1 E giunto che fu Roboamo a Gerusalemme, convocò tutta la tribù di Giuda, e quella di Beiliamin, in numero di cento ottanta mila scelti combattenti, per far guerra ad Israele, e riunirlo al suo regno.	1 Then Rehoboam went to Jerusalem, and he called together the entire house of Judah and of Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand elect men of war, so that he might contend against Israel, and turn back his kingdom to himself.
2 Ma il Signore parlò a Semeia uomo di Dio, e disse:	2 And the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying:
3 Dirai a Roboam figliuòlo di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutto Israele di Giuda, e di Benjamin:	3 “Speak to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, the king of Judah, and to all of Israel who are of Judah, or of Benjamin:
4 Queste cose dice il Signore: Non vi moverete, né farete guerra ai vostri fratelli: se ne torni ciascuno a casa sua, perocché per voler mio è avvenuto questo. E quelli, udita la parola del Signore, se n'andarono, né si mossero contro Geroboam.	4 Thus says the Lord: You shall not ascend and fight against your brothers. Let each one return to his own house. For it is by my will that this has happened.” And when they had heard the word of the Lord, they turned back, and they did not continue on against Jeroboam.
5 E Roboamo abitò in Gerusalemme, e fabbricò delle città murate nel paese di Giuda.	5 Then Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and he built fortified cities in Judah.
6 E fortificò Bethlehem, ed Etam, e Thecue;	6 And he built up Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 Ed anche Bethsur, e Socho, e Odollam;	7 and also Bethzur, and Soco, and Adullam,
8 E Geth, e Maresa, e Ziph;	8 indeed also Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 E Aduram, e Lachis, e Azeca;	9 then too Adoram, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 E Saraa, e Ajalon, ed Hebron, che erano nel paese di Giuda, e di Beniamin, città fortissime.	10 as well as Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which were very fortified cities in Judah and in Benjamin.
11 E quando le ebbe cinte di mura, vi pose dei governatori, e dei magazzini di viveri, cioè d'olio, e di vino.	11 And when he had enclosed them with walls, he placed in them rulers, and storehouses of provisions, that is, of oil and wine.
12 E parimente fece in tutte le città un arsenale di scudi, e di picche, e le fortificò con grandissima cura: e regnò sopra la tribù di Giuda, e di Beniamin.	12 Moreover, in each city he made an armory of shields and spears, and he strengthened them with the utmost diligence. And he ruled over Judah and Benjamin.
13 E i sacerdoti, e i Leviti, che erano in tutto Israele, andarono a lui da tutti i luoghi loro,	13 Then the priests and Levites, who were in all of Israel, came to him from all their settlements,
14 E abbandonando i sobborghi, e tutti i loro beni, passarono dalla parte di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme: perchè Geroboam, e i suoi figliuoli li maltrattavano, affinchè non facessero le funzioni del sacerdozio del Signore.	14 leaving behind their suburbs and possessions, and crossing over to Judah and to Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his followers had cast them out, so that they could not exercise the priestly office to the Lord.
15 Ed egli creò sacerdoti del luoghi eccelsi, e de' demonj, e de' vitelli, che avea fatti.	15 And he appointed for himself priests of high places, and of demons, and of calves that he had made.
16 Ma di tutte le tribù d'Israele tutti quelli, che aveano in cuore di seguire il Signore Dio d'Israele, andavano a Gerusalemme ad offerirvi le loro vittime dinanzi al Signore Dio de' padri loro.	16 Moreover, out of all the tribes of Israel, whosoever would give their heart so that they sought the Lord God of Israel, they went to Jerusalem to immolate their victims before the Lord, the God of their fathers.
17 E fortificarono il regno di Giuda, e sostennero il regno di Roboam figliuolo di Salomone per tre anni: perocché eglino batterono le vie di David, e di Salomone per tre anni.	17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and they confirmed Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, for three years. For they walked in the ways of David and of Solomon, but only for three years.
18 Or Roboamo prese per moglie Mahalath, figliuola di Jerimoth, figliuolo di David: ed anche Abihail figliuola di Eliab, figliuolo d'Isai.	18 Then Rehoboam took as wife Mahalath, the daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and also Abihail, the daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse.
19 La quale gli partorì Jehus, e Somoria, e Zoom.	19 They bore sons for him: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
20 Dopo questa sposò Maacha figliuola di Assalone, la quale gli partorì Abia, ed Ethai, e Ziza e Salomith.	20 And also after her, he married Maacah, the daughter of Absalom, who bore for him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 E Roboam amò Maacha figliuola di Assalone più di tutte le sue mogli, e concubine: perocché egli avea diciotto mogli, e sessanta concubine: e generò ventotto figliuoli, e sessenta figliuole.	21 But Rehoboam loved Maacah, the daughter of Absalom, above all his wives and concubines. For he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines. And he conceived twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
22 Ma ad Abia figliuolo di Maacha diede la preferenza, e lo fece come capo sopra tutti i suoi fratelli: perocché aveva in animo di dargli il regno,	22 Truly, he appointed as the head, Abijah, the son of Maacah, to be the ruler over all his brothers. For he thought to make him king,
23 Perchè egli era più saggio, e più forte di tutti i suoi figliuoli, ì quali stavano qua, e là ai confini di Giuda, e di Beniamin in tutte le città murate, dove dava loro da vivere largamente, e li provvide di molte mogli.	23 since he was wiser and more powerful than all his sons, even in all the regions of Judah and Benjamin, and in all the fortified cities. And he provided them with very much food, and he sought many wives.
