Matthew 5

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:	1 Voyant les foules, il gravit la montagne, et quand il fut assis, ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui.
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,	2 Et prenant la parole, il les enseignait en disant:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	3 "Heureux ceux qui ont une âme de pauvre, car le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.	4 Heureux les doux, car ils posséderont la terre.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.	5 Heureux les affligés, car ils seront consolés.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.	6 Heureux les affamés et assoiffés de la justice, car ils seront rassasiés.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.	7 Heureux les miséricordieux, car ils obtiendront miséricorde.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.	8 Heureux les coeurs purs, car ils verront Dieu.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.	9 Heureux les artisans de paix, car ils seront appelés fils de Dieu.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	10 Heureux les persécutés pour la justice, car le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.	11 Heureux êtes-vous quand on vous insultera, qu'on vous persécutera, et qu'on dira faussementcontre vous toute sorte d'infamie à cause de moi.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.	12 Soyez dans la joie et l'allégresse, car votre récompense sera grande dans les cieux: c'est bien ainsiqu'on a persécuté les prophètes, vos devanciers.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.	13 "Vous êtes le sel de la terre. Mais si le sel vient à s'affadir, avec quoi le salera-t-on? Il n'est plusbon à rien qu'à être jeté dehors et foulé aux pieds par les gens.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.	14 "Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Une ville ne se peut cacher, qui est sise au sommet d'un mont.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.	15 Et l'on n'allume pas une lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, mais bien sur le lampadaire, oùelle brille pour tous ceux qui sont dans la maison.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.	16 Ainsi votre lumière doit-elle briller devant les hommes afin qu'ils voient vos bonnes oeuvres etglorifient votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.	17 "N'allez pas croire que je sois venu abolir la Loi ou les Prophètes: je ne suis pas venu abolir, maisaccomplir.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.	18 Car je vous le dis, en vérité: avant que ne passent le ciel et la terre, pas un i, pas un point sur l'i,ne passera de la Loi, que tout ne soit réalisé.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.	19 Celui donc qui violera l'un de ces moindres préceptes, et enseignera aux autres à faire de même,sera tenu pour le moindre dans le Royaume des Cieux; au contraire, celui qui les exécutera et les enseignera,celui-là sera tenu pour grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.	20 "Car je vous le dis: si votre justice ne surpasse pas celle des scribes et des Pharisiens, vousn'entrerez pas dans le Royaume des Cieux.
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:	21 "Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit aux ancêtres: Tu ne tueras point; et si quelqu'un tue, il enrépondra au tribunal.
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.	22 Eh bien! moi je vous dis: Quiconque se fâche contre son frère en répondra au tribunal; mais s'ildit à son frère: Crétin! il en répondra au Sanhédrin; et s'il lui dit: Renégat!, il en répondra dans la géhenne de feu.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;	23 Quand donc tu présentes ton offrande à l'autel, si là tu te souviens que ton frère a quelque chosecontre toi,
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.	24 laisse là ton offrande, devant l'autel, et va d'abord te réconcilier avec ton frère; puis reviens, etalors présente ton offrande.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.	25 Hâte-toi de t'accorder avec ton adversaire, tant que tu es encore avec lui sur le chemin, de peurque l'adversaire ne te livre au juge, et le juge au garde, et qu'on ne te jette en prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.	26 En vérité, je te le dis: tu ne sortiras pas de là, que tu n'aies rendu jusqu'au dernier sou.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:	27 "Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: Tu ne commettras pas l'adultère.
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.	28 Eh bien! moi je vous dis: Quiconque regarde une femme pour la désirer a déjà commis, dans soncoeur, l'adultère avec elle.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.	29 Que si ton oeil droit est pour toi une occasion de péché, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi: carmieux vaut pour toi que périsse un seul de tes membres et que tout ton corps ne soit pas jeté dans la géhenne.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.	30 Et si ta main droite est pour toi une occasion de péché, coupe-la et jette-la loin de toi: car mieuxvaut pour toi que périsse un seul de tes membres et que tout ton corps ne s'en aille pas dans la géhenne.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:	31 "Il a été dit d'autre part: Quiconque répudiera sa femme, qu'il lui remette un acte de divorce.
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.	32 Eh bien! moi je vous dis: Tout homme qui répudie sa femme, hormis le cas de "prostitution",l'expose à l'adultère; et quiconque épouse une répudiée, commet un adultère.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:	33 "Vous avez encore entendu qu'il a été dit aux ancêtres: Tu ne te parjureras pas, mais tut'acquitteras envers le Seigneur de tes serments.
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:	34 Eh bien! moi je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout: ni par le Ciel, car c'est le trône de Dieu;
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.	35 ni par la Terre, car c'est l'escabeau de ses pieds; ni par Jérusalem, car c'est la Ville du grand Roi.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.	36 Ne jure pas non plus par ta tête, car tu ne peux en rendre un seul cheveu blanc ou noir.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.	37 Que votre langage soit: Oui? Oui, Non? Non: ce qu'on dit de plus vient du Mauvais.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:	38 "Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: oeil pour oeil et dent pour dent.
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.	39 Eh bien! moi je vous dis de ne pas tenir tête au méchant: au contraire, quelqu'un te donne-t-il unsoufflet sur la joue droite, tends-lui encore l'autre;
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.	40 veut-il te faire un procès et prendre ta tunique, laisse-lui même ton manteau;
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.	41 te requiert-il pour une course d'un mille, fais-en deux avec lui.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.	42 A qui te demande, donne; à qui veut t'emprunter, ne tourne pas le dos.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.	43 "Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: Tu aimeras ton prochain et tu haïras ton ennemi.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;	44 Eh bien! moi je vous dis: Aimez vos ennemis, et priez pour vos persécuteurs,
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.	45 afin de devenir fils de votre Père qui est aux cieux, car il fait lever son soleil sur les méchants etsur les bons, et tomber la pluie sur les justes et sur les injustes.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?	46 Car si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense aurez-vous? Les publicains eux-mêmes n'en font-ils pas autant?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?	47 Et si vous réservez vos saluts à vos frères, que faites-vous d'extraordinaire? Les païens eux-mêmes n'en font-ils pas autant?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.	48 Vous donc, vous serez parfaits comme votre Père céleste est parfait.
