1 At that time Abijah, son of Jeroboam, took sick.	1 - In quel tempo si ammalò Abia figlio di Geroboamo.
2 So Jeroboam said to his wife, "Get ready and disguise yourself so that none will recognize you as Jeroboam's wife. Then go to Shiloh, where you will find the prophet Ahijah. It was he who predicted my reign over this people.	2 E Geroboamo disse alla sua moglie: «Levati, cambia vestito, così da non essere riconosciuta come moglie di Geroboamo e va' a Silo dove sta Aia profeta, che mi disse che io avrei regnato sopra questo popolo.
3 Take along ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of preserves, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the child."	3 Prendi con te dieci pani, una focaccia e un vaso di miele e va' a trovarlo. Egli ti indicherà quel che deve succedere di questo fanciullo».
4 The wife of Jeroboam obeyed. She made the journey to Shiloh and entered the house of Ahijah who could not see because age had dimmed his sight.	4 La moglie di Geroboamo fece come egli aveva detto, e levatasi andò a Silo ed entrò nella casa di Aia, il quale non poteva vederci, poichè i suoi occhi erano offuscati per la vecchiaia.
5 The LORD had said to Ahijah: "Jeroboam's wife is coming to consult you about her son, for he is sick. This is what you must tell her. When she comes, she will be in disguise."	5 Disse però il Signore ad Aia: «Ecco la moglie di Geroboamo; entra per consultarti a proposito del figliuol suo infermo. Tu le dirai così e così». Entrando essa e dissimulando quello che era,
6 So Ahijah, hearing the sound of her footsteps as she entered the door, said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why are you in disguise? I have been commissioned to give you bitter news.	6 Aia al sentire il rumore dei passi di lei, mentre entrava dalla porta, disse: «Entra, moglie di Geroboamo; perchè fingi di essere un'altra donna? Io sono mandato a te qual messaggero funesto.
7 Go, tell Jeroboam, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I exalted you from among the people and made you ruler of my people Israel.	7 Va' a dire a Geroboamo: - Il Signore Iddio di Israele queste cose ti dice: " Poichè io ti ho elevato in mezzo al popolo, e ti ho fatto duce del mio popolo Israele,
8 I deprived the house of David of the kingdom and gave it to you. Yet you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with his whole heart, doing only what pleased me.	8 e ho diviso il regno della casa di Davide e te ne diedi una parte, e tu non ti sei comportato come il mio servo Davide, che osservò i miei comandamenti e mi seguì con tutto il suo cuore, facendo quello che piaceva al mio cospetto;
9 You have done worse than all who preceded you: you have gone and made for yourself strange gods and molten images to provoke me; but me you have cast behind your back.	9 ma invece ti sei comportato peggio di quanti furono prima di te e ti sei fatto degli dèi stranieri e statue fuse per provocar me allo sdegno ed hai gettato me dietro alle tue spalle;
10 Therefore, I am bringing evil upon the house of Jeroboam: I will cut off every male in Jeroboam's line, whether slave or freeman in Israel, and will burn up the house of Jeroboam completely, as though dung were being burned.	10 per questo io farò piombare dei mali sulla casa di Geroboamo, e colpirò della casa di Geroboamo colui che orina alla parete, colui che è rinchiuso e colui che è l'ultimo in Israele, e spazzerò gli avanzi della casa di Geroboamo come si spazza lo sterco, finchè non sia tutto sparito.
11 When one of Jeroboam's line dies in the city, dogs will devour him; when one of them dies in the field, he will be devoured by the birds of the sky. For the LORD has spoken!'	11 Chi della casa di Geroboamo morrà nella città, sarà mangiato dai cani e chi morrà nella campagna, sarà divorato dagli uccelli del cielo " -; poichè il Signore ha parlato.
12 So leave; go home! As you step inside the city, the child will die,	12 Tu dunque levati e vattene a casa tua e appena porrai piede nella città, morirà il fanciullo.
13 and all Israel will mourn him and bury him, for he alone of Jeroboam's line will be laid in the grave, since in him alone of Jeroboam's house has something pleasing to the LORD, the God of Israel, been found.	13 Tutto Israele lo piangerà e gli darà sepoltura; poichè egli è il solo della famiglia di Geroboamo che sarà portato in un sepolcro, perchè è il solo di [quella] casa in cui siasi trovato dal Signore Dio d'Israele qualche cosa di buono.
14 Today, at this very moment, the LORD will raise up for himself a king of Israel who will destroy the house of Jeroboam.	14 Il Signore ha costituito re sopra Israele uno il quale sterminerà la casa di Geroboamo in questo giorno e in questo tempo;
15 The LORD will strike Israel like a reed tossed about in the water and will pluck out Israel from this good land which he gave their fathers, scattering them beyond the River, because they made sacred poles for themselves and thus provoked the LORD.	15 e il Signore Iddio percuoterà Israele come una canna suol essere agitata nell'acqua, e strapperà Israele da questa terra buona, che egli diede ai loro padri, e li disperderà al di là dal fiume, poichè si son fatti boschi sacri per irritare il Signore;
16 He will give up Israel because of the sins Jeroboam has committed and caused Israel to commit."	16 e il Signore abbandonerà Israele a cagione dei peccati di Geroboamo, il quale peccò e fece peccare Israele».
17 So Jeroboam's wife started back; when she reached Tirzah and crossed the threshold of her house, the child died.	17 Si levò allora la moglie di Geroboamo e partì. Arrivata a Tersa, mentre varcava il limitare della casa, il fanciullo morì,
18 He was buried with all Israel mourning him, as the LORD had prophesied through his servant the prophet Ahijah.	18 e venne sepolto e pianto da tutto Israele, secondo la parola del Signore, che egli aveva pronunziata per mezzo del servo suo Aia profeta.
19 The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, with his warfare and his reign, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	19 Il resto poi delle azioni di Geroboamo, come fece la guerra e come regnò, sta scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.
20 The length of Jeroboam's reign was twenty-two years. He rested with his ancestors, and his son Nadab succeeded him as king.	20 Geroboamo regnò ventidue anni e dormì coi padri suoi, e Nadab suo figlio gli succedette nel regno.
21 Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city in which, out of all the tribes of Israel, the LORD chose to be honored. His mother was the Ammonite named Naamah.	21 Frattanto Roboamo figlio di Salomone regnava sopra Giuda. Roboamo aveva quarantun anno quando cominciò a regnare e ne regnò diciassette in Gerusalemme, la città che il Signore si era scelta fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per porvi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naama l'Ammanita.
22 Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and by their sins angered him even more than their fathers had done.	22 Giuda fece il male al cospetto del Signore e lo irritò più di quanto avessero fatto i padri suoi coi peccati da essi commessi.
23 They, too, built for themselves high places, pillars, and sacred poles, upon every high hill and under every green tree.	23 Poichè anche essi si edificarono altari e statue e boschi sacri sopra ogni alta collina e sotto ogni albero fronzuto.
24 There were also cult prostitutes in the land. Judah imitated all the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD had cleared out of the Israelites' way.	24 Vi furono anche degli effeminati nel paese e praticarono tutte le abominazioni delle nazioni, che il Signore aveva distrutte davanti ai figli d'Israele.
25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem.	25 Nel quinto anno di Roboamo Sesac, re d'Egitto salì contro Gerusalemme
26 He took everything, including the treasures of the temple of the LORD and those of the royal palace, as well as all the gold shields made under Solomon.	26 e portò via i tesori della casa del Signore e i tesori reali e saccheggiò ogni cosa, anche gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone,
27 To replace them, King Rehoboam had bronze shields made, which he entrusted to the officers of the guard on duty at the entrance of the royal palace.	27 in sostituzione dei quali Roboamo fece degli scudi di rame, che affidò ai capitani delle guardie e a quei che vegliavano dinanzi alla porta della casa del re.
28 Whenever the king visited the temple of the LORD, those on duty would carry the shields, and then return them to the guardroom.	28 Ogni qualvolta il re entrava nella casa del Signore quei che avevano l'ufficio di precederlo li prendevano, e dopo li riportavano nell'arsenale delle guardie.
29 The rest of the acts of Rehoboam, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.	29 Il resto delle azioni di Roboamo e tutto ciò che egli fece sta scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.
30 There was constant warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.	30 Tra Roboamo e Geroboamo vi fu guerra continua.
31 Rehoboam rested with his ancestors; he was buried with them in the City of David. His mother was the Ammonite named Naamah. His son Abijam succeeded him as king.	31 Roboamo si addormentò co' padri suoi e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide. Il nome poi di sua madre era Naama l'Ammanita. Abia suo figlio regnò in sua vece.
