NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
Then he made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high.1 Fecit quoque altare æneum viginti cubitorum longitudinis, et viginti cubitorum latitudinis, et decem cubitorum altitudinis.
He also made the molten sea. It was perfectly round, ten cubits in diameter, five in depth, and thirty in circumference;2 Mare etiam fusile decem cubitis a labio usque ad labium, rotundum per circuitum : quinque cubitos habebat altitudinis, et funiculus triginta cubitorum ambiebat gyrum ejus.
below the rim a ring of figures of oxen encircled the sea, ten to the cubit, all the way around; there were two rows of these cast in the same mold with the sea.3 Similitudo quoque boum erat subter illud, et decem cubitis quædam extrinsecus cælaturæ, quasi duobus versibus alvum maris circuibant. Boves autem erant fusiles :
It rested on twelve oxen, three facing north, three west, three south, and three east, with their haunches all toward the center; the sea rested on their backs.4 et ipsum mare super duodecim boves impositum erat, quorum tres respiciebant ad aquilonem, et alii tres ad occidentem : porro tres alii meridiem, et tres qui reliqui erant, orientem, habentes mare superpositum : posteriora autem boum erant intrinsecus sub mari.
It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like that of a cup, being lily-shaped. It had a capacity of three thousand measures.5 Porro vastitas ejus habebat mensuram palmi, et labium illius erat quasi labium calicis, vel repandi lilii : capiebatque tria millia metretas.
Then he made ten basins for washing, placing five of them to the right and five to the left. Here were cleansed the victims for the holocausts; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.6 Fecit quoque conchas decem : et posuit quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris, ut lavarent in eis omnia quæ in holocaustum oblaturi erant : porro in mari sacerdotes lavabantur.
He made the lampstands of gold, ten of them as was prescribed, and placed them in the nave, five to the right and five to the left.7 Fecit autem et candelabra aurea decem secundum speciem qua jussa erant fieri : et posuit ea in templo, quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris.
He made ten tables and had them set in the nave, five to the right and five to the left; and he made a hundred golden bowls.8 Necnon et mensas decem : et posuit eas in templo, quinque a dextris, et quinque a sinistris : phialas quoque aureas centum.
He made the court of the priests and the great courtyard and the gates of the courtyard; the gates he overlaid with bronze.9 Fecit etiam atrium sacerdotum, et basilicam grandem : et ostia in basilica, quæ texit ære.
The sea was placed off to the southeast from the right side of the temple.10 Porro mare posuit in latere dextro contra orientem ad meridiem.
Huram also made the pots, the shovels and the bowls. Huram thus completed the work he had to do for King Solomon in the house of God:11 Fecit autem Hiram lebetes, et creagras, et phialas : et complevit omne opus regis in domo Dei :
two columns, two nodes for the capitals topping these two columns, and two networks covering the nodes of the capitals topping the columns;12 hoc est, columnas duas, et epistylia, et capita, et quasi quædam retiacula, quæ capita tegerent super epistylia.
also four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, with two rows of pomegranates to each network, to cover the two nodes of the capitals topping the columns.13 Malogranata quoque quadringenta, et retiacula duo ita ut bini ordines malogranatorum singulis retiaculis jungerentur, quæ protegerent epistylia, et capita columnarum.
He made the stands, and the basins on the stands;14 Bases etiam fecit, et conchas, quas superposuit basibus :
one sea, and the twelve oxen under it;15 mare unum, boves quoque duodecim sub mari,
likewise the pots, the shovels and the forks. Huram-abi made all these articles for King Solomon from polished bronze for the house of the LORD.16 et lebetes, et creagras, et phialas. Omnia vasa fecit Salomoni Hiram pater ejus in domo Domini ex ære mundissimo.
The king had them cast in the Jordan region, in the clayey ground between Succoth and Zeredah.17 In regione Jordanis, fudit ea rex in argillosa terra inter Sochot et Saredatha.
Solomon made all these vessels, so many in number that the weight of the bronze was not ascertained.18 Erat autem multitudo vasorum innumerabilis, ita ut ignoraretur pondus æris.
Solomon had all these articles made for the house of God: the golden altar, the tables on which the showbread lay,19 Fecitque Salomon omnia vasa domus Dei, et altare aureum, et mensas, et super eas panes propositionis :
the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold which were to burn according to prescription before the sanctuary,20 candelabra quoque cum lucernis suis ut lucerent ante oraculum juxta ritum ex auro purissimo :
flowers, lamps and gold tongs (this was the purest gold),21 et florentia quædam, et lucernas, et forcipes aureos : omnia de auro mundissimo facta sunt.
snuffers, bowls, cups and firepans of pure gold. As for the entry to the house, its inner doors to the holy of holies, as well as the doors to the nave, were of gold.22 Thymiateria quoque, et thuribula, et phialas, et mortariola ex auro purissimo. Et ostia cælavit templi interioris, id est, in Sancta sanctorum : et ostia templi forinsecus aurea. Sicque completum est omne opus quod fecit Salomon in domo Domini.
