1 Be not hasty in your utterance and let not your heart be quick to make a promise in God's presence. God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.	1 Non essere precipitoso con la bocca e il tuo cuore non si affretti a proferir parola davanti a Dio, perché Dio è in cielo e tu sei sulla terra; perciò le tue parole siano parche, poiché
2 For nightmares come with many cares, and a fool's utterance with many words.	2 Dalle molte preoccupazioni vengono i sogni e dalle molte chiacchiere il discorso dello stolto.
3 When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed.	3 Quando hai fatto un voto a Dio, non indugiare a soddisfarlo, perché egli non ama gli stolti: adempi quello che hai promesso.
4 You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it.	4 È meglio non far voti, che farli e poi non mantenerli.
5 Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before his representative, "It was a mistake," lest God be angered by such words and destroy the works of your hands.	5 Non permettere alla tua bocca di renderti colpevole e non dire davanti al messaggero che è stata una inavvertenza, perché Dio non abbia ad adirarsi per le tue parole e distrugga il lavoro delle tue mani.
6 Rather, fear God!	6 Poiché dai molti sogni provengono molte delusioni e molte parole. Abbi dunque il timor di Dio.
7 If you see oppression of the poor, and violation of rights and justice in the realm, do not be shocked by the fact, for the high official has another higher than he watching him and above these are others higher still--.	7 Se vedi nella provincia il povero oppresso e il diritto e la giustizia calpestati, non ti meravigliare di questo, poiché sopra un'autorità veglia un'altra superiore e sopra di loro un'altra ancora più alta:
8 Yet an advantage for a country in every respect is a king for the arable land.	8 l'interesse del paese in ogni cosa è un re che si occupa dei campi.
9 The covetous man is never satisfied with money, and the lover of wealth reaps no fruit from it; so this too is vanity.	9 Chi ama il denaro, mai si sazia di denaro e chi ama la ricchezza, non ne trae profitto. Anche questo è vanità.
10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to devour them. Of what use are they to the owner except to feast his eyes upon?	10 Con il crescere dei beni i parassiti aumentano e qual vantaggio ne riceve il padrone, se non di vederli con gli occhi?
11 Sleep is sweet to the laboring man, whether he eats little or much, but the rich man's abundance allows him no sleep.	11 Dolce è il sonno del lavoratore, poco o molto che mangi; ma la sazietà del ricco non lo lascia dormire.
12 This is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches kept by their owner to his hurt.	12 Un altro brutto malanno ho visto sotto il sole: ricchezze custodite dal padrone a proprio danno.
13 Should the riches be lost through some misfortune, he may have a son when he is without means.	13 Se ne vanno in fumo queste ricchezze per un cattivo affare e il figlio che gli è nato non ha nulla nelle mani.
14 As he came forth from his mother's womb, so again shall he depart, naked as he came, having nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.	14 Come è uscito nudo dal grembo di sua madre, così se ne andrà di nuovo come era venuto, e dalle sue fatiche non ricaverà nulla da portar con sé.
15 This too is a grievous evil, that he goes just as he came. What then does it profit him to toil for wind?	15 Anche questo è un brutto malanno: che se ne vada proprio come è venuto. Qual vantaggio ricava dall'aver gettato le sue fatiche al vento?
16 All the days of his life are passed in gloom and sorrow, under great vexation, sickness and wrath.	16 Inoltre avrà passato tutti i suoi giorni nell'oscurità e nel pianto fra molti guai, malanni e crucci.
17 Here is what I recognize as good: it is well for a man to eat and drink and enjoy all the fruits of his labor under the sun during the limited days of the life which God gives him; for this is his lot.	17 Ecco quello che ho concluso: è meglio mangiare e bere e godere dei beni in ogni fatica durata sotto il sole, nei pochi giorni di vita che Dio gli dà: è questa la sua sorte.
18 Any man to whom God gives riches and property, and grants power to partake of them, so that he receives his lot and finds joy in the fruits of his toil, has a gift from God.	18 Ogni uomo, a cui Dio concede ricchezze e beni, ha anche facoltà di goderli e prendersene la sua parte e di godere delle sue fatiche: anche questo è dono di Dio.
19 For he will hardly dwell on the shortness of his life, because God lets him busy himself with the joy of his heart.	19 Egli non penserà infatti molto ai giorni della sua vita, poiché Dio lo tiene occupato con la gioia del suo cuore.
