1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.	1 Amikor továbbment, látott egy vakon született embert.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?	2 Tanítványai megkérdezték őt: »Mester, ki vétkezett, ő vagy a szülei, hogy vakon született?«
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.	3 Jézus azt felelte: »Sem ő nem vétkezett, sem a szülei, hanem Isten tetteinek kell megnyilvánulniuk benne.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.	4 Nekünk annak tetteit kell cselekednünk, aki engem küldött, míg nappal van. Eljön az éjszaka, amikor senki sem munkálkodhat.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.	5 Amíg a világban vagyok, világossága vagyok a világnak.«
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,	6 Miután ezeket mondta, földre köpött, sarat csinált a nyálból, a sarat a vak szemére kente,
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.	7 és azt mondta neki: »Eredj, mosakodj meg a Síloe tavában!« Ez küldöttet jelent. Elment tehát, megmosdott, és ép szemmel tért vissza.
8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?	8 Ezért a szomszédok és akik azelőtt látták őt mint koldust, azt kérdezték: »Nem ő az, aki itt ült és koldult?« Egyesek azt mondták: »Ő az.«
9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.	9 Mások így szóltak: »Nem, csak hasonlít rá.« Ő azonban kijelentette: »Én vagyok az.«
10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?	10 Erre megkérdezték tőle: »Hogyan nyíltak meg a szemeid?«
11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.	11 Azt felelte: »Az az ember, akit Jézusnak hívnak, sarat csinált, megkente a szemeimet, és azt mondta nekem: ‘Menj a Síloe tavához, és mosakodj meg.’ Elmentem tehát, megmosdottam, és látok.«
12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.	12 Azok megkérdezték tőle: »Hol van ő?« Ő azt felelte: »Nem tudom.«
13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.	13 Ekkor elvitték a farizeusokhoz azt, aki előbb vak volt.
14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.	14 Azon a napon pedig, amikor Jézus a sarat csinálta és megnyitotta szemeit, szombat volt.
15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.	15 Ismét megkérdezték tehát tőle a farizeusok is, hogy hogyan nyerte vissza a szeme világát. Ő azt felelte: »Sarat tett a szemeimre, megmosdottam, és látok.«
16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.	16 Azt mondták erre néhányan a farizeusok közül: »Nem Istentől való ez az ember, aki a szombatot nem tartja meg!« Mások azt mondták: »Hogyan cselekedhet bűnös ember ilyen csodajeleket?« És szakadás támadt köztük.
17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.	17 Erre ismét megkérdezték a vaktól: »Te mit gondolsz róla, hisz megnyitotta szemeidet?« Ő pedig azt felelte: »Próféta!«
18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.	18 A zsidók azonban nem hitték el róla, hogy vak volt, és visszatért a látása, amíg elő nem hívták a most már ép szemű ember szüleit.
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?	19 Megkérdezték őket: »A ti fiatok ez, s azt mondjátok róla, hogy vakon született? Most hogyan lát tehát?«
20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:	20 A szülei azt felelték: »Azt tudjuk, hogy ez a mi fiunk, és hogy vakon született.
21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.	21 De hogy most miképpen lát, nem tudjuk, és hogy ki nyitotta meg szemét, azt sem tudjuk. Kérdezzétek őt, megvan a kora, majd ő beszél magáról.«
22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.	22 Ezt azért mondták a szülei, mert féltek a zsidóktól, mivel már elhatározták a zsidók, hogy ha valaki Krisztusnak vallja őt, ki kell zárni a zsinagógából.
23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.	23 Ezért mondták a szülei: »Megvan a kora, őt kérdezzétek.«
24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.	24 Másodszor is előhívták tehát az embert, aki vak volt, és azt mondták neki: »Adj dicsőséget Istennek! Mi tudjuk, hogy ez az ember bűnös.«
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.	25 Ő azt felelte: »Hogy bűnös-e, nem tudom. Egyet tudok: hogy vak voltam, és most látok.«
26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?	26 Erre megkérdezték tőle: »Mit csinált veled? Hogyan nyitotta meg a szemedet?«
27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?	27 Az azt felelte nekik: »Megmondtam már nektek, de nem hallgattátok meg. Miért akarjátok újra hallani? Csak nem akartok ti is a tanítványai lenni?«
28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.	28 Erre megátkozták őt, és azt mondták: »Te vagy az ő tanítványa, mi Mózes tanítványai vagyunk.
29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.	29 Mi tudjuk, hogy Mózeshez szólt az Isten, ezt pedig nem tudjuk, honnan van.«
30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.	30 Az ember erre azt felelte: »Éppen az a csodálatos, hogy ti nem tudjátok, honnan való, nekem pedig megnyitotta a szemeimet.
31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.	31 Tudjuk, hogy Isten a bűnösöket nem hallgatja meg, de aki istenfélő, és megteszi az ő akaratát, azt meghallgatja.
32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.	32 Mióta a világ áll, soha nem lehetett hallani, hogy valaki megnyitotta volna egy vakon született szemeit.
33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.	33 Ha ő nem Istentől való volna, nem tehetett volna semmit.«
34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.	34 Azok azt felelték neki: »Mindenestől bűnben születtél, és te oktatsz minket?« És kidobták őt.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?	35 Jézus meghallotta, hogy kidobták, és amikor találkozott vele, megkérdezte tőle: »Hiszel-e az Emberfiában?«
36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?	36 Az így felelt: »Ki az, Uram, hogy higgyek benne?«
37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.	37 Jézus azt mondta neki: »Hiszen láttad őt: ő az, aki veled beszél.«
38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.	38 Erre az így szólt: »Hiszek Uram!« És leborult előtte.
39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.	39 Akkor Jézus ezt mondta: »Ítélkezni jöttem erre a világra, hogy akik nem látnak, lássanak, és akik látnak, vakká legyenek.«
40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?	40 A farizeusok közül, akik vele voltak, néhányan hallották ezt, és azt mondták neki: »Csak nem vagyunk mi is vakok?«
41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.	41 Jézus ezt válaszolta: »Ha vakok volnátok, nem volna bűnötök. Ti azonban azt mondjátok most: ‘Látunk.’ Ezért megmarad a bűnötök.«
