1 Be not hasty in your utterance and let not your heart be quick to make a promise in God's presence. God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.	1 No te precipites a hablar, ni tu corazón se apresure a pronunciar una palabra ante Dios. Pues Dios está en el cielo, pero tú en la tierra: sean por tanto pocas tus palabras.
2 For nightmares come with many cares, and a fool's utterance with many words.	2 Porque, los sueños vienen de las muchas tareas. la voz necia, de las muchas palabras.
3 When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed.	3 Si haces voto a Dios, no tardes en cumplirlo; pues no le agradan los necios. El voto que has hecho, cúmplelo.
4 You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it.	4 Es mejor no hacer votos que hacerlos y no cumplirlos.
5 Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before his representative, "It was a mistake," lest God be angered by such words and destroy the works of your hands.	5 No permitas que tu boca haga de ti un pecador, y luego digas ante el Mensajero que fue inadvertencia. ¿Por qué deberá Dios irritarse por tu palabra y destruir la obra de tus manos?
6 Rather, fear God!	6 Cuantos los sueños, tantas las vanidades y las muchas palabras. Pero tú teme a Dios.
7 If you see oppression of the poor, and violation of rights and justice in the realm, do not be shocked by the fact, for the high official has another higher than he watching him and above these are others higher still--.	7 Si en la región ves la opresión del pobre y la violación del derecho y de la justicia, no te asombres por eso. Se te dirá que una dignidad vigila sobre otra dignidad, y otra más dignas sobre ambas.
8 Yet an advantage for a country in every respect is a king for the arable land.	8 Se invocará el interés común y el servicio del rey.
9 The covetous man is never satisfied with money, and the lover of wealth reaps no fruit from it; so this too is vanity.	9 Quien ama el dinero, no se harta de él, y para quien ama riquezas, no bastas ganancias. También esto es vanidad.
10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to devour them. Of what use are they to the owner except to feast his eyes upon?	10 A muchos bienes, muchos que los devoren; y ¿de qué más sirven a su dueño que de espectáculo para sus ojos?
11 Sleep is sweet to the laboring man, whether he eats little or much, but the rich man's abundance allows him no sleep.	11 Dulce el sueño del obrero, coma poco o coma mucho; pero al rico la hartura no le deja dormir.
12 This is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches kept by their owner to his hurt.	12 Hay un grave mal que yo he visto bajo el sol: riqueza guardada para su dueño, y que solo sirve para su mal,
13 Should the riches be lost through some misfortune, he may have a son when he is without means.	13 pues las riquezas perecen en un mal negocio, y cuando engendra un hijo, nada queda ya en su mano.
14 As he came forth from his mother's womb, so again shall he depart, naked as he came, having nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.	14 Como salió del vientre de su madre, desnudo volverá, como ha venido; y nada podrá sacar de sus fatigas que pueda llevar en la mano.
15 This too is a grievous evil, that he goes just as he came. What then does it profit him to toil for wind?	15 También esto es grave mal: que tal como vino, se vaya; y ¿de qué le vale el fatigarse para el viento?
16 All the days of his life are passed in gloom and sorrow, under great vexation, sickness and wrath.	16 Todos los días pasa en oscuridad, pena, fastidio, enfermedad y rabia.
17 Here is what I recognize as good: it is well for a man to eat and drink and enjoy all the fruits of his labor under the sun during the limited days of the life which God gives him; for this is his lot.	17 Esto he experimentado: lo mejor para el hombre es comer, beber y disfrutar en todos sus fatigosos afanes bajo el sol, en los contados días de la vida que Dios le da; porque esta es su paga.
18 Any man to whom God gives riches and property, and grants power to partake of them, so that he receives his lot and finds joy in the fruits of his toil, has a gift from God.	18 Y además: cuando a cualquier hombre Dios da riquezas y tesoros, le deja disfrutar de ellos, tomar su paga y holgarse en medio de sus fatigas, esto es un don de Dios.
19 For he will hardly dwell on the shortness of his life, because God lets him busy himself with the joy of his heart.	19 Porque así no recuerda mucho los días de su vida, mientras Dios le llena de alegría el corazón.
