1 He conscripted seventy thousand men to carry stone and eighty thousand to cut the stone in the mountains, and over these he placed three thousand six hundred overseers.	1 - Decretò allora Salomone di edificare una casa al nome del Signore e un palazzo per sè,
2 Moreover, Solomon sent this message to Huram, king of Tyre: "As you dealt with my father David, sending him cedars to build a house for his dwelling, so deal with me.	2 destinando settantamila uomini a portar pesi e ottantamila a cavar pietre nella montagna, sotto la sorveglianza di tremilaseicento uomini.
3 I intend to build a house for the honor of the LORD, my God, and to consecrate it to him, for the burning of fragrant incense in his presence, for the perpetual display of the showbread, for holocausts morning and evening, and for the sabbaths, new moons, and festivals of the LORD, our God: such is Israel's perpetual obligation.	3 Mandò parimenti da Iram, re di Tiro, per dirgli: «Quel che hai fatto con Davide, padre mio, al quale mandasti legname di cedro per edificarsi la casa dove abitare,
4 And the house I intend to build must be large, for our God is greater than all other gods.	4 fallo anche con me, affinchè io possa costruire una casa al nome del Signore mio Dio e consacrargliela per bruciarvi incenso dinanzi a lui e spargervi il profumo degli aromi, per esporvi perennemente i pani e per immolarvi olocausti mattina e sera, nei sabati, nelle neomenie e nelle solennità del Signore Iddio nostro in sempiterno, come fu comandato ad Israele.
5 Yet who is really able to build him a house, since the heavens and even the highest heavens cannot contain him? And who am I that I should build him a house, unless it be to offer incense in his presence?	5 Poichè la casa, che bramo edificare, è grande e grande più di tutti gli dèi è il Signore Dio nostro.
6 Now, send me men skilled at work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, in purple, crimson, and violet fabrics, and who know how to do engraved work, to join the craftsmen who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David appointed.	6 Chi dunque sarà da tanto da edificargli una casa degna? Se il cielo e il cielo dei cieli non valgono a contenerlo, chi sono io mai da poter edificargli una casa? Ma essa non servirà che a bruciarvi incenso dinanzi a lui.
7 Also send me boards of cedar, cypress and cabinet wood from Lebanon, for I realize that your servants know how to cut the wood of the Lebanon. My servants will labor with yours	7 Mandami perciò un uomo valente, capace di lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il rame, il ferro, la porpora, lo scarlatto ed il giacinto, abile di fare lavori d'intaglio, valendosi degli artigiani che sono con me in Giudea e in Gerusalemme, raccolti da Davide, mio padre.
8 in order to prepare for me a great quantity of wood, since the house I intend to build must be lofty and wonderful.	8 Mandami in pari tempo legname di cedro, di cipresso e di pino dal Libano, poichè so che i tuoi servi sono abili nel tagliar le legna del Libano. I miei servi saranno coi tuoi servi,
9 I will furnish as food for your servants, the hewers who cut the wood, twenty thousand kors of wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil."	9 per prepararmi gran quantità di legname, perchè la casa ch'io bramo edificare è assai grande e magnifica.
10 Huram, king of Tyre, wrote an answer which he sent to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves his people, he has placed you over them as king."	10 Inoltre agli operai tuoi servi, che taglieranno le legna, io darò per loro vitto ventimila cori di frumento, altrettanti cori di orzo, ventimila metrete di vino e anche ventimila sati di olio».
11 He added: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, for having given King David a wise son of intelligence and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and also a house for his royal estate.	11 Iram, re di Tiro, rispose con una lettera, mandata a Salomone. «Poichè il Signore vuole bene al suo popolo, costituì te re sopra di lui».
12 I am now sending you a craftsman of great skill, Huram-abi,	12 E aggiunse: «Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele, creatore del cielo e della terra, che diede al re Davide un figlio saggio, istruito, sensato e prudente, perchè edificasse una casa al Signore e un palazzo per sè.
13 son of a Danite woman and of a father from Tyre; he knows how to work with gold, silver, bronze and iron, with stone and wood, with purple, violet, fine linen and crimson, and also how to do all kinds of engraved work and to devise every type of artistic work that may be given him and your craftsmen and the craftsmen of my lord David your father.	13 Mandai perciò un uomo prudente e abilissimo, Iram, padre mio,
14 And now, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine which he has promised.	14 figlio di una donna della tribù di Dan e di padre Tiro, il quale sa lavorare l'oro e l'argento, il rame e il ferro, il marmo e il legno e altresì la porpora, il giacinto, il bisso e lo scarlatto e che sa fare intagli d'ogni sorta e inventare ingegnosamente qualsiasi cosa che occorra. Egli sarà coi tuoi artefici e con quelli di Davide, mio signore e padre tuo.
15 For our part, we will cut trees on Lebanon, as many as you need, and float them down to you at the port of Joppa, whence you may take them up to Jerusalem."	15 Manda dunque, o mio signore, ai servi tuoi il frumento, l'orzo, l'olio e il vino, che hai promesso,
16 Thereupon Solomon took a census of all the alien men who were in the land of Israel (following the census David his father had taken of them), who were found to number one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.	16 e noi taglieremo tanta legna del Libano quanta ne abbisogni e la spediremo in zattere per mare fino a Joppe; sarà tua cura poi trasportarla a Gerusalemme».
17 Of these he made seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to keep the people working.	17 Salomone contò allora tutti gli stranieri che erano nella terra di Israele, secondo il censimento fatto da Davide suo padre, e trovò che erano centocinquantatremila e seicento.
	18 Fra questi ne scelse settantamila per portare a spalle i pesi, ottantamila per tagliar pietre sulle montagne, e tremilaseicento per sorvegliare il lavoro degli altri.
