Sirach 36

1 Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!	1 Salvaci, o Dio di tutti,
2 Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.	2 e poni il tuo timore su tutte le genti;
3 As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.	3 alza la mano contro i popoli stranieri affinché vedano la tua potenza.
4 Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.	4 Come ai loro occhi ti sei dimostrato santo in mezzo a noi, così mostra, ai nostri occhi, la tua gloria con essi:
5 Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;	5 perché sappiano, come lo sappiamo noi, che non c'è Dio fuori di te.
6 Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.	6 Opera di nuovo cose mirabili e ripeti i prodigi,
7 Hasten the day, bring on the time;	7 rafforza la mano e fortifica il braccio destro:
8 Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.	8 sveglia l’ira e spandi il furore;

10 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,	10 Accelera la fine e stabilisci il tempo,

12 Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.	12 Calpesta il capo dei principi nemici che dicono: «Non c’è nessuno fuori di noi».
13 Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.	13 Raccogli tutte le tribù di Giacobbe affinché prendano possesso come nei tempi antichi.
14 Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,	14 Abbi pietà, Signore, del tuo popolo che è chiamato con il tuo nome, di Israele, che hai considerato uguale al primogenito.
15 Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.	15 Abbi misericordia della città del tuo santuario, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.

20 A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.	20 La gola inghiotte ogni cibo; ma c’è cibo più appetitoso di un altro.
21 Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:	21 Il pasto distingue la carne selvatica; il cuore assennato i discorsi menzogneri.
22 A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;	22 Il cuore perverso causa tristezza; l’uomo sagace gli rende il paio.
23 And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.	23 La donna accoglie qualunque maschio; ma c’è una donna migliore di un’altra.
24 A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.	24 La bellezza della donna allieta il volto e supera ogni desiderio degli occhi:
25 A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.	25 se si aggiungono la bontà e la dolcezza, suo marito non sarà meno dei figli dell’uomo.
