1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:	1 C'era tra i farisei un uomo di nome Nicodemo, un capo dei Giudei.
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.	2 Questi venne da lui di notte e gli disse: "Rabbì, noi sappiamo che sei venuto da Dio come maestro. Nessuno infatti può fare questi segni che tu fai se Dio non è con lui".
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.	3 Rispose Gesù: "In verità, in verità ti dico: Se uno non è nato dall'alto, non può vedere il regno di Dio".
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?	4 Gli dice Nicodemo: "Come può un uomo nascere se è vecchio? Può forse entrare una seconda volta nel grembo di sua madre e nascere?".
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.	5 Gesù rispose: "In verità, in verità ti dico: se uno non è nato dall'acqua e dallo Spirito, non può entrare nel regno di Dio.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.	6 Il nato dalla carne è carne e il nato dallo Spirito è spirito.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.	7 Non meravigliarti che ti abbia detto: voi dovete nascere dall'alto.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.	8 Il vento soffia dove vuole, senti il suo sibilo, ma non sai donde viene né dove va. Così è chiunque è nato dallo Spirito".
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?	9 "Come possono avvenire questi fatti?", riprese Nicodemo.
10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?	10 Rispose Gesù: "Tu sei maestro in Israele e non conosci queste cose?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.	11 In verità, in verità ti dico: noi parliamo di ciò che sappiamo e testimoniamo ciò che abbiamo visto, ma voi non accogliete la nostra testimonianza.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?	12 Se non credete quando vi ho detto cose terrene, come crederete qualora vi dica cose celesti?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.	13 Nessuno è salito al cielo se non colui che è disceso dal cielo, il Figlio dell'uomo, che è in cielo.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:	14 E come Mosè innalzò il serpente nel deserto, così deve essere innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo,
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	15 affinché chiunque crede in lui abbia la vita eterna.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.	16 Dio infatti ha tanto amato il mondo, che ha dato il Figlio suo Unigenito affinché chiunque crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia la vita eterna.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.	17 Dio infatti non mandò il Figlio nel mondo per condannare il mondo, ma perché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.	18 Chi crede in lui non viene condannato; chi non crede in lui è già condannato, perché non ha creduto nel nome del Figlio Unigenito di Dio.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.	19 Ora il giudizio è questo: la luce venne nel mondo, ma gli uomini hanno amato più le tenebre che la luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.	20 Poiché: chiunque fa il male odia la luce e non viene alla luce, perché le sue opere non siano smascherate.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.	21 Colui invece che fa la verità viene alla luce, perché si riveli che le sue opere sono operate in Dio".
22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.	22 In seguito Gesù e i suoi discepoli vennero nel territorio della Giudea e lì si trattenne con loro e battezzava.
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.	23 Anche Giovanni stava battezzando a Ennon vicino a Salim, perché là le acque erano abbondanti, e la gente accorreva e si faceva battezzare.
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.	24 Giovanni infatti non era ancora stato messo in prigione.
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.	25 Sorse allora una disputa fra i discepoli di Giovanni e un giudeo a proposito della purificazione.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.	26 Andarono da Giovanni e gli dissero: "Rabbì, colui che era con te al di là del Giordano, cui tu hai reso testimonianza, ecco che battezza e tutti vanno da lui".
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.	27 Rispose Giovanni: "Non può un uomo prendere nulla se non gli è dato dal cielo.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.	28 Voi stessi mi siete testimoni che ho detto: "Non sono io il Cristo, ma sono colui che è stato mandato davanti a lui".
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.	29 Colui che ha la sposa è lo sposo; ma l'amico dello sposo, che gli sta vicino e l'ascolta, è ripieno di gioia per la voce dello sposo. Questa gioia, che è la mia, ora è perfetta.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.	30 Egli deve crescere, io invece diminuire".
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.	31 Colui che viene dall'alto è sopra di tutti. Colui che è dalla terra appartiene alla terra e parla da uomo della terra. Colui che viene dal cielo è sopra di tutti.
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.	32 Egli testimonia ciò che ha visto e udito, ma nessuno accoglie la sua testimonianza.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.	33 Colui che accoglie la sua testimonianza, ratifica che Dio è verace.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.	34 Infatti colui che Dio ha mandato, dice le parole di Dio, poiché dà lo Spirito senza misura.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.	35 Il Padre ama il Figlio e ha tutto rimesso nella sua mano.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.	36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha la vita eterna; chi invece disobbedisce al Figlio non vedrà la vita, ma l'ira di Dio è sopra di lui.
