1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.	1 Mindaz, aki hiszi, hogy Jézus a Krisztus, Istentől született. És mindaz, aki szereti azt, aki szült, szereti azt is, aki tőle született.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.	2 Arról ismerjük meg, hogy szeretjük Isten szülötteit, ha Istent szeretjük, és parancsait teljesítjük.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.	3 Mert az az Isten szeretete, hogy parancsait megtartjuk; és az ő parancsai nem nehezek.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.	4 Mert minden, ami Istentől született, legyőzi a világot. Ez az a győzelem, amely legyőzi a világot: a mi hitünk.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?	5 Ki más győzi le a világot, mint aki hiszi, hogy Jézus az Isten Fia?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.	6 Ő az, aki víz és vér által jött, Jézus Krisztus. Nem csupán víz által, hanem víz és vér által. És a Lélek az, aki tanúskodik, ugyanis a Lélek igazság.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.	7 Mert hárman vannak, akik tanúskodnak:
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.	8 a Lélek, a víz és a vér; és ez a három egy.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.	9 Ha az emberek tanúságát elfogadjuk, Isten tanúsága nagyobb. S Isten tanúsága az, hogy tanúságot tett az ő Fiáról.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.	10 Aki hisz Isten Fiában, az magában hordozza Isten tanúságát. Aki nem hisz Istennek, hazugnak tartja őt, mert nem hisz abban a tanúságban, amelyet Isten tett az ő Fiáról.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.	11 A tanúság pedig az, hogy Isten örök életet adott nekünk. És ez az élet az ő Fiában van.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.	12 Aki magáénak mondhatja a Fiút, annak van élete; aki nem mondhatja magáénak Isten Fiát, annak nincs élete.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.	13 Ezeket azért írom nektek, hogy tudjátok: nektek, akik hisztek Isten Fiának nevében, örök életetek van.
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:	14 Abban rejlik a mi iránta való bizalmunk, hogy bármit kérünk az ő akarata szerint, meghallgat minket.
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.	15 S ha tudjuk, hogy meghallgat minket, bármit kérünk is tőle, azt is tudjuk, hogy már a miénk, amit kértünk.
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.	16 Ha valaki látja, hogy a testvére vétkezik, de nem halálos bűnnel, imádkozzon érte, és Isten életet fog adni annak, aki nem halálosan vétkezett. Van halált okozó bűn is; nem erről mondom, hogy valaki könyörögjön érte.
17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.	17 Minden gonoszság bűn, de van halált nem okozó bűn is.
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.	18 Tudjuk, hogy mindaz, aki Istentől született, nem vétkezik, mert az Istentől való születés megőrzi őt, s a gonosz meg nem érinti.
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.	19 Tudjuk, hogy mi Istentől vagyunk, ez az egész világ pedig gonoszságban fetreng.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.	20 S azt is tudjuk, hogy Isten Fia eljött, és értelmet adott nekünk, hogy megismerjük azt, aki Igaz. Mi őbenne vagyunk, aki igaz: az ő Fiában, Jézus Krisztusban. Ő az igaz Isten és az örök élet.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.	21 Gyermekeim, őrizkedjetek a bálványoktól! Ámen.
