1 Israel set out with all that was his. When he arrived at Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.	1 Israele adunque partì con tutto quello che aveva, e giunse al Pozzo del giuramento, ove offrì sacrifizi al Dio del suo padre Isacco.
2 There God, speaking to Israel in a vision by night, called, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he answered.	2 E nella visione della notte sentì Dio che lo chiamava e gli diceva: « Giacobbe, Giacobbe! » Avendo egli risposto: « Eccomi »,
3 Then he said: "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation.	3 Dio gli di se: « Io sono il fortissimo Dio di tuo padre: non temere: va pure in Egitto, chè là ti farò diventare una grande nazione.
4 Not only will I go down to Egypt with you; I will also bring you back here, after Joseph has closed your eyes."	4 Io vi discenderò teco, e di là ti ricondurrò quando ritornerai, e Giuseppe colle sue mani ti chiuderà gli occhi ».
5 So Jacob departed from Beer-sheba, and the sons of Israel put their father and their wives and children on the wagons that Pharaoh had sent for his transport.	5 E Giacobbe partì dal Pozzo del giuramento, e i suoi figli lo misero, coi bambini e colle donne, sui carri mandati da Faraone, per trasportare il vecchio
6 They took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his descendants migrated to Egypt.	6 e quanto possedeva nella terra di Canaan. Cosi egli giunse in Egitto con tutta la sua stirpe:
7 His sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters--all his descendants--he took with him to Egypt.	7 fìgli, nipoti, figlie e tutta la sua discendenza.
8 These are the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who migrated to Egypt. Reuben, Jacob's first-born,	8 Ecco i nomi dei figli d'Israele che entrarono in Egitto: Giacobbe e i suoi figlioli. Il primogenito, Ruben.
9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.	9 I figli di Ruben: Enoc, Fallu, Hesron e Carmi.
10 The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, son of a Canaanite woman.	10 I figli di Simeone: Iamuel, Iamini, Ahod, Iachin, Sohar e Saul, figlio di una Cananea.
11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.	11 I figli di Levi: Gerson, Gaat e Merari,
12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah--but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan; and the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.	12 I figli di Giuda: Er, Onan, Sola, Fares e Zara; ma Er ed Onan morirono nella terra di Canaan. I figli di Fares furono Hesron e Hamul.
13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron.	13 I figli di Issacar: Tela, Fua, Iob e Semron.
14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.	14 I figli di Zàbulon: Sared, Elon e Lahelel.
15 These were the sons whom Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, along with his daughter Dinah--thirty-three persons in all, male and female.	15 Questi sono i figli di Lia, che essa partorì nella Mesopotamia di Siria, oltre Dina sua figlia. I suoi figli e le sue figlie giungevano a trentatrè persone.
16 The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arod, and Areli.	16 I figli di Gad: Sefion, Haggi, Suni, Esebon, Eri, Arodi, Areli.

18 These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah; these she bore to Jacob--sixteen persons in all.	18 Questi sono i figli di Zelfa che Labano aveva data a sua figlia Lia, ed essa li partorì a Giacobbe: in tutto sedici persone.
19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	19 I figli di Rachele, moglie di Giacobbe: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
20 In the land of Egypt Joseph became the father of Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.	20 A Giuseppe, nel paese d'Egitto, nacquero i figli Manasse ed Efraim, partoritigli da Asenet, figlia di Putifare sacerdote di Eliopoli.
21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ahiram, Shupham, Hupham, and Ard.	21 I figli di Beniamino: Bela, Becor, Asbel, Gera, Naaman, Echi, Ros, Mofìm, Ofìm e Ared.
22 These were the sons whom Rachel bore to Jacob--fourteen persons in all.	22 Questi sono i figli di Rachele che nacquero a Giacobbe: in tutto quattordici persone.
23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.	23 I figli di Dan: Husim.
24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.	24 I figli di Nettali: Lasiel, Guni, Leser e Sallem.
25 These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel; these she bore to Jacob--seven persons in all.	25 Questi sono i figli di Baia, data da Labano a sua figlia Rachele: ed essa li partorì a Giacobbe: in tutto sette persone.
26 Jacob's people who migrated to Egypt--his direct descendants, not counting the wives of Jacob's sons--numbered sixty-six persons in all.	26 Tutte le persone che andarono in Egitto con Giacobbe, e discesero da lui, tolte le mogli dei suoi figli, eran sessantasei.
27 Together with Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt--two persons--all the people comprising Jacob's family who had come to Egypt amounted to seventy persons in all.	27 0r essendo due i figli nati a Giuseppe in Egitto, tutte le persone della casa di Giacobbe, che entrarono in Egitto, furono settanta.
28 Israel had sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that he might meet him in Goshen. On his arrival in the region of Goshen,	28 0r Giacobbe mandò Giuda davanti a sé a Giuseppe, per avvisarlo che gli venisse incontro in Gessen.
29 Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and rode to meet his father Israel in Goshen. As soon as he saw him, he flung himself on his neck and wept a long time in his arms.	29 E quando vi fu arrivato, Giuseppe, fatto attaccare il suo cocchio, andò incontro al padre in Gessen, e quando lo vide si abbandonò sul collo di lui, lo abbracciò e pianse.
30 And Israel said to Joseph, "At last I can die, now that I have seen for myself that Joseph is still alive."	30 E il padre disse a Giuseppe: « Ora posso morir contento, perchè ho veduto la tua faccia e ti lascio dopo di me! »
31 Joseph then said to his brothers and his father's household: "I will go and inform Pharaoh, telling him: 'My brothers and my father's household, whose home is in the land of Canaan, have come to me.	31 Poi Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli e a tutta la famiglia di suo padre: « Andrò ad informare Faraone, e gli dirò: I miei fratelli e la famiglia di mio padre, che erano nella terra di Canaan, sono venuti da me.
32 The men are shepherds, having long been keepers of livestock; and they have brought with them their flocks and herds, as well as everything else they own.'	32 Essi sono pastori ed attendono all'allevamento del bestiame: han quindi condotto seco i greggi, gli armenti e quanto potevano avere.
33 So when Pharaoh summons you and asks what your occupation is,	33 Or quando il re vi farà chiamare e vi dirà: Qual mestiere fate?
34 you must answer, 'We your servants, like our ancestors, have been keepers of livestock from the beginning until now,' in order that you may stay in the region of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to the Egyptians."	34 risponderete: Noi tuoi servi siamo pastori dalla nostra infanzia fino ad oggi, e come noi i nostri padri. Direte così, per potere abitare nella terra di Gessen ; perchè gli Egiziani abominano tutti i pastori di pecore ».
