1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.	1 Chi crede che Gesù è il Cristo è nato da Dio; e chi ama colui che ha generato ama anche chi è stato generato da lui.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.	2 Da questo noi conosciamo che amiamo i figli di Dio: se amiamo Dio e compiamo i suoi comandamenti.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.	3 Questo è l'amore di Dio: osservare i suoi comandamenti; i suoi comandamenti non sono pesanti,
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.	4 poiché chi è nato da Dio vince il mondo e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo: la nostra fede.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?	5 Ma chi è colui che vince il mondo se non chi crede che Gesù è il Figlio di Dio?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.	6 Questi è colui che è venuto con acqua e con sangue: Gesù Cristo; non soltanto con l'acqua, ma con l'acqua e con il sangue. Ed è lo Spirito che ne dà testimonianza, poiché lo Spirito è la verità.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.	7 Poiché sono tre quelli che danno testimonianza:
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.	8 lo Spirito, l'acqua e il sangue, e questi tre sono concordi.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.	9 Se noi riceviamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è più grande. Questa infatti è la testimonianza di Dio: egli ha reso testimonianza a suo Figlio.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.	10 Chi crede nel Figlio di Dio, ha questa testimonianza in sé. Chi non crede in Dio, fa di lui un mentitore, perché non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha dato al Figlio suo.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.	11 E questa è la testimonianza: Dio ci ha dato la vita eterna e questa vita è nel Figlio suo.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.	12 Chi ha il Figlio, ha la vita; chi non ha il Figlio di Dio, non ha la vita.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.	13 Io vi ho scritto queste cose affinché sappiate che voi avete la vita eterna, voi che credete nel nome del Figlio di Dio.
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:	14 Questa è la sicurezza che noi abbiamo in lui: se noi chiediamo qualcosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci ascolta.
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.	15 E se noi sappiamo che egli ci ascolta qualora gli chiediamo qualcosa, sappiamo già di avere da lui tutto ciò che gli abbiamo chiesto.
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.	16 Se uno vede il suo fratello commettere un peccato che non conduce alla morte, preghi e Dio gli darà la vita (come) a coloro che commettono un peccato che non conduce alla morte. Ma vi sono peccati che conducono alla morte; per questi dico di non pregare.
17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.	17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma vi è peccato che non conduce alla morte.
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.	18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è generato da Dio non pecca; ma il generato da Dio lo custodisce, così che il maligno non lo tocca.
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.	19 Sappiamo che noi siamo da Dio mentre il mondo giace tutto in potere del maligno.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.	20 Sappiamo anche che il Figlio di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato l'intelligenza per conoscere Colui che è il Vero. E noi siamo in Colui che è il Vero, nel Figlio suo Gesù Cristo. Questi è il vero Dio e la vita eterna.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.	21 Figli, guardatevi dagli idoli.
