quale abbiamo da camminare, e ciò che abbiamo a fare.
4 Very well! the prophet Jeremiah answered them: I will pray to the LORD, your God, as you desire; whatever the LORD answers you, I will tell you; I will withhold nothing from you.	4 E il profeta Geremia disse loro: Ho inteso; ecco, io farò orazione al Signore Iddio vostro, come avete detto; ed io vi rapporterò tutto ciò che il Signore vi avrà risposto; io non ve ne celerò nulla.
5 And they said to Jeremiah, "May the LORD be our witness: we will truly and faithfully follow all the instructions the LORD, your God, will send us.	5 Ed essi dissero a Geremia: Il Signore sia per testimonio verace e fedele tra noi, se noi non facciamo secondo tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio tuo ti avrà mandato a dirci.
6 Whether it is pleasant or difficult, we will obey the command of the LORD, our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us for obeying the command of the LORD, our God."	6 O bene, o mal che sia, noi ubbidiremo alla voce del Signore Iddio nostro, al quale noi ti mandiamo; acciocchè bene ne avvenga, quando avremo ubbidito alla voce del Signore Iddio nostro
7 Ten days passed before the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.	7 Ed avvenne, in capo di dieci giorni, che la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Geremia.
8 Then he called Johanan, son of Kareah, his army leaders, and all the people, high and low,	8 Ed egli chiamò Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e tutti i capi della gente di guerra, ch’erano con lui, e tutto il popolo, dal minore al maggiore.
9 and said to them: Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to offer your prayer:	9 E disse loro: Così ha detto il Signore, l’Iddio d’Israele, al quale voi mi avete mandato, per presentargli la vostra supplicazione:
10 If you remain quietly in this land I will build you up, and not tear you down; I will plant you, not uproot you; for I regret the evil I have done you.	10 Se pur voi dimorate in questo paese, io vi edificherò, e non vi distruggerò; io vi pianterò, e non vi divellerò; perciocchè io mi pento del male che vi ho fatto.
11 Do not fear the king of Babylon, before whom you are now afraid; do not fear him, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, to rescue you from his power.	11 Non temiate del re di Babilonia, di cui voi avete paura; non temiate di lui, dice il Signore; perciocchè io sono con voi, per salvarvi, e per liberarvi dalla sua mano.
12 I will grant you mercy, so that he will be sorry for you and let you return to your land.	12 E vi farò trovar misericordia, ed egli avrà pietà di voi, e vi rimetterà nel vostro paese.
13 But if you disobey the voice of the LORD, your God, and decide not to remain in this land,	13 Ma se voi dite: Noi non dimoreremo in questo paese, non ubbidendo alla voce del Signore Iddio vostro, dicendo:
14 saying, "No, we will go to Egypt, where we will see no more of war, hear the trumpet alarm no longer, nor hunger for bread; there we will live";	14 No; anzi entreremo nel paese di Egitto, acciocchè non veggiamo la guerra, e non udiamo il suon della tromba, e non sofferiamo fame, per mancamento di pane, e quivi abiteremo;
15 then listen to the word of the LORD, remnant of Judah: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you are determined to go to Egypt, when you arrive there to stay,	15 ascoltate ora sopra ciò la parola del Signore, o rimanente di Giuda. Così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Se pur voi rivolgete la faccia per entrare in Egitto, e vi entrate per dimorarvi;
16 the sword you fear shall reach you in the land of Egypt; the hunger you dread shall cling to you no less in Egypt, and there you shall die.	16 egli avverrà, che la spada della quale temete, vi aggiugnerà là nel paese di Egitto; e parimente la fame, della quale voi avete paura, vi starà attaccata dietro là in Egitto; e quivi morrete.
17 All those men who determine to go to Egypt to stay, shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence; not one shall survive or escape the evil that I will bring upon them.	17 E tutti gli uomini, che avran volta la faccia per entrare in Egitto, per dimorarvi, vi morranno di spada, di fame, e di pestilenza; niuno di loro scamperà, o si salverà dal male che io fo venir sopra loro.
18 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Just as my furious anger was poured out upon the citizens of Jerusalem, so shall my anger be poured out on you when you reach Egypt. You shall become an example of malediction and horror, a curse and a reproach, and you shall never see this place again.	18 Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Siccome la mia ira, e il mio cruccio, si è versato sopra gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così si verserà la mia ira sopra voi, quando sarete entrati in Egitto; e sarete in esecrazione, e in istupore, e in maledizione, e in vituperio; e giammai più non vedrete questo luogo.
19 It is the LORD who has spoken to you, remnant of Judah; do not go to Egypt! You can never say that I did not warn you this day.	19 O rimanente di Giuda, il Signore parla a voi: Non entrate in Egitto; sappiate pure che io ve lo protesto oggi.
20 At the cost of your lives you have deceived me, sending me to the LORD, your God, saying, "Pray for us to the LORD, our God; make known to us all that the LORD, our God, shall say, and we will do it."	20 Conciossiachè voi mi abiate ingannato contro alle vostre proprie anime, quando mi avete mandato al Signore Iddio vostro, dicendo: Fa’ orazione al Signore Iddio nostro per noi; e secondo tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio nostro dirà, fanne la relazione, e noi lo metteremo ad effetto.
21 Today I proclaim his message, but you obey the voice of the LORD, your God, in nothing that he has commissioned me to make known to you.	21 Ed oggi io ve l’ho dichiarato; ma voi non avete ubbidito alla voce del Signore Iddio vostro, nè a cosa alcuna, che egli abbia mandato a dirvi.
22 Have no doubt of this, you shall die by the sword, famine, and pestilence in the place where you wish to go and settle.	22 Ora dunque, sappiate pure, che voi morrete di spada, di fame, e di pestilenza, nel luogo dove vi piace di entrare, per dimorarvi
