Ecclesiastes/Qohelet 6

1 There is another evil which I have seen under the sun, and it weighs heavily upon man:	1 C'è un altro male che ho visto sotto il sole e che grave pesa sull'uomo.
2 there is the man to whom God gives riches and property and honor, so that he lacks none of all the things he craves; yet God does not grant him power to partake of them, but a stranger devours them. This is vanity and a dire plague.	2 E' il caso di quello cui Dio concede ricchezze in abbondanza e onori, senza che gli manchi nulla di tutto ciò che può desiderare, ma al quale Dio non ha concesso di poter godere dei suoi beni, perché se li gode un uomo estraneo. Questo è vanità e un brutto guaio.
3 Should a man have a hundred children and live many years, no matter to what great age, still if he has not the full benefit of his goods, or if he is deprived of burial, of this man I proclaim that the child born dead is more fortunate than he.	3 Anche se quest'uomo generasse cento figli, vivesse molti anni e grande fosse il numero dei giorni della sua vita, se egli non trova soddisfazione nei beni che possiede e per di più non ha nemmeno una tomba, io dico più fortunato di lui l'aborto,
4 Though it came in vain and goes into darkness and its name is enveloped in darkness;	4 perché viene nella nebbia e se ne va nella tenebra; di tenebra è coperto il suo essere.
5 though it has not seen or known the sun, yet the dead child is at rest rather than such a man.	5 Per quanto non abbia visto né conosciuto il sole, tuttavia la sua sorte resta sempre migliore dell'altra.
6 Should he live twice a thousand years and not enjoy his goods, do not both go to the same place?	6 E se anche potesse vivere due volte mille anni senza però poter godere dei beni, non va a finire nello stesso luogo dell'aborto?
7 All man's toil is for his mouth, yet his desire is not fulfilled.	7 Tutta la fatica dell'uomo è per la sua bocca, eppure il suo desiderio non si sazia mai.
8 For what advantage has the wise man over the fool, or what advantage has the poor man in knowing how to conduct himself in life?	8 E allora che vantaggio ha il sapiente sullo stolto? Che serve al poveraccio sapersi destreggiare nella vita?
9 "What the eyes see is better than what the desires wander after." This also is vanity and a chase after wind.	9 Meglio vedere con gli occhi che vagare con la fantasia. Anche questo è vanità e occupazione senza senso.
10 Whatever is, was long ago given its name, and the nature of man is known, and that he cannot contend in judgment with one who is stronger than he.	10 Ciò che è, già ha avuto la sua sorte; che cosa è ogni individuo, già è stato conosciuto. Egli non può contendere con chi è più forte di lui.
11 For though there are many sayings that multiply vanity, what profit is there for a man?	11 Infatti, moltiplicando le parole, si ottiene solo di aumentare la vanità, e l'uomo che vantaggio ne trae?
12 For who knows what is good for a man in life, the limited days of his vain life (which God has made like a shadow)? Because-who is there to tell a man what will come after him under the sun?	12 E chi sa che cosa è bene per l'uomo nella sua vita, nei giorni contati della sua vita vana, che l'uomo passa come un'ombra? Chi dirà all'uomo che cosa avverrà in futuro sotto il sole?
