NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Israel set out with all that was his. When he arrived at Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.1 Profectusque Israel cum omnibus, quae habebat, venit Bersabee et, mactatis ibi victimis Deo patris sui Isaac,
There God, speaking to Israel in a vision by night, called, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he answered.2 audivit eum per visionem noctis vocantem se: “ Iacob, Iacob! ”. Cui respondit: “ Ecce adsum! ”.
Then he said: "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation.3 Ait illi: “ Ego sum Deus, Deus patris tui. Noli timere descendere in Aegyptum, quia in gentem magnam faciam te ibi.
Not only will I go down to Egypt with you; I will also bring you back here, after Joseph has closed your eyes."4 Ego descendam tecum illuc et ego inde adducam te revertentem; Ioseph quoque ponet manus suas super oculos tuos ”.
So Jacob departed from Beer-sheba, and the sons of Israel put their father and their wives and children on the wagons that Pharaoh had sent for his transport.5 Surrexit igitur Iacob a Bersabee, tuleruntque eum filii cum parvulis et uxoribus suis in plaustris, quae miserat pharao ad portandum senem,
They took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his descendants migrated to Egypt.6 sumpserunt quoque omnia, quae possederant in terra Chanaan; veneruntque in Aegyptum Iacob et omne semen eius,

In the land of Egypt Joseph became the father of Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.20 Natique sunt Ioseph filii in terra Aegypti, quos genuit ei Aseneth filia Putiphare sacerdotis Heliopoleos: Manasses et Ephraim.

Jacob's people who migrated to Egypt--his direct descendants, not counting the wives of Jacob's sons--numbered sixty-six persons in all.26 Cunctae animae, quae ingressae sunt cum Iacob in Aegyptum et egressae de femore illius, absque uxoribus filiorum eius, sexaginta sex.
Together with Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt--two persons--all the people comprising Jacob's family who had come to Egypt amounted to seventy persons in all.27 Filii autem Ioseph, qui nati sunt ei in terra Aegypti, animae duae. Omnes animae domus Iacob, quae ingressae sunt in Aegyptum, fuere septuaginta.
Israel had sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that he might meet him in Goshen. On his arrival in the region of Goshen,28 Misit autem Iudam ante se ad Ioseph, ut nuntiaret et occurreret in Gessen.
Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and rode to meet his father Israel in Goshen. As soon as he saw him, he flung himself on his neck and wept a long time in his arms.29 Et venerunt in terram Gessen. Iunctoque Ioseph curru suo, ascendit obviam patri suo in Gessen; vidensque eum irruit super collum eius et inter amplexus diu flevit.
And Israel said to Joseph, "At last I can die, now that I have seen for myself that Joseph is still alive."30 Dixitque Israel ad Ioseph: “ Iam laetus moriar, quia vidi faciem tuam et superstitem te relinquo ”.
Joseph then said to his brothers and his father's household: "I will go and inform Pharaoh, telling him: 'My brothers and my father's household, whose home is in the land of Canaan, have come to me.31 Et ille locutus est ad fratres suos et ad omnem domum patris sui: “ Ascendam et nuntiabo pharaoni dicamque ei: Fratres mei et domus patris mei, qui erant in terra Chanaan, venerunt ad me.
The men are shepherds, having long been keepers of livestock; and they have brought with them their flocks and herds, as well as everything else they own.'32 Et sunt viri pastores ovium curamque habent alendorum gregum; pecora sua et armenta et omnia, quae habere potuerunt, adduxerunt secum.
So when Pharaoh summons you and asks what your occupation is,33 Cumque vocaverit vos et dixerit: "Quod est opus vestrum?".
you must answer, 'We your servants, like our ancestors, have been keepers of livestock from the beginning until now,' in order that you may stay in the region of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to the Egyptians."34 Respondebitis: "Viri pastores sumus servi tui ab infantia nostra usque in praesens et nos et patres nostri". Haec autem dicetis, ut habitare possitis in terra Gessen, quia detestantur Aegyptii omnes pastores ovium ”.
