KING JAMES BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.1 Iesus autem perrexit in montem Oliveti.
And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.2 Diluculo autem iterum venit intemplum, et omnis populus veniebat ad eum, et sedens docebat eos.
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,3 Adducuntautem scribae et pharisaei mulierem in adulterio deprehensam et statuerunt eamin medio
They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.4 et dicunt ei: “ Magister, haec mulier manifesto deprehensa est inadulterio.
Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?5 In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis huiusmodi lapidare; tu ergoquid dicis? ”.
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.6 Hoc autem dicebant tentantes eum, ut possent accusare eum.Iesus autem inclinans se deorsum digito scribebat in terra.
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.7 Cum autemperseverarent interrogantes eum, erexit se et dixit eis: “ Qui sine peccatoest vestrum, primus in illam lapidem mittat ”;
And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.8 et iterum se inclinansscribebat in terra.
And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.9 Audientes autem unus post unum exibant, incipientes asenioribus, et remansit solus, et mulier in medio stans.
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?10 Erigens autem seIesus dixit ei: “ Mulier, ubi sunt? Nemo te condemnavit? ”.
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.11 Quae dixit:“ Nemo, Domine ”. Dixit autem Iesus: “ Nec ego te condemno; vade etamplius iam noli peccare ”.
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.12 Iterum ergo locutus est eis Iesus dicens: “ Ego sum lux mundi; qui sequiturme, non ambulabit in tenebris, sed habebit lucem vitae ”.
The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.13 Dixerunt ergo eipharisaei: “ Tu de teipso testimonium perhibes; testimonium tuum non est verum”.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.14 Respondit Iesus et dixit eis: “ Et si ego testimonium perhibeo demeipso, verum est testimonium meum, quia scio unde veni et quo vado; vos autemnescitis unde venio aut quo vado.
Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.15 Vos secundum carnem iudicatis, ego noniudico quemquam.
And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.16 Et si iudico ego, iudicium meum verum est, quia solus nonsum, sed ego et, qui me misit, Pater.
It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.17 Sed et in lege vestra scriptum est, quia duorum hominum testimonium verum est.
I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.18 Ego sum, qui testimonium perhibeode meipso, et testimonium perhibet de me, qui misit me, Pater ”.
Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.19 Dicebantergo ei: “ Ubi est Pater tuus? ”. Respondit Iesus: “ Neque me scitis nequePatrem meum; si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis ”.
These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.20 Haec verbalocutus est in gazophylacio docens in templo; et nemo apprehendit eum, quianecdum venerat hora eius.
Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.21 Dixit ergo iterum eis: “ Ego vado, et quaeretis me et in peccato vestromoriemini! Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire ”.
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.22 Dicebant ergo Iudaei:“ Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dicit: “Quo ego vado, vos nonpotestis venire”? ”.
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.23 Et dicebat eis: “ Vos de deorsum estis, ego desupernis sum; vos de mundo hoc estis, ego non sum de hoc mundo.
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.24 Dixi ergovobis quia moriemini in peccatis vestris; si enim non credideritis quia ego sum, moriemini in peccatis vestris ”.
Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.25 Dicebant ergo ei: “ Tu quis es? ”.Dixit eis Iesus: “ In principio: id quod et loquor vobis!
I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.26 Multa habeo devobis loqui et iudicare; sed, qui misit me, verax est, et ego, quae audivi abeo, haec loquor ad mundum ”.
They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.27 Non cognoverunt quia Patrem eis dicebat.
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.28 Dixit ergo eis Iesus: “ Cum exaltaveritis Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetisquia ego sum et a meipso facio nihil, sed, sicut docuit me Pater, haec loquor.
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.29 Et qui me misit, mecum est; non reliquit me solum, quia ego, quae placitasunt ei, facio semper ”.
As he spake these words, many believed on him.30 Haec illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;31 Dicebat ergo Iesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Iudaeos: “ Si vos manseritisin sermone meo, vere discipuli mei estis
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.32 et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritasliberabit vos ”.
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?33 Responderunt ei: “ Semen Abrahae sumus et neminiservivimus umquam! Quomodo tu dicis: “Liberi fietis”? ”.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.34 Respondit eisIesus: “ Amen, amen dico vobis: Omnis, qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati.
And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.35 Servus autem non manet in domo in aeternum; filius manet in aeternum.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.36 Siergo Filius vos liberaverit, vere liberi eritis.
I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.37 Scio quia semen Abrahaeestis; sed quaeritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis.
I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.38 Ego,quae vidi apud Patrem, loquor; et vos ergo, quae audivistis a patre, facitis ”.
They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.39 Responderunt et dixerunt ei: “ Pater noster Abraham est ”. Dicit eisIesus: “ Si filii Abrahae essetis, opera Abrahae faceretis.
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.40 Nunc autemquaeritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivia Deo; hoc Abraham non fecit.
Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.41 Vos facitis opera patris vestri ”. Dixeruntitaque ei: “ Nos ex fornicatione non sumus nati; unum patrem habemus Deum! ”.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.42 Dixit eis Iesus: “ Si Deus pater vester esset, diligeretis me; ego enim exDeo processi et veni; neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.43 Quareloquelam meam non cognoscitis? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.44 Vos expatre Diabolo estis et desideria patris vestri vultis facere. Ille homicida eratab initio et in veritate non stabat, quia non est veritas in eo. Cum loquiturmendacium, ex propriis loquitur, quia mendax est et pater eius.
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.45 Ego autemquia veritatem dico, non creditis mihi.
Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?46 Quis ex vobis arguit me de peccato?Si veritatem dico, quare vos non creditis mihi?
He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.47 Qui est ex Deo, verba Deiaudit; propterea vos non auditis, quia ex Deo non estis ”.
Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?48 Responderunt Iudaei et dixerunt ei: “ Nonne bene dicimus nos, quiaSamaritanus es tu et daemonium habes? ”.
Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.49 Respondit Iesus: “ Ego daemoniumnon habeo, sed honorifico Patrem meum, et vos inhonoratis me.
And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.50 Ego autem nonquaero gloriam meam; est qui quaerit et iudicat.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.51 Amen, amen dico vobis: Siquis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in aeternum ”.
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.52 Dixeruntergo ei Iudaei: “ Nunc cognovimus quia daemonium habes. Abraham mortuus est etprophetae, et tu dicis: “Si quis sermonem meum servaverit, non gustabit mortemin aeternum”.
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?53 Numquid tu maior es patre nostro Abraham, qui mortuus est? Etprophetae mortui sunt! Quem teipsum facis? ”.
Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:54 Respondit Iesus: “ Si egoglorifico meipsum, gloria mea nihil est; est Pater meus, qui glorificat me, quemvos dicitis: “Deus noster est!”,
Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.55 et non cognovistis eum. Ego autem novieum. Et si dixero: Non scio eum, ero similis vobis, mendax; sed scio eum etsermonem eius servo.
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.56 Abraham pater vester exsultavit, ut videret diem meum;et vidit et gavisus est ”.
Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?57 Dixerunt ergo Iudaei ad eum: “ Quinquagintaannos nondum habes et Abraham vidisti? ”.
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.58 Dixit eis Iesus: “ Amen, amendico vobis: Antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum ”.
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.59 Tulerunt ergo lapides, utiacerent in eum; Iesus autem abscondit se et exivit de templo.
