1 When Ishbaal, son of Saul, heard that Abner had died in Hebron, he ceased to resist and all Israel was alarmed.	1 Amikor Isbaál, Saul fia meghallotta, hogy Ábner elesett Hebronban, elvesztette bátorságát, s egész Izrael is megrémült.
2 Ishbaal, son of Saul, had two company leaders named Baanah and Rechab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the tribe of Benjamin. (Beeroth, too, was ascribed to Benjamin:	2 Volt már most Saul fiának két, portyázókat vezérlő embere. Az egyiknek a neve Baána, a másiknak a neve Rekáb volt. Benjamin fiai közül való beróti Rimmonnak voltak a fiai. Berót ugyanis szintén Benjaminnak jutott osztályrészül,
3 the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, where they have been resident aliens to this day.	3 de a berótiak elmenekültek Getaimba, és ott laknak mint jövevények mind ez ideig.
4 Jonathan, son of Saul, had a son named Meribbaal with crippled feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled. But in their hasty flight, he fell and became lame.)	4 Jonatánnak, Saul fiának pedig csak egy béna lábú fia volt. Ötesztendős volt akkor, amikor Saul és Jonatán felől Jezreelből a hír megérkezett, akkor dajkája felvette és elmenekült vele, minthogy azonban sietve menekült, a gyermek leesett és megsántult; Meribbaál volt a neve.
5 The sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, came into the house of Ishbaal during the heat of the day, while he was taking his siesta.	5 A beróti Rimmonnak ezek a fiai tehát, vagyis Rekáb és Baána elmentek, és a nap legforróbb szakán behatoltak Isbaál házába, aki éppen déli álmát aludta fekhelyén. 6 The portress of the house had dozed off while sifting wheat, and was asleep. So Rechab and his brother Baanah slipped past	6 Rekáb és Baána, a fivére belopóztak a házba, mintha búzát hoztak volna, s lágyékon sújtották Isbaált és elmenekültek.
7 and entered the house while Ishbaal was lying asleep in his bedroom. They struck and killed him, and cut off his head. Then, taking the head, they traveled on the Arabah road all night long.	7 Amikor ugyanis bementek a házba, az éppen aludt az ágyán hálószobájában, s így ők ütésükkel megölték. Aztán vették a fejét és egész éjjel meneteltek az Araba útján.
8 They brought the head of Ishbaal to David in Hebron and said to the king: "This is the head of Ishbaal, son of your enemy Saul, who sought your life. Thus has the LORD this day avenged my lord the king on Saul and his posterity."	8 Isbaál fejét elvitték Dávidhoz, Hebronba, és azt mondták a királynak: »Íme, Isbaálnak, Saul fiának, ellenségednek a feje, aki életedre tört. Így állt bosszút ma az Úr Saulon és ivadékán uramért, a királyért.«
9 But David replied to Rechab and his brother Baanah, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite: "As the LORD lives, who rescued me from all difficulty,	9 Dávid erre azt felelte Rekábnak és Baánának, a fivérének, a beróti Remmon fiainak: »Az Úr életére, mondom, aki megszabadította életemet minden szorongatásból,
10 in Ziklag I seized and put to death the man who informed me of Saul's death, thinking himself the bearer of good news for which I ought to give him a reward.	10 hogy ha azt, aki hírül hozta és azt mondta nekem: ‘Meghalt Saul’ – s úgy hitte, hogy jó hírt hozott, megfogattam és megölettem Szikelegben, hogy megadjam neki a hírért járó jutalmat,
11 How much more now, when wicked men have slain an innocent man in bed at home, must I hold you responsible for his death and destroy you from the earth!"	11 akkor most, amikor istentelen emberek ártatlan embert öltek meg saját házában és ágyában, hogyne kérném sokkal inkább számon vérét kezetektől, s hogyne veszítenélek el titeket a földről?«
12 So at a command from David, the young men killed them and cut off their hands and feet, hanging them up near the pool in Hebron. But he took the head of Ishbaal and buried it in Abner's grave in Hebron.	12 Azzal Dávid parancsolt legényeinek, s azok megölték őket, s levágták kezüket és lábukat, s felakasztották őket a hebroni tó mellett, Isbaál fejét pedig vették és eltemették Hebronban Ábner sírjába.
