1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:	1 Había entre los fariseos un hombre llamado Nicodemo, magistrado judío.
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.	2 Fue éste donde Jesús de noche y le dijo: «Rabbí, sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro, porque nadie puede realizar las señales que tú realizas si Dios no está con él».
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.	3 Jesús le respondió: «En verdad, en verdad te digo: el que no nazca de lo alto no puede ver el Reino de Dios».
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?	4 Dícele Nicodemo: «¿Cómo puede uno nacer siendo ya viejo? ¿Puede acaso entrar otra vez en el seno de su madre y nacer?»
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.	5 Respondió Jesús: «En verdad, en verdad te digo: el que no nazca de agua y de Espíritu no puede entrar en el Reino de Dios.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.	6 Lo nacido de la carne, es carne; lo nacido del Espíritu, es espíritu.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.	7 No te asombres de que te haya dicho: Tenéis que nacer de lo alto.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.	8 El viento sopla donde quiere, y oyes su voz, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Así es todo el que nace del Espíritu».
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?	9 Respondió Nicodemo: «¿Cómo puede ser eso?»
10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?	10 Jesús le respondió: «Tú eres maestro en Israel y ¿no sabes estas cosas?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.	11 «En verdad, en verdad te digo: nosotros hablamos de lo que sabemos y damos testimonio de lo que hemos visto, pero vosotros no aceptáis nuestro testimonio.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?	12 Si al deciros cosas de la tierra, no creéis, ¿cómo vais a creer si os digo cosas del cielo?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.	13 Nadie ha subido al cielo sino el que bajó del cielo, el Hijo del hombre.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:	14 Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así tiene que ser levantado el Hijo del hombre,
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	15 para que todo el que crea tenga por él vida eterna.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.	16 Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.	17 Porque Dios no ha enviado a su Hijo al mundo para juzgar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salve por él.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.	18 El que creee en él, no es juzgado; pero el que no cree, ya está juzgado, porque no ha creído en el Nombre del Hijo único de Dios.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.	19 Y el juicio está en que vino la luz al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, porque sus obras eran malas.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.	20 Pues todo el que obra el mal aborrece la luz y no va a la luz, para que no sean censuradas sus obras.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.	21 Pero el que obra la verdad, va a la luz, para que quede de manifiesto que sus obras están hechas según Dios».
22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.	22 Después de esto, se fue Jesús con sus discípulos al país de Judea; y allí se estaba con ellos y bautizaba.
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.	23 Juan también estaba bautizando en Ainón, cerca de Salim, porque había allí mucha agua, y la gente acudía y se bautizaba.
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.	24 Pues todavía Juan no había sido metido en la cárcel.
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.	25 Se suscitó una discusión entre los discípulos de Juan y un judío acerca de la purificación.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.	26 Fueron, pues, donde Juan y le dijeron: «Rabbí, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán, aquel de quien diste testimonio, mira, está bautizando y todos se van a él».
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.	27 Juan respondió: «Nadie puede recibir nada si no se le ha dado del cielo.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.	28 Vosotros mismos me sois testigos de que dije: “Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que he sido enviado delante de él.”
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.	29 El que tiene a la novia es el novio; pero el amigo del novio, el que asiste y le oye, se alegra mucho con la voz del novio. Esta es, pues, mi alegría, que ha alcanzado su plenitud.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.	30 Es preciso que él crezca y que yo disminuya.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.	31 El que viene de arriba está por encima de todos: el que es de la tierra, es de la tierra y habla de la tierra. El que viene del cielo,
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.	32 da testimonio de lo que ha visto y oído, y su testimonio nadie lo acepta.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.	33 El que acepta su testimonio certifica que Dios es veraz.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.	34 Porque aquel a quien Dios ha enviado habla las palabras de Dios, porque da el Espíritu sin medida.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.	35 El Padre ama al Hijo y ha puesto todo en su mano.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.	36 El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; el que rehúsa creer en el Hijo, no verá la vida, sino que la cólera de Dios permanece sobre él».
