επικαλεσαι δε ει τις σοι υπακουσεται η ει τινα αγγελων αγιων οψη1 Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints.
και γαρ αφρονα αναιρει οργη πεπλανημενον δε θανατοι ζηλος2 Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one.
εγω δε εωρακα αφρονας ριζαν βαλλοντας αλλ' ευθεως εβρωθη αυτων η διαιτα3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately.
πορρω γενοιντο οι υιοι αυτων απο σωτηριας κολαβρισθειησαν δε επι θυραις ησσονων και ουκ εσται ο εξαιρουμενος4 His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them.
α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς5 Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.
ου γαρ μη εξελθη εκ της γης κοπος ουδε εξ ορεων αναβλαστησει πονος6 Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground.
αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται7 Man is born to labour and the bird to fly.
ου μην δε αλλα εγω δεηθησομαι κυριου κυριον δε τον παντων δεσποτην επικαλεσομαι8 Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God:
τον ποιουντα μεγαλα και ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος9 Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number:
τον διδοντα υετον επι την γην αποστελλοντα υδωρ επι την υπ' ουρανον10 Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters:
τον ποιουντα ταπεινους εις υψος και απολωλοτας εξεγειροντα11 Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn.
διαλλασσοντα βουλας πανουργων και ου μη ποιησουσιν αι χειρες αυτων αληθες12 Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun:
ο καταλαμβανων σοφους εν τη φρονησει βουλην δε πολυπλοκων εξεστησεν13 Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:
ημερας συναντησεται αυτοις σκοτος το δε μεσημβρινον ψηλαφησαισαν ισα νυκτι14 They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.
απολοιντο δε εν πολεμω αδυνατος δε εξελθοι εκ χειρος δυναστου15 But he shall save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.
ειη δε αδυνατω ελπις αδικου δε στομα εμφραχθειη16 And to the needy there shall he hope, but iniquity shall draw in her mouth.
μακαριος δε ανθρωπος ον ηλεγξεν ο κυριος νουθετημα δε παντοκρατορος μη απαναινου17 Blessed is the mall whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord:
αυτος γαρ αλγειν ποιει και παλιν αποκαθιστησιν επαισεν και αι χειρες αυτου ιασαντο18 For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal.
εξακις εξ αναγκων σε εξελειται εν δε τω εβδομω ου μη αψηται σου κακον19 In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee.
εν λιμω ρυσεται σε εκ θανατου εν πολεμω δε εκ χειρος σιδηρου λυσει σε20 In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword.
απο μαστιγος γλωσσης σε κρυψει και ου μη φοβηθης απο κακων ερχομενων21 Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh.
αδικων και ανομων καταγελαση απο δε θηριων αγριων ου μη φοβηθης22 In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
θηρες γαρ αγριοι ειρηνευσουσιν σοι23 But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee.
ειτα γνωση οτι ειρηνευσει σου ο οικος η δε διαιτα της σκηνης σου ου μη αμαρτη24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin.
γνωση δε οτι πολυ το σπερμα σου τα δε τεκνα σου εσται ωσπερ το παμβοτανον του αγρου25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth.
ελευση δε εν ταφω ωσπερ σιτος ωριμος κατα καιρον θεριζομενος η ωσπερ θιμωνια αλωνος καθ' ωραν συγκομισθεισα26 Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season.
ιδου ταυτα ουτως εξιχνιασαμεν ταυτα εστιν α ακηκοαμεν συ δε γνωθι σεαυτω ει τι επραξας27 Behold, this is even so, as we have searched oat: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind.
