1 My son, when you come to serve the LORD, prepare yourself for trials.	1 Мій сину, як приступаєш служити Господеві, приготуй свою душу на спокуси.
2 Be sincere of heart and steadfast, undisturbed in time of adversity.	2 Будь серцем праведний і постійний, а в нещасті — не бентежся.
3 Cling to him, forsake him not; thus will your future be great.	3 Пристань до нього, не відступайся, щоб звеличився ти наостанку.
4 Accept whatever befalls you, in crushing misfortune be patient;	4 Все прийми, що тебе лиш спіткає, і, пониженим бувши, всі зміни стерпи.
5 For in fire gold is tested, and worthy men in the crucible of humiliation.	5 Бо золоту проба — вогонь, а бездоганному — горно пониження,
6 Trust God and he will help you; make straight your ways and hope in him.	6 Вір йому, і він за тебе заступиться; спрямуй на благо свою путь і надійся на нього.
7 You who fear the LORD, wait for his mercy, turn not away lest you fall.	7 Ви, що страхаєтеся Господа, чекайте на його милосердя і не схиблюйте, щоб вам не впасти.
8 You who fear the LORD, trust him, and your reward will not be lost.	8 Ви, що страхаєтеся Господа, вірте йому, і нагорода ваша не пропаде.
9 You who fear the LORD, hope for good things, for lasting joy and mercy.	9 Ви, що страхаєтеся Господа, надійтесь на благо, на вічне раювання й на милосердя.
10 Study the generations long past and understand; has anyone hoped in the LORD and been disappointed? Has anyone persevered in his fear and been forsaken? has anyone called upon him and been rebuffed?	10 Гляньте на днедавні покоління, подивітеся: чи зазнав хтось ганьби, довірявши Господеві? Чи був хтось полишений, страхавшись його? Чи, взивавши до нього, був хтось від нього погорджений?
11 Compassionate and merciful is the LORD; he forgives sins, he saves in time of trouble.	11 Господь бо співчутливий і милосердний, він відпускає гріхи й спасає в скорботі.
12 Woe to craven hearts and drooping hands, to the sinner who treads a double path!	12 Горе серцям боязливим та рукам охлялим, та й грішникові, який двома стежками ходить.
13 Woe to the faint of heart who trust not, who therefore will have no shelter!	13 Горе серцю байдужому, бо, не мавши віри, буде воно беззахисне.
14 Woe to you who have lost hope! what will you do at the visitation of the LORD?	14 Горе вам, у яких терпець увірвався: що чинитимете, коли то Господь навідається?
15 Those who fear the LORD disobey not his words; those who love him keep his ways.	15 Ті, що Господа страхаються, не будуть нечуйні до слів його, і ті, що його люблять, пильнуватимуть путі його.
16 Those who fear the LORD seek to please him, those who love him are filled with his law.	16 Ті, що Господа страхаються, шукатимуть його ласки, і ті, що його люблять, наситяться його законом.
17 Those who fear the LORD prepare their hearts and humble themselves before him.	17 Ті, що Господа страхаються, напоготують серця свої і смирять перед ним свої душі.
18 Let us fall into the hands of the LORD and not into the hands of men, For equal to his majesty is the mercy that he shows.	18 Киньмося в Господні руки, а не в руки людськії, бо яка його велич, таке й його милосердя.
