1 In the days of. . . , Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim	1 Lorsque régnaient Amrafel roi de Chinéar, Aryok roi d’Élasar, Kédor-Laomer roi d’Élam et Tidéal roi des Goyim,
2 made war on Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).	2 ces rois firent la guerre à Béra roi de Sodome, à Bircha roi de Gomorrhe, à Chinéab roi d’Adma, à Chéméber roi de Séboyim et au roi de Béla qu’on appelle aussi Soar.
3 All the latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).	3 Tous ceux-ci se rassemblèrent dans la vallée de Siddim (c’est la Mer du Sel).
4 For twelve years they had been subject to Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.	4 Ils avaient été soumis pendant douze ans à Kédor-Laomer, mais la treizième année ils se révoltèrent.
5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings allied with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,	5 Aussi, la quatorzième année, Kédor-Laomer vint avec les rois ses alliés. Ils battirent les Réphaïm à Achtérot-Karnayim, les Zouzim à Ham, les Émim dans la plaine de Kiryatayim,
6 and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as Elparan, close by the wilderness.	6 les Horites dans la montagne de Séïr jusqu’au Chêne de Paran, à la limite du désert.
7 They then turned back and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they subdued the whole country both of the Amalekites and of the Amorites who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.	7 Ils revinrent ensuite et arrivèrent à la Source du Jugement (c’est Qadesh); ils ravagèrent toutes les campagnes des Amalécites et des Amorites qui habitent à Hassasson-Tamar.
8 Thereupon the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out, and in the Valley of Siddim they went into battle against them:	8 Alors le roi de Sodome, le roi de Gomorrhe, le roi d’Adma, le roi de Séboyim et le roi de Béla (c’est Soar) se mirent en campagne et se rangèrent en bataille dans la vallée de Siddim,
9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar-four kings against five.	9 contre Kédor-Laomer roi d’Élam, Tidéal roi des Goyim, Amrafel roi de Chinéar et Aryok roi d’Élasar: quatre rois contre cinq.
10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits; and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, they fell into these, while the rest fled to the mountains.	10 Or les puits de bitume étaient très nombreux dans la vallée de Siddim. En fuyant, le roi de Sodome et le roi de Gomorrhe tombèrent dedans; quant aux autres, ils se réfugièrent dans la montagne.
11 The victors seized all the possessions and food supplies of Sodom and Gomorrah and then went their way,	11 Les vainqueurs pillèrent Sodome et Gomorrhe, prirent tous les vivres et s’en allèrent.
12 taking with them Abram's nephew Lot, who had been living in Sodom, as well as his possessions.	12 Ils avaient pris aussi Lot et tous ses biens avant de partir: c’était le neveu d’Abram et il habitait Sodome.
13 A fugitive came and brought the news to Abram the Hebrew, who was camping at the terebinth of Mamre the Amorite, a kinsman of Eshcol and Aner; these were in league with Abram.	13 Un des rescapés vint apporter la nouvelle à Abram l’Hébreu, qui résidait alors près du chêne de Mambré l’Amorite, frère d’Echkol et d’Aner, les alliés d’Abram.
14 When Abram heard that his nephew had been captured, he mustered three hundred and eighteen of his retainers, born in his house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.	14 Quand Abram apprit que son neveu avait été emmené prisonnier, il rassembla ses hommes de guerre, tous ceux qui étaient nés dans sa maison, et se lança à la poursuite des pillards jusqu’à Dan.
15 He and his party deployed against them at night, defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.	15 Avec ses serviteurs, 318 en tout, il se jeta sur eux en pleine nuit, les battit et les poursuivit jusqu’à Hoba, au nord de Damas.
16 He recovered all the possessions, besides bringing back his kinsman Lot and his possessions, along with the women and the other captives.	16 Il reprit tout le butin, ainsi que son neveu Lot et ses biens, avec ses femmes et ses gens.
17 When Abram returned from his victory over Chedorlaomer and the kings who were allied with him, the king of Sodom went out to greet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).	17 Comme Abram revenait après avoir battu Kédor-Laomer et les rois qui étaient avec lui, le roi de Sodome vint à sa rencontre dans la vallée de Chavé (c’est la Vallée du Roi).
18 Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words:	18 Alors Melkisédek, roi de Shalem, apporta du pain et du vin: il était prêtre du Dieu Très-Haut.
19 Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth;	19 Il bénit Abram et dit: “Béni soit Abram par le Dieu Très-Haut, créateur du ciel et de la terre!
20 And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.	20 Béni soit le Dieu Très-Haut qui a livré tes ennemis entre tes mains!” Abram lui donna la dixième partie de tout ce qu’il ramenait.
21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people; the goods you may keep."	21 Le roi de Sodome dit ensuite à Abram: “Donne-moi les personnes que tu as libérées et garde pour toi les biens.”
22 But Abram replied to the king of Sodom: "I have sworn to the LORD, God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth,	22 Mais Abram répondit au roi de Sodome: “Je le jure par Yahvé, Dieu Très-Haut, créateur du ciel et de la terre:
23 that I would not take so much as a thread or a sandal strap from anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I made Abram rich.'	23 je ne prendrai rien de ce qui est à toi, ni un fil, ni une courroie de sandale. Je ne veux pas que tu puisses dire: J’ai enrichi Abram.
24 Nothing for me except what my servants have used up and the share that is due to the men who joined me--Aner, Eshcol and Mamre; let them take their share."	24 Non, rien pour moi, si ce n’est la nourriture de mes serviteurs. Mais les hommes qui sont venus avec moi, Aner, Echkol et Mambré, eux, prendront leur part.”
