1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?	1 D’où viennent vos guerres et vos conflits? D’ici-bas, bien sûr, de vos propres désirs qui mettent la guerre en vous-mêmes.
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.	2 Vous voudriez avoir et vous n’avez pas: alors vous tuez. Vous êtes jaloux et vous n’obtenez pas: alors ce ne sont que guerres et conflits. Mais si vous n’avez pas, c’est que vous ne priez pas.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.	3 Ou bien vous priez mais vous priez mal, et vous n’obtenez rien car vous le dépenseriez pour vos plaisirs.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.	4 Race adultère! Ne savez-vous pas que l’amitié du monde est l’ennemie de Dieu? Qui veut être ami du monde prend parti contre Dieu.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?	5 Ce n’est pas pour rien que l’Écriture dit: L’esprit que Dieu a fait habiter en nous et qui nous donne le meilleur est un esprit jaloux.
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.	6 C’est pourquoi elle dit: Dieu résiste aux orgueilleux et ses dons sont pour les humbles.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.	7 Soumettez-vous donc à Dieu. Résistez au démon et il s’enfuira.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.	8 Allez vers Dieu et il viendra à vous. Lavez vos mains, pécheurs, et purifiez vos cœurs, vous qui ne savez pas vous décider. Lamentez-vous et pleurez.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.	9 Lamentez-vous au lieu de rire, car c’est le temps des larmes et non de la joie.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.	10 Humiliez-vous devant le Seigneur et lui vous relèvera.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.	11 Frères, ne dites pas du mal les uns des autres. Celui qui parle contre son frère et se fait le juge de son frère, parle contre la Loi et se fait juge de la Loi. Mais toi qui juges la Loi, es-tu vraiment le juge ou celui qui doit obéir à la Loi?
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?	12 Un seul est le juge, celui qui a donné la Loi et qui a pouvoir aussi bien pour perdre que pour sauver. Mais toi qui juges le prochain, qui es-tu?
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:	13 À vous le tour, maintenant! Vous dites: "Aujourd’hui, demain, nous partons pour telle ville. Nous y resterons toute l’année pour notre commerce et nous ferons de l’argent.”
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.	14 Mais vous ne savez rien du lendemain; vivrez-vous encore? Qu’êtes vous? Une vapeur qu’on voit quelques instants avant qu’elle disparaisse.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.	15 Pourquoi ne dites-vous pas: "Voilà ce que nous ferons si le Seigneur le veut et nous garde en vie.”
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.	16 Mais au lieu de cela vous vous vantez: cette façon d’être sûr est toujours mauvaise.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.	17 Celui qui sait où est le bien et ne le fait pas, n’est pas sans péché.
