1 If you are chosen to preside at dinner, be not puffed up, but with the guests be as one of themselves; Take care of them first before you sit down;	1 Se' tu fatto capo? non insuperbirti: sii tra di loro, come uno di loro.
2 when you have fulfilled your duty, then take your place, To share in their joy and win praise for your hospitality.	2 Abbi cura di essi, e dopo che avrai pienamente soddisfatto all'ufficio tuo, va a metterti a tavola;
3 Being older, you may talk; that is only your right, but temper your wisdom, not to disturb the singing.	3 Affinchè eglino siano a te di allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento tu riceva la corona, e ne ottenga l'onore delle porzioni messe a parte per te.
4 When wine is present, do not pour out discourse, and flaunt not your wisdom at the wrong time.	4 Tu maggiore di età, cui si conviene di essere il primo a parlare, parla
5 Like a seal of carnelian in a setting of gold is a concert when wine is served.	5 Con iscelta dottrina, e non disturbare l'armonia.
6 Like a gold mounting with an emerald seal is string music with delicious wine.	6 Dove non è chi ascolti, non buttar via le parole, e non volere a mal tempo far pompa di tua saggezza.
7 Young man, speak only when necessary, when they have asked you more than once;	7 Un concerto di musica in un convito, dove si beve, è come un prezioso carbonchio legato in oro.
8 Be brief, but say much in those few words, be like the wise man, taciturn.	8 L'armonia de' cantori col giocondo, e moderato bere, è come uno smeraldo incastrato in anello di oro.
9 When among your elders be not forward, and with officials be not too insistent.	9 Ascolta in silenzio, e colla tua ritenutezza ti concilierai amore.
10 Like the lightning that flashes before a storm is the esteem that shines on modesty.	10 Giovinetto parla al bisogno a mala pena.
11 When it is time to leave, tarry not; be off for home! There take your ease,	11 Interrogato due volte, ristrìngi in poco la tua risposta.
12 And there enjoy doing as you wish, but without sin or words of pride.	12 In molte cose diportati come ignorante, e ascolta tacendo, e domandando.
13 Above all, give praise to your Creator, who showers his favors upon you.	13 In mezzo ai grandi non ti azzardare, e dove sono vecchj, non parlar molto.
14 He who would find God must accept discipline; he who seeks him obtains his request.	14 La grandine è preceduta dal lampo, e la verecondia è preceduta dalla buona grazia, e la tua ritenutezza farà, che tu sii ben veduto.
15 He who studies the law masters it, but the hypocrite finds it a trap.	15 E quando è tempo di alzarti, non istare a bada: vattene il primo a tua casa, ed ivi divertiti, e scherza,
16 His judgment is sound who fears the LORD; out of obscurity he draws forth a clear plan.	16 E fa quel, che ti piace, ma senza peccare, o parlar con superbia.
17 The sinner turns aside reproof and distorts the law to suit his purpose.	17 E dopo tutto questo benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto, e ti inebria con tutti i suoi beni.
18 The thoughtful man will not neglect direction; the proud and insolent man is deterred by nothing.	18 Chi teme il Signore, abbraccerà gli insegnamenti di lui; e quelli, che di buon mattino lo cercano, troveranno benedizione.
19 Do nothing without counsel, and then you need have no regrets.	19 Chi ama la legge, da lei sarà fatto ricco: ma chi opera con finzione, prenderà da lei occasione di inciampo.
20 Go not on a way that is set with snares, and let not the same thing trip you twice.	20 Quelli, che temono il Signore, sapran far giudizio di quello, che è giusto, e la loro giustizia sarà quasi accesa face.
21 Be not too sure even of smooth roads,	21 L'uom peccatore fugge la riprensione, e trova de' paragoni secondo la sua volontà.
22 be careful on all your paths.	22 L'uomo, che ha prudenza, non trascura di ben riflettere: l'uomo, che non ne ha, e il superbo non teme mai nulla;
23 Whatever you do, be on your guard, for in this way you will keep the commandments.	23 Anche dopo aver operato da se, senza consiglio; ma le sue stesse intra prese il condanneranno.
24 He who keeps the law preserves himself; and he who trusts in the LORD shall not be put to shame.	24 Figliuolo, non far cosa veruna senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirti dopo il fatto.
	25 Non camminare per istrade rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi, e non ti impegnare in una strada faticosa per non esporre alle cadale l'anima tua:
	26 Guardati anche da' propri figliuoli, e pon mente alla gente di tua casa.
	27 In ogni opra tua segni la fede dell'anima tua, perché in questo sta l'osservanza de' comandamenti.
	28 Chi è fedele a Dio, è intento a' suoi comandamenti; e chi confida in lui, non iscapiterà.
