1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.	1 Or le jeune Samuel servait le Seigneur en présence d'Héli. La parole du Seigneur était alors rare et précieuse, et Dieu ne Se découvrait point clairement.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;	2 Il arriva donc un jour qu'Héli était couché en son lieu ordinaire; ses yeux s'étaient obscurcis et il ne pouvait voir.
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;	3 La lampe de Dieu n'était pas encore éteinte, et Samuel dormait dans le temple du Seigneur, où était l'arche de Dieu.
4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.	4 Et le Seigneur appela Samuel, qui répondit et dit: Me voici.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.	5 Il courut aussitôt à Héli, et lui dit: Me voici, car vous m'avez appelé. Héli lui dit: Je ne vous ai point appelé; retournez et dormez. Et il s'en alla, et il dormit.
6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.	6 Le Seigneur appela encore Samuel. Et Samuel, s'étant levé, alla auprès d'Héli, et lui dit: Me voici, car vous m'avez appelé. Héli lui répondit: Mon fils, je ne vous ai pas appelé; retournez, et dormez.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.	7 Or Samuel ne connaissait pas encore le Seigneur, et la parole du Seigneur ne lui avait pas été révélée.
8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.	8 Le Seigneur appela donc encore pour la troisième fois Samuel, lequel, se levant, alla auprès d'Héli,
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 et lui dit: Me voici, car vous m'avez appelé. Héli reconnut alors que le Seigneur appelait l'enfant; et il dit à Samuel: Allez, et dormez; et si l'on vous appelle encore une fois, répondez: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que votre serviteur écoute. Samuel s'en retourna donc en son lieu et s'endormit.
10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.	10 Le Seigneur vint encore, et Se présenta, et Il appela comme Il avait fait, en le nommant par deux fois: Samuel, Samuel. Samuel lui répondit: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que Votre serviteur Vous écoute.
11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.	11 Et le Seigneur dit à Samuel: Je vais faire en Israël une chose que nul ne pourra entendre sans que ses oreilles ne lui tintent.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.	12 En ce jour-là J'exécuterai tout ce que J'ai dit contre Héli et contre sa maison; Je commencerai et J'achèverai.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.	13 Car Je lui ai prédit que Je punirais à jamais sa maison à cause de son iniquité; parce que sachant que ses fils se conduisaient d'une manière indigne, il ne les a pas repris.
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.	14 C'est pourquoi J'ai juré à la maison d'Héli que l'iniquité de cette maison ne sera jamais expiée, ni par des victimes, ni par des présents.
15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.	15 Or Samuel ayant dormi jusqu'au matin, alla ouvrir les portes de la maison du Seigneur, et il craignait de dire à Héli la vision qu'il avait eue.
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.	16 Héli appela donc Samuel, et lui dit: Samuel, mon fils. Il lui répondit: Me voici.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.	17 Héli lui demanda: Qu'est-ce que le Seigneur vous a dit? Ne me le cachez pas, je vous prie. Que le Seigneur vous traite dans toute sa sévérité, si vous me cachez une seule de toutes les paroles qui vous ont été dites.
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.	18 Samuel lui dit donc tout ce qu'il avait entendu, et il ne lui cacha rien. Héli répondit: Il est le Seigneur; qu'Il fasse ce qui est agréable à Ses yeux.
19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.	19 Or Samuel croissait en âge; le Seigneur était avec lui, et nulle de ses paroles ne tomba par terre.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.	20 Et tout Israël connut, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée, que Samuel était le fidèle prophète du Seigneur.
21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.	21 Le Seigneur continua à apparaître dans Silo; car ce fut à Silo qu'Il Se découvrit à Samuel, et qu'Il lui fit connaître Sa parole. Et ce que Samuel dit à tout Israël fut accompli.
