1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,	1 Amíg ők a néphez beszéltek, odajöttek a papok, a templomőrség parancsnoka és a szaddúceusok.
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.	2 Ezek bosszankodtak, hogy tanítják a népet, és hirdetik a halálból való feltámadást Jézusban.
3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.	3 Kezet emeltek tehát rájuk, és őrizetbe vették őket másnapig, mert már esteledett.
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.	4 De azok közül sokan, akik az igét hallgatták, hittek, úgyhogy a férfiak száma elérte az ötezret.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,	5 Történt pedig másnap, hogy a vezetőembereik, a vének és az írástudók összegyűltek Jeruzsálemben,
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.	6 velük Annás főpap és Kaifás is, valamint János és Alexander, és ahányan csak voltak a főpapi nemzetségből.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?	7 Miután középre állították őket, megkérdezték: »Milyen hatalommal vagy kinek a nevében tettétek ezt?«
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,	8 Ekkor Péter Szentlélekkel eltelve így szólt hozzájuk: »Népünk vezetői és ti vének, halljátok!
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;	9 Ti ma felelősségre vontok minket, mert jót tettünk egy beteg emberrel, hogy megtudjátok, hogyan lett újra egészséges.
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.	10 Vegyétek hát tudomásul mindnyájan, ti és Izrael egész népe, hogy a mi Urunknak, a Názáreti Jézus Krisztusnak neve által, akit ti keresztre feszítettetek, akit Isten feltámasztott a halálból: őáltala áll ez itt előttetek egészségesen.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.	11 Ez az a kő, amelyet ti, az építők, elvetettetek, s amely szegletkő lett;
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.	12 és nincs üdvösség senki másban, mert más név nem is adatott az embereknek az ég alatt, amelyben üdvözülnünk kell.«
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.	13 Amikor látták Péter és János állhatatosságát, és megtudták, hogy írástudatlan és tanulatlan emberek, elcsodálkoztak, és rájuk ismertek, hogy Jézussal voltak.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.	14 Mivel azonban látták, hogy a meggyógyult ember is mellettük áll, semmiben sem mondhattak ellent.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,	15 Megparancsolták tehát nekik, hogy menjenek ki a gyűlésből, azután így tanakodtak egymás között:
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.	16 »Mitévők legyünk ezekkel az emberekkel? Hogy csakugyan Jeruzsálem összes lakója előtt ismeretes csodajelet műveltek, az nyilvánvaló, és nem tagadhatjuk.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.	17 Nehogy azonban még tovább terjedjen a híre a nép között, fenyegessük meg őket, hogy ne beszéljenek többé senkinek se ennek a nevében.«
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.	18 Azután beszólították őket, és megparancsolták, hogy egyáltalán ne beszéljenek, és ne tanítsanak Jézus nevében.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.	19 Péter és János azonban azt felelték nekik: »Ítéljétek meg ti, vajon helyes volna-e Isten színe előtt, ha inkább hallgatnánk rátok, mint Istenre!
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.	20 Hisz lehetetlen nekünk, hogy el ne beszéljük, amiket láttunk és hallottunk!«
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.	21 Azok erre újra megfenyegették, majd elbocsátották őket, mivel nem találtak módot arra, hogy megbüntessék őket, a nép miatt, mert mindenki dicsőítette Istent azért, ami az emberrel történt.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.	22 Hiszen több, mint negyven éves volt az, akivel a gyógyulásnak ez a csodajele történt.
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.	23 Elbocsátásuk után övéikhez mentek, és hírül vitték nekik, hogy mi mindent mondtak nekik a főpapok és a vének.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:	24 Mikor azok meghallották ezt, egy szívvel-lélekkel így fohászkodtak Istenhez: »Urunk, te vagy az, aki ‘alkottad az eget és a földet, a tengert és mindent, ami bennük van’ ,
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?	25 aki Dávidnak, a mi atyánknak, a te szolgádnak szájával, a Szentlélek által azt mondtad: ‘Miért acsarkodnak a nemzetek s terveznek hiúságokat a népek?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.	26 A föld királyai felkeltek, egybegyűltek mind a fejedelmek az Úr ellen s az ő Fölkentje ellen’ .
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,	27 Mert valóban egybegyűltek ebben a városban a te szent Fiad, Jézus ellen, akit fölkentél: Heródes és Poncius Pilátus a pogányokkal és Izrael népeivel,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.	28 hogy végrehajtsák, amiről kezed és akaratod elhatározta, hogy megtörténjék.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,	29 Most tehát, Urunk, tekints fenyegetéseikre, s add meg szolgáidnak, hogy teljes bizodalommal hirdessék igédet.
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.	30 Te pedig nyújtsd ki kezedet gyógyításokra, hogy jelek és csodák történjenek szent Fiadnak, Jézusnak neve által.«
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.	31 Miután így imádkoztak, megremegett a hely, ahol egybegyűltek. Mindnyájan beteltek Szentlélekkel, s bátran hirdették Isten igéjét.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.	32 A hívek sokaságának pedig egy volt a szíve-lelke. Egyikük sem mondott semmit sem a magáénak a birtokából, hanem mindenük közös volt.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.	33 Az apostolok pedig nagy erővel tettek tanúságot Urunknak, Jézus Krisztusnak feltámadásáról; és bőséges volt a kegyelem mindnyájukban.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,	34 Nem is volt közöttük senki szűkölködő, mert mindazok, akiknek földje vagy háza volt, eladták, s az eladott javak árát elhozták,
35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.	35 és az apostolok lábához tették. Mindenkinek annyit osztottak ki, amennyire kinek-kinek szüksége volt.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,	36 Így József, a ciprusi származású levita, aki az apostoloktól a Barnabás melléknevet kapta – ennek jelentése: Vigasztalás fia –,
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.	37 mivel szántóföldje volt, eladta azt, az árát pedig elhozta, és letette az apostolok lábához.
