Deuteronomio 29

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E Mosè convocò tutto Israele, e disse loro: Voi vedeste tutto quello che fece il Signore dinanzi a voi nella terra d'Egitto a Faraone, e a tutti i suoi servi, e a tutto il suo regno;	1 Moses called all Israel together and said to them: 'You have seen everything that Yahweh did beforeyour eyes in Egypt, to Pharaoh, to his servants and to his whole country-
2 Quelle grandi tribolazioni, e que’ segni e prodigii grandiosi, de quali foste voi spettatori;	2 the great ordeals which you yourselves witnessed, those signs and the great wonders.
3 E fino al dì d'oggi non ha dato a voi il Signore un cuore intelligente, né occhi veggenti, né orecchie capaci di udire.	3 But until today Yahweh has not given you a heart to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.
4 Egli fu vostra guida per quarant' anni nel deserto: non si logoraron le vostre vesti, e i calzari dei vostri piedi non si consumarono per vecchiezza.	4 'I have been leading you for forty years in the desert, yet the clothes which you have been wearinghave not worn out, nor have the sandals on your feet.
5 Non mangiaste pane, né beveste vino, o sicera, affinché conosceste, com'io Dio vostro sono il Signore.	5 You have had no bread to eat, you have had no wine or fermented liquor to drink, so that you wouldlearn that I, Yahweh, am your God.
6 E giungeste a questo luogo: e si mossero Sehon re di Hesebon, e Og re di Basan per venire a combatterci. E noi li mettemmo in rotta:	6 'When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to do battleagainst us; we defeated them.
7 E occupammo il loro paese, e ne demmo il dominio a Ruben, e a Gad, e a mezza la tribù di Manasse.	7 We conquered their country and gave it as heritage to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
8 Osservate adunque le condizioni di quest'alleanza, e adempitele affinché in tutto quello che fate, siate intelligenti.	8 'Keep the words of this covenant, put them into practice, and you wil thrive in everything you do.
9 Voi state tutti quest’oggi dinanzi al Signore Dio vostro, i principi delle vostre tribù, e i seniori, e i dottori, e tutto il popolo d'Israele,	9 'Al of you are standing here today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your tribal leaders, yourelders, your scribes, al the men of Israel,
10 I vostri figliuoli, e le vostre mogli, e i forestieri, che dimorano tra di voi negli alloggiamenti, eccetto quelli che taglian le legna, e que’ che portano l’acqua,	10 with your children and your wives (and the foreigner too who is in your camp, be he your wood-cutteror your water-carrier),
11 Per entrare nell’alleanza del Signore Dio tuo, alleanza giurata in quest’oggi dal Signore Dio tuo con te:	11 and you are about to pass into the covenant of Yahweh your God, sworn with imprecation, which hehas made with you today,
12 Ond'egli ti scelga in suo popolo, ed egli sia il tuo Dio, come promise a te, e come lo giurò a' padri tuoi Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe.	12 and by which, today, he makes you a nation for himself and he himself becomes a God to you, as hehas promised you, and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
13 E non per voi soli io stringo oggi quest'alleanza, e la confermo con giuramento,	13 Not only on your behalf am I today making this covenant and pronouncing this solemn curse,
14 Ma per tutti quelli che sono qui, e per quelli che qui non sono.	14 not only on behalf of those standing here with us in the presence of Yahweh our God today, but alsoon behalf of those not here with us today.
15 Imperocché voi sapete, come noi abitammo nella terra d'Egitto, e come passammo per mezzo alle nazioni, e in passandovi,	15 'Yes, you know the people with whom we used to live in Egypt, and those through whose countrieswe have travel ed -- the nations through whom we have passed.
16 Voi vedeste le abbominazioni, e le sozzure, cioè a dire i loro idoli, il legno, la pietra, l’oro, l’argento, ch'elle adoravano.	16 You have seen their abominations and their idols made of wood and stone, silver and gold, whichwere there.
17 Non siavi tra voi uomo, o donna, famiglia, o tribù, che abbia oggi il cuore alieno dal Signore Dio nostro; onde vada a servire agli dei di queste nazioni, e spunti tra voi questa radice che germini fiele e amaritudine.	17 'Let there be no man or woman of you, no clan or tribe, whose heart turns away from Yahweh yourGod today, to go and serve the gods of these nations. Among you let there be no root which bears poison orwormwood.
18 E costui avendo udite le parole della giurata alleanza si lusinghi in cuor suo, e dica: Io me ne starò in pace, e seguirò la pravità del mio cuore: e l'ebbro conduca in rovina colui che soffre la sete,	18 If, after hearing this imprecation, anyone, blessing himself, should say in his heart, "I shall do wellenough if I fol ow the dictates of my heart; much water drives away thirst,"
19 Non gli perdonerà il Signore: ma allora massimamente fumerà il suo sdegno, e lo zelo di lui contro questo tale, e sopra di lui poseranno tutte le maledizioni, che sono scritte in questo volume: e il Signore farà che più non resti memoria di lui sotto del cielo,	19 Yahweh wil not pardon him. The wrath and jealousy of Yahweh wil blaze against such a person;every curse written in this book wil fal on him, and Yahweh will blot his name out under heaven.
20 E lo sterminerà in perpetuo da tutte le tribù d'Israele secondo le maledizioni contenute in questo libro della legge, e della alleanza.	20 Yahweh wil single him out of al the tribes of Israel for misfortune, in accordance with al the cursesof the covenant written in the book of this Law.
21 E la generazione che succederà, e i fanciulli nati in appresso, e i forestieri venuti da lungi, in veggendo le piaghe di questo paese, e i mali, onde lo affliggerà il Signore,	21 'The future generation, that of your children coming after you, and the foreigner arriving from somefar-away land, on seeing the plagues and diseases inflicted on this country by Yahweh, wil exclaim,
22 (II quale lo brucerà col zolfo, e col sale ardente, talmente che più non ci si faccia sementa, e nulla di verde ci pulluli, a similitudine della distruzione di Sodoma, e di Gomorra, di Adama, e di Seboim rovinate dal Signore nel furore dell'ira sua),	22 "Sulphur! Salt!-The whole country is burning! No one wil sow, nothing grow, no vegetation springever again! Devastation like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m, devastated by Yahweh in hisfurious wrath!"
23 Diranno (e con essi tutte le genti): Per qual motivo ha egli il Signore trattato così questo paese? che ira, e furore immenso è mai questo?	23 And al the nations wil exclaim, "Why has Yahweh treated this country like this? Why this great blazeof anger?"
24 E sarà loro risposto: perché hanno messo in non cale il patto fermato dal Signore co' padri loro, allorché dalla terra d’Egitto li trasse:	24 'And people wil say, "Because they deserted the covenant of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, thecovenant which he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt;
25 Ed ei servirono alle straniere divinità, e queste adorarono, le quali eglino non conoscevano, ed alle quali non erano stati sottomessi:	25 because they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods hitherto unknown to them,gods that were no part of their heritage from him:
26 Per questo si è acceso il furor del Signore contro di questa terra sino a piovere sopra di lei tutte le maledizioni che in questo libro sono descritte:	26 this is why Yahweh's anger has blazed against this country, afflicting it with al the curses written inthis book.
27 E nel furore dell'ira sua, e nella somma sua indegnazione gli ha discacciati dalla loro terra: e gli ha gettati in una terra straniera, com'oggi si fa manifesto:	27 In anger, in fury, in fierce wrath, Yahweh has torn them from their own country and flung them intoanother country, where they are today."
28 Segreti del Signore Dio nostro, disvelati a noi, e a' nostri figliuoli in perpetuo, affinché mettiamo in esecuzione tutte quante le parole di questa legge.	28 Things hidden belong to Yahweh our God, but things revealed are ours and our children's for ever,so that we can put al the words of this Law into practice.'
