1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.	1 Quant aux choses dont vous m'avez écrit, il est bon pour l'homme de ne pas toucher de femme.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.	2 Toutefois, pour éviter l'impudicité, que chaque homme ait sa femme, et que chaque femme ait son mari.
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.	3 Que le mari rende à sa femme ce qu'il lui doit, et pareillement la femme à son mari.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.	4 Le corps de la femme n'est pas en sa puissance, mais en celle du mari; de même, le corps du mari n'est pas en sa puissance, mais en celle de sa femme.
5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.	5 Ne refusez pas d'être l'un à l'autre, si ce n'est d'un commun accord, et pour un temps, afin de vaquer à la prière; et ensuite revenez ensemble, de peur que Satan ne vous tente par votre incontinence.
6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.	6 Je dis cela par concession; je n'en fais pas un ordre.
7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.	7 Car je voudrais que vous fussiez tous comme moi; mais chacun a reçu de Dieu son don particulier, l'un d'une manière, et l'autre d'une autre.
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.	8 Mais je dis à ceux qui ne sont pas mariés et aux veuves: Il leur est bon de demeurer ainsi, comme moi.
9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.	9 S'ils ne peuvent garder la continence, qu'ils se marient; car il vaut mieux se marier que de brûler.
10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:	10 A ceux qui sont mariés, j'ordonne, non pas moi, mais le Seigneur, que la femme ne se sépare pas de son mari;
11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.	11 si elle en est séparée, qu'elle demeure sans se marier, ou qu'elle se réconcilie avec son mari; et que le mari ne répudie point sa femme.
12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.	12 Aux autres, ce n'est pas le Seigneur, c'est moi qui dis: Si un frère a une femme infidèle, et qu'elle consente à habiter avec lui, qu'il ne la répudie pas.
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.	13 Et si une femme fidèle a un mari infidèle, et qu'il consente à habiter avec elle, qu'elle ne le quitte pas.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.	14 Car le mari infidèle est sanctifié par la femme fidèle, et la femme infidèle est sanctifiée par le mari fidèle; autrement vos enfants seraient impurs, tandis que maintenant ils sont saints.
15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.	15 Mais si la partie infidèle se sépare, qu'elle se sépare; car le frère ou la soeur ne sont pas asservis en ce cas; mais Dieu nous a appelés à la paix.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?	16 Car que sais-tu, femme, si tu sauveras ton mari? Et que sais-tu, mari, si tu sauveras ta femme?
17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.	17 Mais que chacun se conduise selon la part que le Seigneur lui a faite, et selon que Dieu l'a appelé; et c'est ce que j'enseigne dans toutes les églises.
18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.	18 Quelqu'un a-t-il été appelé à la foi étant circoncis? qu'il ne dissimule pas sa circoncision. Quelqu'un a-t-il été appelé étant incirconcis? qu'il ne se fasse pas circoncire.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.	19 La circoncision n'est rien, et l'incirconcision n'est rien; mais ce qui importe, c'est l'observation des commandements de Dieu.
20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.	20 Que chacun demeure dans l'état où il était lorsque Dieu l'a appelé.
21 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.	21 As-tu été appelé étant esclave? ne t'en mets point en peine; mais quand même tu pourrais devenir libre, profites-en plutôt.
22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.	22 Car celui qui, étant esclave, a été appelé au service du Seigneur, est l'affranchi du Seigneur; et de même, celui qui a été appelé étant libre, est l'esclave du Christ.
23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.	23 Vous avez été achetés à un grand prix; ne devenez pas esclaves des hommes.
24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.	24 Que chacun, mes frères, demeure devant Dieu dans l'état où il a été appelé.
25 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.	25 Pour ce qui est des vierges, je n'ai pas de commandement du Seigneur; mais je donne un conseil, comme ayant obtenu la miséricorde du Seigneur, afin d'être fidèle.
26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.	26 J'estime donc qu'il est bon, à cause de la nécessité du temps présent, qu'il est bon, dis-je, pour l'homme d'être ainsi.
27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.	27 Es-tu lié à une femme? ne cherche pas à te délier. N'es-tu point lié à une femme? ne cherche pas de femme.
28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.	28 Si pourtant tu prends une femme, tu ne pèches pas. Mais ces personnes éprouveront les tribulations de la chair; et je voudrais vous les épargner.
29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;	29 Voici donc, frères, ce que je dis: Le temps est court; ce qui reste à faire, c'est que ceux qui ont des femmes soient comme ne possédant pas;
30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;	30 et ceux qui pleurent, comme ne pleurant pas; et ceux qui se réjouissent, comme ne se réjouissant pas; et ceux qui achètent, comme ne possédant pas;
31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.	31 et ceux qui usent de ce monde, comme n'en usant pas; car la figure de ce monde passe.
32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:	32 Or je voudrais que vous fussiez sans inquiétude. Celui qui n'est pas marié s'inquiète des choses du Seigneur, des moyens de plaire à Dieu.
33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.	33 Mais celui qui est marié s'inquiète des choses du monde, des moyens de plaire à sa femme; et il se trouve partagé.
34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.	34 De même la femme qui n'est pas mariée et la vierge pensent aux choses du Seigneur, afin d'être saintes de corps et d'esprit; mais celle qui est mariée pense aux choses du monde, aux moyens de plaire à son mari.
35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.	35 Or je vous dis cela dans votre intérêt, non pour vous tendre un piège, mais pour vous porter à ce qui est bienséant, et qui vous donnera la facilité de prier Dieu sans empêchement.
36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.	36 Mais si quelqu'un pense que c'est pour lui un déshonneur que sa fille, déjà plus qu'adulte, ne soit pas mariée, et qu'il doit la marier, qu'il fasse ce qu'il voudra; il ne péchera point si elle se marie.
37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.	37 Mais celui qui a fermement décidé dans son coeur, sans être pressé par la nécessité, et ayant le plein usage de sa volonté, et qui a jugé dans son coeur de conserver sa fille vierge, fait une bonne oeuvre.
38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.	38 Ainsi celui qui marie sa fille fait bien; et celui qui ne la marie pas fait mieux.
39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.	39 La femme est liée à la loi aussi longtemps que son mari est vivant; mais si son mari meurt, elle est libre. Qu'elle se marie à qui elle voudra, pourvu que ce soit selon le Seigneur.
40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.	40 Cependant elle sera plus heureuse si elle demeure comme elle est, suivant mon conseil; et je pense que j'ai, moi aussi, l'Esprit de Dieu.
