1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,	1 Ils n’avaient pas fini de parler au peuple quand ils furent pris à partie par les prêtres, le chef de la police du Temple et les Saducéens.
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.	2 Tout ce monde était très contrarié parce que les apôtres affirmaient la résurrection des morts à propos de Jésus.
3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.	3 Ils furent arrêtés et mis sous les verrous en attendant le lendemain, car il était déjà tard.
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.	4 Mais beaucoup de ceux qui avaient écouté leurs paroles crurent. Le nombre des hommes s’éleva à 5 000.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,	5 Le lendemain ils furent appelés par les chefs, les Anciens et les maîtres de la Loi de Jérusalem.
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.	6 Le grand prêtre Anne était là, et aussi Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre et tous ceux qui étaient de la famille des grands prêtres.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?	7 Ils firent avancer les apôtres au milieu d’eux et les interrogèrent: "Avec quelle force avez-vous fait cela, vous? Avec quelle puissance supérieure?”
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,	8 Alors Pierre, rempli de l’Esprit Saint, leur dit ceci:
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;	9 "Chefs du peuple et Anciens, on nous demande aujourd’hui des explications pour avoir guéri un infirme. Comment a-t-il été rétabli?
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.	10 Sachez-le tous, et avec vous tout le peuple d’Israël: c’est grâce au Nom de Jésus de Nazareth, le Messie que vous avez crucifié et que Dieu a relevé d’entre les morts.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.	11 Il est la pierre dont les constructeurs, c’est-à-dire vous, n’ont pas voulu, et qui est devenue la pierre d’angle.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.	12 Le salut ne se trouve en aucun autre. Aucun autre Nom sous le ciel n’a été donné aux hommes par lequel nous devrions être sauvés.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.	13 Tous purent apprécier l’assurance de Pierre et de Jean; ils étaient étonnés, voyant que c’étaient des hommes sans études ni préparation. Mais, on le savait, ils avaient été avec Jésus.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.	14 Les chefs voyaient debout à côté d’eux l’homme qui avait été guéri, de sorte qu’ils ne pouvaient rien dire.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,	15 Ils donnèrent donc l’ordre de les faire sortir de la salle du Conseil pendant qu’eux-mêmes délibéraient.
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.	16 Ils se posèrent la question: "Qu’est-ce que nous allons faire avec ces hommes? Pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem il est clair qu’un miracle peu ordinaire s’est réalisé par leurs mains, et nous ne pouvons pas le nier.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.	17 Empêchons cependant que cela fasse du bruit dans le peuple: faisons-leur des menaces pour le cas où ils proclameraient encore ce nom devant qui que ce soit.”
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.	18 Ils firent donc rappeler les apôtres et ils leur dirent de façon péremptoire de ne donner aucun enseignement au nom de Jésus et de ne pas le nommer.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.	19 Alors Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: "Dites-nous s’il est meilleur devant Dieu de vous obéir à vous plutôt qu’à Dieu.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.	20 Nous ne pouvons pas ne pas parler de ce que nous avons vu et entendu.”
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.	21 On les menaça de nouveau, puis on les relâcha. On ne voyait pas comment les punir à cause du peuple, car tous rendaient gloire à Dieu à la suite de cet événement:
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.	22 l’homme qui avait bénéficié de cette guérison miraculeuse était âgé en effet de plus de 40 ans.
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.	23 Une fois relâchés, ils se rendirent auprès des leurs et racontèrent tout ce que les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:	24 En entendant cela, les autres élevèrent la voix vers Dieu avec un bel ensemble. Ils dirent: "Maître, c’est toi qui as fait le ciel et la terre avec tout ce qui s’y trouve,
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?	25 et tu as dit par la bouche de notre père David, ton serviteur: Pourquoi tout ce tapage des nations? Voyez ces peuples et leur projet fou.
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.	26 Les rois de la terre se sont alliés, les grands chefs se sont soulevés contre le Seigneur et contre son Christ.
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,	27 C’est bien vrai qu’il y a eu un complot dans cette ville contre ton saint serviteur Jésus que tu avais consacré: Hérode et Ponce Pilate, les païens et les peuples d’Israël.
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.	28 Ils n’ont fait que réaliser ce que toi-même avais décidé et préparé.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,	29 “Maintenant donc, Seigneur, vois leurs menaces et donne à tes serviteurs de dire ta parole avec assurance,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.	30 alors que tu frappes un grand coup et que surviennent des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges par le Nom de Jésus, ton saint serviteur.”
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.	31 À ce moment de leur prière, le sol trembla là où ils étaient réunis. Tous furent remplis de l’Esprit Saint et ils se mirent à proclamer la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.	32 La multitude des croyants n’avait qu’un cœur et une âme; aucun d’eux ne considérait comme sien ce qui lui appartenait, mais ils mettaient tout en commun.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.	33 Avec beaucoup de force les apôtres rendaient témoignage à la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus: c’était pour tous un temps de grâce exceptionnel.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,	34 Aucun d’entre eux n’était dans le besoin, car tous ceux qui avaient des champs, des maisons, les vendaient et apportaient l’argent de la vente.
35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.	35 Ils le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres et on le répartissait selon les besoins de chacun.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,	36 C’est ce que fit Joseph, un Lévite originaire de Chypre que les apôtres surnommèrent Barnabé, c’est-à-dire: Notre consolation.
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.	37 Il vendit un champ dont il était propriétaire, apporta le prix de la vente et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
