1 He conscripted seventy thousand men to carry stone and eighty thousand to cut the stone in the mountains, and over these he placed three thousand six hundred overseers.	1 Salomón señaló 70.000 hombres para transportar cargas, 80.000 canteros en el monte y 3.600 capataces para ellos.
2 Moreover, Solomon sent this message to Huram, king of Tyre: "As you dealt with my father David, sending him cedars to build a house for his dwelling, so deal with me.	2 Salomón envió a decir a Juram, rey de Tiro: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole maderas de cedro para que se construyera una casa en que habitar.
3 I intend to build a house for the honor of the LORD, my God, and to consecrate it to him, for the burning of fragrant incense in his presence, for the perpetual display of the showbread, for holocausts morning and evening, and for the sabbaths, new moons, and festivals of the LORD, our God: such is Israel's perpetual obligation.	3 Te hago saber que voy a edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahveh, mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar ante él incienso aromático, para la ofrenda perpetua de los panes presentados, y para los holocaustos de la mañana y de la tarde, de los sábados, novilunios y solemnidades de Yahveh nuestro Dios, como se hace siempre en Israel.
4 And the house I intend to build must be large, for our God is greater than all other gods.	4 La Casa que voy a edificar será grande, porque nuestro Dios es mayor que todos los dioses.
5 Yet who is really able to build him a house, since the heavens and even the highest heavens cannot contain him? And who am I that I should build him a house, unless it be to offer incense in his presence?	5 Pero ¿quién será capaz de construirle una Casa, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerle? ¿Y quién soy yo para edificarle una Casa, aunque esté destinada tan sólo para quemar incienso en su presencia?
6 Now, send me men skilled at work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, in purple, crimson, and violet fabrics, and who know how to do engraved work, to join the craftsmen who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David appointed.	6 Envíame, pues, un hombre diestro en trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la púrpura escarlata, el carmesí y la púrpura violeta, y que sepa grabar; estará con los expertos que tengo conmigo en Judá y en Jerusalén, y que mi padre David ya había preparado.
7 Also send me boards of cedar, cypress and cabinet wood from Lebanon, for I realize that your servants know how to cut the wood of the Lebanon. My servants will labor with yours	7 Envíame también madera de cedro, de ciprés y algummim del Líbano; pues bien sé que tus siervos saben talar los árboles del Líbano, y mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos,
8 in order to prepare for me a great quantity of wood, since the house I intend to build must be lofty and wonderful.	8 para prepararme madera en abundancia; pues la Casa que voy a edificar ha de ser grande y maravillosa.
9 I will furnish as food for your servants, the hewers who cut the wood, twenty thousand kors of wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil."	9 Daré para el sustento de tus siervos, los taladores de los árboles, 20.000 cargas de trigo, 20.000 cargas de cebada, 20.000 medidas de vino y 20.000 medidas de aceite».
10 Huram, king of Tyre, wrote an answer which he sent to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves his people, he has placed you over them as king."	10 Juram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió al rey Salomón: «Por el amor que tiene Yahveh a su pueblo te ha hecho rey sobre ellos».
11 He added: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, for having given King David a wise son of intelligence and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and also a house for his royal estate.	11 Y añadía Juram: «Bendito sea Yahveh, el Dios de Israel, hacedor del cielo y de la tierra, que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, prudente e inteligente, que edificará una Casa a Yahveh y una casa real para sí.
12 I am now sending you a craftsman of great skill, Huram-abi,	12 Te envío, pues, ahora a Juram Abí, hombre hábil, dotado de inteligencia;
13 son of a Danite woman and of a father from Tyre; he knows how to work with gold, silver, bronze and iron, with stone and wood, with purple, violet, fine linen and crimson, and also how to do all kinds of engraved work and to devise every type of artistic work that may be given him and your craftsmen and the craftsmen of my lord David your father.	13 es hijo de una danita, y su padre es de Tiro. Sabe trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la piedra y la madera, la púrpura escarlata, la púrpura violeta, el lino fino y el carmesí. Sabe también hacer toda clase de grabados y ejecutar cualquier obra que se le proponga, a una con tus artífices y los artífices de mi señor David, tu padre.
14 And now, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine which he has promised.	14 Que mande, pues, a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino de que ha hablado mi señor,
15 For our part, we will cut trees on Lebanon, as many as you need, and float them down to you at the port of Joppa, whence you may take them up to Jerusalem."	15 y por nuestra parte cortaremos del Líbano toda la madera que necesites y te la llevaremos en balsas, por mar, hasta Joppe, y luego tú mandarás que la suban a Jerusalén».
16 Thereupon Solomon took a census of all the alien men who were in the land of Israel (following the census David his father had taken of them), who were found to number one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.	16 Salomón hizo el censo de todos los forasteros residentes en Israel, tomando por modelo el censo que había hecho su padre David; y se halló que eran 153.600.
17 Of these he made seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to keep the people working.	17 De ellos destinó 70.000 para el transporte de cargas, 80.000 para las canteras en las montañas y 3.600 como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.
