Acts of the Apostles 13

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 Il y avait dans l'Eglise établie à Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs: Barnabé, Syméon appeléNiger, Lucius de Cyrène, Manaën, ami d'enfance d'Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.	2 Or un jour, tandis qu'ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur et jeûnaient, l'Esprit Saint dit: "Mettez-moidonc à part Barnabé et Saul en vue de l'oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés."
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.	3 Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les laissèrent à leur mission.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.	4 Eux donc, envoyés en mission par le Saint Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, d'où ils firent voile pourChypre.
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.	5 Arrivés à Salamine, ils se mirent à annoncer la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ilsavaient avec eux Jean comme auxiliaire.
6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:	6 Ayant traversé toute l'île jusqu'à Paphos, ils trouvèrent là un magicien, faux prophète juif, nomméBar-Jésus,
7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.	7 qui était de l'entourage du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme avisé. Ce dernier fit appeler Barnabé etSaul, désireux d'entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.	8 Mais Elymas le magicien - ainsi se traduit son nom - leur faisait opposition, cherchant à détourner leproconsul de la foi.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,	9 Alors Saul - appelé aussi Paul --, rempli de l'Esprit Saint, le fixa du regard
10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?	10 et lui dit: "Etre rempli de toutes les astuces et de toutes les scélératesses, fils du diable, ennemi detoute justice, ne cesseras-tu donc pas de rendre tortueuses les voies du Seigneur qui sont droites?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.	11 Voici à présent que la main du Seigneur est sur toi. Tu vas devenir aveugle, et pour un temps tu neverras plus le soleil." A l'instant même, obscurité et ténèbres s'abattirent sur lui, et il tournait de tous côtés,cherchant quelqu'un pour le conduire.
12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.	12 Alors, voyant ce qui s'était passé, le proconsul embrassa la foi, vivement frappé par la doctrine duSeigneur.
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.	13 De Paphos, où ils s'embarquèrent, Paul et ses compagnons gagnèrent Pergé, en Pamphylie. MaisJean les quitta pour retourner à Jérusalem.
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.	14 Quant à eux, poussant au-delà de Pergé, ils arrivèrent à Antioche de Pisidie. Le jour du sabbat, ilsentrèrent à la synagogue et s'assirent.
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.	15 Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur envoyèrent dire: "Frères,si vous avez quelque parole d'encouragement à dire au peuple, parlez."
16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.	16 Paul alors se leva, fit signe de la main et dit: "Hommes d'Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.	17 Le Dieu de ce peuple, le Dieu d'Israël élut nos pères et fit grandir ce peuple durant son exil en terred'Egypte. Puis, en déployant la force de son bras, il les en fit sortir
18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.	18 et, durant 40 ans environ, il les entoura de soins au désert.
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.	19 Ensuite, après avoir exterminé sept nations dans la terre de Canaan, il les mit en possession de leurpays:
20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.	20 450 ans environ. Après quoi, il leur donna des juges, jusqu'au prophète Samuel.
21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.	21 Par la suite, ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin: 40ans.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.	22 Après l'avoir écarté, Dieu suscita pour eux David comme roi. C'est à lui qu'il a rendu cetémoignage: J'ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, un homme selon mon coeur, qui accomplira toutes mes volontés.
23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:	23 C'est de sa descendance que, suivant sa promesse, Dieu a suscité pour Israël Jésus comme Sauveur.
24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.	24 Jean, le précurseur, avait préparé son arrivée en proclamant à l'adresse de tout le peuple d'Israël unbaptême de repentance.
25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.	25 Au moment de terminer sa course, Jean disait: Celui que vous croyez que je suis, je ne le suis pas;mais voici venir après moi celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la sandale.
26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.	26 "Frères, vous les enfants de la race d'Abraham et vous ici présents qui craignez Dieu, c'est à vousque ce message de salut a été envoyé.
27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.	27 En effet, les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs chefs ont accompli sans le savoir les paroles desprophètes qu'on lit chaque sabbat.
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.	28 Sans trouver en lui aucun motif de mort, ils l'ont condamné et ont demandé à Pilate de le faire périr.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.	29 Et lorsqu'ils eurent accompli tout ce qui était écrit de lui, ils le descendirent du gibet et le mirent autombeau.
30 But God raised him from the dead:	30 Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité;
31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.	31 pendant de nombreux jours, il est apparu à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem,ceux-là mêmes qui sont maintenant ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,	32 "Et nous, nous vous annonçons la Bonne Nouvelle: la promesse faite à nos pères,
33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.	33 Dieu l'a accomplie en notre faveur à nous, leurs enfants: il a ressuscité Jésus. Ainsi est-il écrit danslesActes Psaumes: Tu es mon fils, moi-même aujourd'hui je t'ai engendré.
34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.	34 Que Dieu l'ait ressuscité des morts et qu'il ne doive plus retourner à la corruption, c'est bien ce qu'ilavait déclaré: Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, celles qui sont dignes de foi.
35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.	35 C'est pourquoi il dit ailleurs encore: Tu ne laisseras pas ton Saint voir la corruption.
36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:	36 Or David, après avoir en son temps servi les desseins de Dieu, est mort, a été réuni à ses pères et avu la corruption.
37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.	37 Celui que Dieu a ressuscité, lui, n'a pas vu la corruption.
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:	38 "Sachez-le donc, frères, c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée. L'entièrejustification que vous n'avez pu obtenir par la Loi de Moïse,
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.	39 c'est par lui que quiconque croit l'obtient.
40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;	40 "Prenez donc garde que n'arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes:
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.	41 Regardez, contempteurs, soyez dans la stupeur et disparaissez! Parce que de vos jours je vaisaccomplir une oeuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous la racontait."
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.	42 Et, à leur sortie, on les invitait à parler encore du même sujet le sabbat suivant.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.	43 Après que l'assemblée se fut séparée, nombre de Juifs et de prosélytes qui adoraient Dieu suivirentPaul et Barnabé, et ceux-ci, dans leurs entretiens, les engageaient à rester fidèles à la grâce de Dieu.
44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.	44 Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s'assembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.	45 A la vue de cette foule, les Juifs furent remplis de jalousie, et ils répliquaient par des blasphèmesaux paroles de Paul.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.	46 S'enhardissant alors, Paul et Barnabé déclarèrent: "C'était à vous d'abord qu'il fallait annoncer laparole de Dieu. Puisque vous la repoussez et ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, eh bien! nous noustournons vers les païens.
47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.	47 Car ainsi nous l'a ordonné le Seigneur: Je t'ai établi lumière des nations, pour que tu portes le salutjusqu'aux extrémités de la terre."
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.	48 Tout joyeux à ces mots, les païens se mirent à glorifier la parole du Seigneur, et tous ceux-làembrassèrent la foi, qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle.
49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.	49 Ainsi la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans toute la région.
50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.	50 Mais les Juifs montèrent la tête aux dames de condition qui adoraient Dieu ainsi qu'aux notables dela ville; ils suscitèrent de la sorte une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé et les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.	51 Ceux-ci, secouant contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, se rendirent à Iconium.
52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.	52 Quant aux disciples, ils étaient remplis de joie et de l'Esprit Saint.
