NEW AMERICAN BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
A song of ascents. To you I raise my eyes, to you enthroned in heaven.1 [Song of Ascents] I lift up my eyes to you who are enthroned in heaven.
Yes, like the eyes of a servant on the hand of his master, Like the eyes of a maid on the hand of her mistress, So our eyes are on the LORD our God, till we are shown favor.2 Just as the eyes of slaves are on their masters' hand, or the eyes of a slave-girl on the hand of hermistress, so our eyes are on Yahweh our God, for him to take pity on us.
Show us favor, LORD, show us favor, for we have our fill of contempt.3 Have pity on us, Yahweh, have pity, for we have had our full share of scorn,
We have our fill of insult from the insolent, of disdain from the arrogant.4 more than our share of jeers from the complacent. (Scorn is for the proud.)
