KING JAMES BIBLENOVA VULGATA
And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,1 Loquentibus autem illis ad populum, supervenerunt eis sa cerdotes etmagistratus templi et sadducaei,
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.2 dolentes quod docerent populum etannuntiarent in Iesu resurrectionem ex mortuis;
And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.3 et iniecerunt in eos manus etposuerunt in custodiam in crastinum; erat enim iam vespera.
Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.4 Multi autem eorum,qui audierant verbum, crediderunt; et factus est numerus virorum quinque milia.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,5 Factum est autem in crastinum, ut congregarentur principes eorum et senioreset scribae in Ierusalem,
And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.6 et Annas princeps sacerdotum et Caiphas et Ioannes etAlexander et quotquot erant de genere sacerdotali,
And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?7 et statuentes eos in mediointerrogabant: “ In qua virtute aut in quo nomine fecistis hoc vos? ”.
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,8 Tunc Petrus repletus Spiritu Sancto dixit ad eos: “ Principes populi etseniores,
If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;9 si nos hodie diiudicamur in benefacto hominis infirmi, in quo istesalvus factus est,
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.10 notum sit omnibus vobis et omni plebi Israel quia innomine Iesu Christi Nazareni, quem vos crucifixistis, quem Deus suscitavit amortuis, in hoc iste astat coram vobis sanus.
This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.11 Hic est
lapis, qui reprobatus est a vobis aedificatoribus,
qui factus est in caput anguli.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.12 Et non est in alio aliquo salus, nec enim nomen aliud est sub caelo datum inhominibus, in quo oportet nos salvos fieri ”.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.13 Videntes autem Petri fiduciam et Ioannis, et comperto quod homines essentsine litteris et idiotae, admirabantur et cognoscebant eos quoniam cum Iesufuerant;
And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.14 hominem quoque videntes stantem cum eis, qui curatus fuerat, nihilpoterant contradicere.
But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,15 Iubentes autem eos foras extra concilium secedere,conferebant ad invicem
Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.16 dicentes: “ Quid faciemus hominibus istis? Quoniamquidem notum signum factum est per eos omnibus habitantibus in Ierusalemmanifestum, et non possumus negare;
But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.17 sed ne amplius divulgetur in populum,comminemur eis, ne ultra loquantur in nomine hoc ulli hominum ”.
And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.18 Etvocantes eos denuntiaverunt, ne omnino loquerentur neque docerent in nomineIesu.
But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.19 Petrus vero et Ioannes respondentes dixerunt ad eos: “ Si iustum estin conspectu Dei vos potius audire quam Deum, iudicate;
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.20 non enim possumusnos, quae vidimus et audivimus, non loqui ”.
So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.21 At illi ultra comminantesdimiserunt eos, nequaquam invenientes, quomodo punirent eos, propter populum,quia omnes glorificabant Deum in eo, quod acciderat;
For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.22 annorum enim eratamplius quadraginta homo, in quo factum erat signum istud sanitatis.
And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.23 Dimissi autem venerunt ad suos et annuntiaverunt quanta ad eos principessacerdotum et seniores dixissent.
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:24 Qui cum audissent, unanimiter levaveruntvocem ad Deum et dixerunt: “ Domine, tu, qui fecisti caelum et terram et mareet omnia, quae in eis sunt,
Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?25 qui Spiritu Sancto per os patris nostri Davidpueri tui dixisti:
“Quare fremuerunt gentes,
et populi meditati sunt inania?
The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.26 Astiterunt reges terrae,
et principes convenerunt in unum
adversus Dominum et adversus Christum eius”.
For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,27 Convenerunt enim vere in civitate ista adversus sanctum puerum tuum Iesum,quem unxisti, Herodes et Pontius Pilatus cum gentibus et populis Israel
For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.28 facere, quaecumque manus tua et consilium praedestinavit fieri.
And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,29 Et nunc,Domine, respice in minas eorum et da servis tuis cum omni fiducia loqui verbumtuum,
By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.30 in eo quod manum tuam extendas ad sanitatem et signa et prodigiafacienda per nomen sancti pueri tui Iesu ”.
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.31 Et cum orassent, motus est locus, in quo erant congregati, et repleti suntomnes Sancto Spiritu et loquebantur verbum Dei cum fiducia.
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.32 Multitudinis autem credentium erat cor et anima una, nec quisquam eorum, quaepossidebant, aliquid suum esse dicebat, sed erant illis omnia communia.
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.33 Etvirtute magna reddebant apostoli testimonium resurrectionis Domini Iesu, etgratia magna erat super omnibus illis.
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,34 Neque enim quisquam egens erat interillos; quotquot enim possessores agrorum aut domorum erant, vendentes afferebantpretia eorum, quae vendebant,
And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.35 et ponebant ante pedes apostolorum; dividebaturautem singulis, prout cuique opus erat.
And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,36 Ioseph autem, qui cognominatus estBarnabas ab apostolis — quod est interpretatum filius Consolationis —Levites, Cyprius genere,
Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.37 cum haberet agrum, vendidit et attulit pecuniam etposuit ante pedes apostolorum.
