1 In the days of. . . , Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim	1 En ce temps-là, Amraphel roi de Sennaar, Arioch roi de Pont, Chodorlahomor roi des Elamites, et Thadal roi des Nations,
2 made war on Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).	2 firent la guerre contre Bara roi de Sodome, contre Bersa roi de Gomorrhe, contre Sennaab roi d'Adama, contre Séméber roi de Séboïm, et contre le roi de Bala, c'est-à-dire de Ségor.
3 All the latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).	3 Tous ces rois s'assemblèrent dans la vallée des Bois, qui est maintenant la mer salée.
4 For twelve years they had been subject to Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.	4 Ils avaient été assujettis à Chodorlahomor pendant douze ans, et la treizième année ils se retirèrent de sa domination.
5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings allied with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,	5 Ainsi l'an quatorzième, Chodorlahomor vint avec les rois qui s'étaient joints à lui, et ils défirent les Raphaïtes dans Astaroth-Carnaïm, les Zuzites qui étaient avec eux, les Emites dans Savé-Cariathaïm,
6 and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as Elparan, close by the wilderness.	6 et les Chorréens dans les montagnes de Séir, jusqu'aux campagnes de Pharan, qui est dans la solitude (le désert).
7 They then turned back and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they subdued the whole country both of the Amalekites and of the Amorites who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.	7 Etant retournés, ils vinrent à la fontaine de Misphat, qui est le même lieu que Cadès ; et ils ravagèrent tout le pays des Amalécites, et défirent les Amorrhéens (qui habitaient) dans Asason-Thamar.
8 Thereupon the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out, and in the Valley of Siddim they went into battle against them:	8 Alors le roi de Sodome, le roi de Gomorrhe, le roi d'Adama, le roi de Séboïm, et le roi de Bala, qui est la même que Ségor, se mirent en campagne (partirent), et rangèrent leurs troupes en bataille dans la vallée des Bois contre ces princes (eux) ;
9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar-four kings against five.	9 c'est-à-dire, contre Chodorlahomor roi des Elamites, Thadal roi des Nations, Amraphel roi de Sennaar, et Arioch roi de Pont : quatre rois contre cinq.
10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits; and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, they fell into these, while the rest fled to the mountains.	10 (Or) Il y avait beaucoup de puits de bitume dans cette vallée des Bois. Le roi de Sodome et le roi de Gomorrhe furent mis en fuite, et ils périrent là (y tombèrent, ne sont pas morts) ; et ceux qui échappèrent s'enfuirent sur la montagne.
11 The victors seized all the possessions and food supplies of Sodom and Gomorrah and then went their way,	11 Les vainqueurs ayant pris toutes les richesses et les vivres de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, se retirèrent ;
12 taking with them Abram's nephew Lot, who had been living in Sodom, as well as his possessions.	12 et ils emmenèrent aussi Lot, fils du frère d'Abram, qui demeurait dans Sodome, et tout ce qui était à lui.
13 A fugitive came and brought the news to Abram the Hebrew, who was camping at the terebinth of Mamre the Amorite, a kinsman of Eshcol and Aner; these were in league with Abram.	13 Et voici qu'un homme qui s'était échappé vint avertir Abram (l'Hébreu), qui demeurait dans la vallée de Mambré l'Amorrhéen, frère d'Escol et frère d'Aner, qui tous trois avaient fait alliance avec Abram.
14 When Abram heard that his nephew had been captured, he mustered three hundred and eighteen of his retainers, born in his house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.	14 Abram ayant su que Lot son frère avait été pris, choisit les plus braves (agiles) de ses serviteurs, au nombre de trois cent dix-huit, et poursuivit ces rois jusqu'à Dan.
15 He and his party deployed against them at night, defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.	15 Ayant formé plusieurs corps de ses gens et de ses alliés, il fondit sur les ennemis durant la nuit, les défit, et les poursuivit jusqu'à Hoba, qui est à la gauche de Damas.
16 He recovered all the possessions, besides bringing back his kinsman Lot and his possessions, along with the women and the other captives.	16 Et il ramena avec lui tout le butin qu'ils avaient pris, Lot son frère avec ce qui était à lui, les femmes et tout le peuple.
17 When Abram returned from his victory over Chedorlaomer and the kings who were allied with him, the king of Sodom went out to greet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).	17 Et (Mais) le roi de Sodome sortit au-devant de lui, lorsqu'il revenait après la défaite de Chodorlahomor et des autres rois qui étaient avec lui, dans la vallée de Savé, appelée aussi la vallée du Roi.
18 Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words:	18 Et (Mais) Melchisédech, roi de Salem, offrant du pain et du vin, parce qu'il était prêtre du Dieu très haut,
19 Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth;	19 bénit Abram, en disant : Qu'Abram soit béni du (par le) Dieu très haut, qui a créé le ciel et la terre ;
20 And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.	20 et que le Dieu très haut soit béni, lui qui par sa protection t'a mis tes ennemis entre les mains. Alors (Et) Abram lui donna la dîme de tout ce qu'il avait pris.
21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people; the goods you may keep."	21 Or (Mais) le roi de Sodome dit à Abram : Donne-moi les personnes (âmes), et prends le reste pour toi.
22 But Abram replied to the king of Sodom: "I have sworn to the LORD, God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth,	22 Abram lui répondit : Je lève la main (et je jure par) (vers) le Seigneur le Dieu très haut, possesseur du ciel et de la terre,
23 that I would not take so much as a thread or a sandal strap from anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I made Abram rich.'	23 que je ne recevrai rien de tout ce qui est à toi, depuis le moindre fil jusqu'à une courroie de sandale ; afin que tu ne puisses pas dire : J'ai enrichi Abram.
24 Nothing for me except what my servants have used up and the share that is due to the men who joined me--Aner, Eshcol and Mamre; let them take their share."	24 J'accepte (excepte) seulement ce que mes gens ont pris pour leur nourriture (mangé), et ce qui est dû à ceux qui sont venus avec moi, Aner, Escol et Mambré, qui pourront prendre leur part du butin.
