1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 Il y avait à Antioche, dans l’Église qui y était établie, des prophètes et des docteurs: Barnabé, Siméon surnommé le Noir, Lucius et Cyrénius, Manahem, qui avait été élevé avec le tétrarque Hérode, et Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.	2 Au cours d’une liturgie qu’ils célébraient pour le Seigneur, avec un jeûne, l’Esprit Saint dit ceci: "Séparez-moi Barnabé et Saul pour l’œuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés.”
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.	3 Alors on fit un jeûne, on se mit en prière et on leur imposa les mains, après quoi ils s’en allèrent.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.	4 Les voilà donc envoyés par l’Esprit Saint. Ils descendirent à Séleucie et de là firent voile vers Chypre.
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.	5 Débarqués à Salamine, ils commencèrent d’annoncer la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs; Jean leur servait d’auxiliaire.
6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:	6 Parcourant l’île entière jusqu’à Paphos, ils tombèrent sur un magicien juif, un soi-disant prophète du nom de Barjésus.
7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.	7 Cet homme s’accrochait au gouverneur Sergius Paulus, un homme ouvert. Celui-ci fit appeler Barnabé et Saul, car il voulait entendre la parole de Dieu,
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.	8 mais l’autre se mit en travers. L’Élymas (c’était son nom, qui signifie le Mage) s’efforçait de détourner de la foi le gouverneur.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,	9 Alors Saul, qui n’est autre que Paul, le fixa du regard, rempli de l’Esprit Saint.
10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?	10 Il lui dit: "Fils du diable, ennemi de tout ce qui est juste, tu es sans scrupules et tu ne fais que tromper: tu ne cesses de fausser les chemins droits du Seigneur.
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.	11 Mais déjà vient sur toi la main du Seigneur et tu vas te retrouver aveugle! Pour un temps tu ne verras plus la lumière du soleil.” À l’instant même tombèrent sur lui ténèbres et nuit obscure, et il tournait en rond, cherchant une main pour le conduire.
12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.	12 À la suite de cet incident, le gouverneur eut la foi. Il était très impressionné par la doctrine du Seigneur.
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.	13 Le groupe de Paul partit à la voile de Paphos; ils arrivèrent à Pergé de Pamphylie. Puis Jean se sépara d’eux et revint à Jérusalem
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.	14 tandis qu’eux-mêmes traversaient le pays depuis Pergé et arrivaient à Antioche de Pisidie. Là, le jour du sabbat, ils entrèrent à la synagogue et prirent un siège.
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.	15 Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue les font appeler. “Frères, leur disent-ils, si vous avez pour l’assemblée quelques paroles d’encouragement, parlez.
16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.	16 Alors Paul se lève, fait un signe de la main et prend la parole: "Écoutez-moi, Israélites, et vous aussi adorateurs de Dieu!
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.	17 Le Dieu de ce peuple, le Dieu d’Israël, avait choisi nos pères. Il a fait que le peuple se multiplie durant son séjour en Égypte; puis il les en a fait sortir à coups de prodiges
18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.	18 et il les a menés par le désert durant une quarantaine d’années.
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.	19 Il a détruit devant eux sept peuples du pays de Canaan et il leur a donné cette terre en héritage.
20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.	20 Durant cette période de 450 ans il leur a donné des Juges jusqu’au prophète Samuel.
21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.	21 Après quoi ils ont demandé un roi et il leur a donné Saül, fils de Kich, un homme de la tribu de Benjamin - cela, pour une quarantaine d’années.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.	22 Mais ensuite Dieu l’a rejeté et a fait arriver le roi David. “J’ai trouvé David, le fils de Jessé, disait-il, c’est un homme selon mon désir, il réalisera tous mes projets.”
23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:	23 “Et de fait, c’est de la descendance de David que Dieu a fait surgir pour Israël un sauveur, comme il l’avait promis: je veux parler de Jésus.
24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.	24 Avant qu’il ne débute sa carrière, Jean déjà avait prêché à tout le peuple d’Israël un baptême de conversion.
25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.	25 Et lorsque Jean était sur le point de terminer sa propre course, il disait: ‘Je ne suis pas ce que vous voudriez que je sois. Mais après moi vient un autre à qui je ne suis pas digne de retirer la sandale.’
26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.	26 “Frères israélites, qui êtes la descendance et les fils d’Abraham, et vous aussi adorateurs de Dieu, c’est à nous qu’a été envoyé ce message de salut.
27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.	27 Les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs chefs l’ont méconnu; ils lui ont fait un procès et de cette façon ils ont accompli les paroles des prophètes qu’on lit chaque sabbat.
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.	28 Bien qu’ils n’aient rien trouvé pour une condamnation à mort, ils ont demandé à Pilate de le faire exécuter.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.	29 Et après avoir accompli tout ce qui était écrit à son sujet, ils l’ont détaché du bois sur lequel il était mort et l’ont mis au tombeau.
30 But God raised him from the dead:	30 “Mais Dieu l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts.
31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.	31 Durant de nombreux jours il s’est montré à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem et qui sont aujourd’hui ses témoins au milieu du peuple.
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,	32 Voilà comment nous-mêmes sommes porteurs de la promesse que Dieu a faite à nos pères:
33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.	33 Dieu l’a faite réalité pour nous, qui sommes leurs enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus, comme il est écrit dans le deuxième psaume: Tu es mon Fils, moi aujourd’hui je t’ai donné la vie.
34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.	34 “Dieu l’a relevé d’entre les morts, et il ne retombera pas, il ne fera pas l’expérience de la corruption. Cela a été dit: Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, celles qui ne trompent pas.
35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.	35 Et il est dit ailleurs: Tu ne permettras pas que ton saint connaisse la corruption.
36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:	36 “David a eu beau servir les plans de Dieu à son époque, il s’est endormi et est allé rejoindre ses pères: il a connu la corruption.
37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.	37 En revanche, celui que Dieu a ressuscité n’a pas vu la corruption.
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:	38 “Sachez-le donc, frères, ce qui nous est promis, c’est que par son intermédiaire vous recevrez le pardon des péchés, de toutes ces choses dont vous ne pouviez être justifiés par la Loi de Moïse.
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.	39 Oui, celui qui croit en lui est justifié.
40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;	40 Veillez donc à ce que ne vous arrive pas ce qui est dit dans les prophètes:
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.	41 Regardez, vous qui êtes bons pour vous moquer, soyez stupéfaits, abasourdis, car je vais faire quelque chose, et ce sera de vos jours, une œuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous le disait.”
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.	42 Quand ils sortirent de la synagogue, on les pria de reprendre ce sujet le sabbat suivant.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.	43 L’assistance se dispersa, mais un certain nombre de Juifs et de prosélytes adorateurs de Dieu suivirent Paul et Barnabé. Ils continuèrent de converser avec eux pour les persuader de persévérer dans la grâce de Dieu.
44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.	44 Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville était là pour entendre Paul qui fit un long exposé sur le Seigneur.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.	45 Les Juifs furent pris de jalousie en voyant tout ce monde, et ils commencèrent à contredire Paul avec des insultes.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.	46 Paul et Barnabé ne se laissèrent pas démonter; ils leur dirent: "C’est à vous qu’il fallait d’abord annoncer la parole de Dieu. Mais, puisque vous la rejetez et vous privez vous-mêmes de la vie éternelle, nous allons vers les païens.
47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.	47 Le Seigneur nous en fait un devoir: Je fais de toi la lumière des nations, tu porteras mon salut jusqu’aux extrémités du monde.”
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.	48 Ceux qui n’étaient pas juifs se réjouissaient d’entendre cela, et ils prenaient en estime la parole de Dieu. Un certain nombre eurent la foi, tous ceux qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle.
49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.	49 La parole de Dieu commença donc à se répandre dans toute la région.
50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.	50 Les Juifs montèrent la tête aux femmes de bonne condition qui adoraient Dieu, ainsi qu’aux notables de la ville. Ils suscitèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé et les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.	51 Ceux-ci secouèrent dans leur direction la poussière de leurs pieds et partirent vers Iconium.
52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.	52 Ils laissaient les disciples remplis de joie et de l’Esprit Saint.
