Genesis 35

1 God said to Jacob: "Go up now to Bethel. Settle there and build an altar there to the God who appeared to you while you were fleeing from your brother Esau."	1 Dio disse a Giacobbe: "Alzati, va' a Betel e abita là; costruisci in quel luogo un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando fuggivi Esaù, tuo fratello".
2 So Jacob told his family and all the others who were with him: "Get rid of the foreign gods that you have among you; then purify yourselves and put on fresh clothes.	2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a quanti erano con lui: "Eliminate gli dèi stranieri che avete con voi, purificatevi e cambiate gli abiti.
3 We are now to go up to Bethel, and I will build an altar there to the God who answered me in my hour of distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone."	3 Poi alziamoci e andiamo a Betel, dove io costruirò un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito al tempo della mia angoscia e che è stato con me nel cammino che ho percorso".
4 They therefore handed over to Jacob all the foreign gods in their possession and also the rings they had in their ears.	4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi; Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto la quercia presso Sichem.
5 Then, as they set out, a terror from God fell upon the towns round about, so that no one pursued the sons of Jacob.	5 Poi levarono l'accampamento e un terrore molto forte assalì i popoli che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.
6 Thus Jacob and all the people who were with him arrived in Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.	6 Giacobbe e tutta la gente ch'era con lui arrivarono a Luz, cioè Betel, che è nel paese di Canaan.
7 There he built an altar and named the place Bethel, for it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.	7 Qui egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo "El-Betel", perché là Dio gli si era rivelato, quando sfuggiva al fratello.
8 Death came to Rebekah's nurse Deborah; she was buried under the oak below Bethel, and so it was called Allonbacuth.	8 Allora morì Dèbora, la nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Betel, ai piedi della quercia, che perciò si chiamò Quercia del Pianto.
9 On Jacob's arrival from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.	9 Dio apparve un'altra volta a Giacobbe, quando tornava da Paddan-Aram, e lo benedisse.
10 God said to him: "You whose name is Jacob shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." Thus he was named Israel.	10 Dio gli disse: "Il tuo nome è Giacobbe. Non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma Israele sarà il tuo nome". Così lo si chiamò Israele.
11 God also said to him: "I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, shall stem from you, and kings shall issue from your loins.	11 Dio gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente. Sii fecondo e diventa numeroso, popolo e assemblea di popoli verranno da te, re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.
12 The land I once gave to Abraham and Isaac I now give to you; And to your descendants after you will I give this land."	12 Il paese che ho concesso ad Abramo e a Isacco darò a te e alla tua stirpe dopo di te darò il paese".
13 Then God departed from him.	13 Dio scomparve da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.
14 On the site where God had spoken with him, Jacob set up a memorial stone, and upon it he made a libation and poured out oil.	14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele, dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra, e su di essa fece una libazione e versò olio.
15 Jacob named the site Bethel, because God had spoken with him there.	15 Giacobbe chiamò Betel il luogo dove Dio gli aveva parlato.
16 Then they departed from Bethel; but while they still had some distance to go on the way to Ephrath, Rachel began to be in labor and to suffer great distress.	16 Poi levarono l'accampamento da Betel. Mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare ad Èfrata, quando Rachele partorì ed ebbe un parto difficile.
17 When her pangs were most severe, her midwife said to her, "Have no fear! This time, too, you have a son."	17 Mentre penava a partorire, la levatrice le disse: "Non temere: anche questo è un figlio!".
18 With her last breath--for she was at the point of death-she called him Ben-oni; his father, however, named him Benjamin.	18 Mentre esalava l'ultimo respiro, perché stava morendo, essa lo chiamò Ben-Oni, ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamino.
19 Thus Rachel died; and she was buried on the road to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).	19 Così Rachele morì e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Èfrata, cioè Betlemme.
20 Jacob set up a memorial stone on her grave, and the same monument marks Rachel's grave to this day.	20 Giacobbe eresse sulla sua tomba una stele. Questa stele della tomba di Rachele esiste fino ad oggi.
21 Israel moved on and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-eder.	21 Poi Israele levò l'accampamento e piantò la tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.
22 While Israel was encamped in that region, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine. When Israel heard of it, he was greatly offended. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 Mentre Israele abitava in quel paese, Ruben andò a unirsi con Bila, concubina del padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.
23 The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob's first-born, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;	23 I figli di Lia: il primogenito di Giacobbe, Ruben, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Ìssacar e Zàbulon.
24 the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;	24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
25 the sons of Rachel's maid Bilhah: Dan and Naphtali;	25 I figli di Bila, schiava di Rachele: Dan e Nèftali.
26 the sons of Leah's maid Zilpah: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.	26 I figli di Zilpa, schiava di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figli di Giacobbe che gli nacquero in Paddan-Aram.
27 Jacob went home to his father Isaac at Mamre, in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.	27 Poi Giacobbe venne da suo padre Isacco a Mamre, a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato come forestieri.
28 The lifetime of Isaac was one hundred and eighty years;	28 Isacco raggiunse l'età di centottat'anni.
29 then he breathed his last. After a full life, he died as an old man and was taken to his kinsmen. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e si riunì al suo parentado, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Esaù e Giacobbe.
