1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,	1 Paul, apôtre du Christ Jésus par décision de Dieu, et Timothée, votre frère,
2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	2 saluent les saints et croyants qui sont à Colosses, leurs frères dans le Christ: recevez de Dieu notre Père la grâce et la paix!
3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,	3 À tout moment nous prions pour vous et nous rendons grâces à Dieu, Père de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur,
4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,	4 car nous avons eu des nouvelles de votre foi et de votre amour pour tous les saints dans le Christ Jésus;
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;	5 et c’est le fruit de votre espérance, car vous savez ce qui vous est réservé dans les cieux. Vous l’avez appris de la Parole de vérité, cet évangile
6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:	6 qui est arrivé jusqu’à vous. Partout dans le monde il s’étend et donne ses fruits comme on le voit chez vous, depuis le jour où vous avez connu en toute vérité le don de Dieu.
7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;	7 Vous l’avez appris d’Épaphras, notre cher compagnon de service, fidèle administrateur du Christ en notre nom,
8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.	8 et c’est lui, bien sûr, qui m’a donné des nouvelles de votre amour dans l’Esprit.
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;	9 Depuis le jour où nous l’avons su, nous ne cessons de prier pour vous, et nous demandons que vous ayez la pleine connaissance de la volonté de Dieu, grâce aux dons de sagesse et d’intelligence spirituelle;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;	10 que votre conduite soit digne du Seigneur et lui plaise; que vous sachiez porter du fruit: toutes vos bonnes actions, et progresser dans la connaissance de Dieu;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;	11 que vous deveniez forts dans tous les sens du mot, par l’effet de sa Gloire, pour supporter comme pour être patients, sans perdre la joie;
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:	12 et que vous rendiez grâces au Père qui vous a rendus capables de partager l’héritage avec les saints dans la lumière.
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:	13 Il nous a arrachés au pouvoir des Ténèbres, et nous a fait passer dans le royaume du Fils qu’il aime.
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:	14 En lui nous sommes rachetés et pardonnés de nos péchés.
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:	15 Il est l’image du Dieu qu’on ne peut voir, et pour toute créature il est le premier-né.
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:	16 Car en lui tout a été créé, dans les cieux et sur la terre, l’univers visible et invisible, Trônes, Seigneurs, Principautés, Autorités… Tout a été créé grâce à lui et pour lui,
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.	17 il était là avant tous et tout se tient en lui.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.	18 Il est aussi la tête du corps, de l’Église, car il est le principe, revenu le premier d’entre les morts, afin d’occuper, en tout, la première place.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;	19 Car il a plu à Dieu que “le tout” se retrouve en lui
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.	20 et que tout soit réconcilié avec Dieu grâce à lui, après que le sang de sa croix ait rétabli la paix, ce qui est sur la terre, et ce qui est dans les cieux.
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled	21 Auparavant vous restiez à l’écart et vos œuvres mauvaises faisaient de vous des opposants.
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:	22 Mais maintenant vous avez été réconciliés, grâce à la mort du Christ dans son être de chair, et vous êtes devant lui saints, sans tache, irréprochables.
23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;	23 Mais il faut que vous restiez fermes dans la foi, solides sur vos bases. Ne déviez pas de l’espérance contenue dans l’évangile que vous avez reçu, qui a été proclamé à toute créature sous le ciel, et dont moi, Paul, j’ai reçu la charge.
24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:	24 Et maintenant, mes souffrances pour vous sont ma joie; je complète dans ma chair ce qui manque encore aux épreuves du Christ pour son corps qui est l’Église.
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;	25 J’en suis l’administrateur, du fait que Dieu m’a confié la charge de mettre en œuvre chez vous le projet de Dieu,
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:	26 son plan mystérieux caché depuis des siècles et des siècles. Ce secret de Dieu vient d’être révélé à ses saints.
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:	27 Il a voulu leur faire connaître les richesses et la gloire que ce projet réservait aux païens: le Christ est en vous, et il vous fait espérer la Gloire.
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:	28 C’est ce que nous disons et redisons quand nous reprenons qui que ce soit et lui enseignons la sagesse, car nous voulons que tout homme devienne parfait dans le Christ.
29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.	29 C’est là mon travail et je m’y dépense avec une énergie qui me vient de lui et agit puissamment en moi.
