1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:	1 Quand Jésus vit tout ce peuple, il gravit la montagne. Là il s’assit et ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui,
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,	2 il ouvrit la bouche et commença à les enseigner:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	3 “Heureux ceux qui ont un cœur de pauvre, le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.	4 Heureux les doux, ils auront la terre en héritage.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.	5 Heureux ceux qui sont dans le deuil, ils seront réconfortés.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.	6 Heureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice, ils seront rassasiés.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.	7 Heureux les miséricordieux, ils auront droit à la miséricorde.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.	8 Heureux ceux qui ont le cœur pur, ils verront Dieu.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.	9 Heureux ceux qui sèment la paix, ils seront appelés enfants de Dieu.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	10 Heureux ceux qui sont persécutés quand ils agissent en toute droiture, le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.	11 Oui, heureux serez-vous quand on vous insultera à cause de moi, et qu’on vous poursuivra, et qu’on dira sur vous toute sorte de calomnies.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.	12 Soyez heureux, sautez de joie, car vous avez dans les cieux une belle récompense. On poursuivait tout pareillement les prophètes qui étaient avant vous.”
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.	13 “Vous êtes le sel de la terre. Mais si le sel perd son mordant, avec quoi le salera-t-on? Il ne sert plus à rien; on le jette dehors et il sera piétiné.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.	14 “Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Comment cacher une ville bâtie au sommet de la montagne?
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.	15 Personne n’allume une lampe pour la mettre sous un meuble: on la met sur un lampadaire, et elle donne sa lumière à toute la maison.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.	16 Que votre lumière, de même, brille devant les hommes: qu’ils voient vos bonnes œuvres, et qu’ils rendent gloire à votre Père qui est dans les Cieux.”
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.	17 “Ne croyez pas que je suis venu défaire la Loi et les Prophètes: je ne suis pas venu pour défaire, mais pour accomplir.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.	18 En vérité, je vous le dis, pas une lettre, pas une virgule de la Loi ne passera avant que ne passent le ciel et la terre: tout se réalisera.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.	19 “Si quelqu’un écarte un des plus petits commandements et enseigne aux autres à faire de même, il sera mis au dernier rang dans le Royaume des Cieux. Mais si quelqu’un les met en pratique et les enseigne, celui-là sera grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.	20 “Je vous le dis: si votre idéal de perfection ne dépasse pas celui des maîtres de la Loi et des Pharisiens, vous ne pouvez pas entrer dans le Royaume des Cieux.
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:	21 “Vous venez d’entendre qu’on a dit à vos ancêtres: Tu ne tueras pas. Si quelqu’un a tué, il doit passer en jugement.
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.	22 Mais moi je vous dis: si quelqu’un se met en colère contre son frère, il mérite un jugement; si quelqu’un traite son frère de fou, il mérite une sentence du Conseil suprême; s’il lui a dit: ‘Sois maudit!’ il mérite d’aller à l’enfer du feu.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;	23 “Quand donc tu t’avances pour présenter à l’autel ton offrande, si tu te souviens que ton frère a quelque chose à te reprocher,
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.	24 laisse là devant l’autel ton offrande, et va d’abord te réconcilier avec ton frère. Ensuite tu reviendras présenter ton offrande.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.	25 “Trouve tout de suite un accord avec ton adversaire pendant que vous êtes en chemin l’un et l’autre. Ton adversaire peut-être te mettrait entre les mains du juge, le juge te remettrait au policier et tu serais mis en prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.	26 En vérité, je te le dis, tu n’en sortiras pas tant que tu n’auras pas payé le dernier centime.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:	27 “Vous venez d’entendre qu’il a été dit: Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère.
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.	28 Mais moi je vous dis: celui qui regarde une femme pour satisfaire son désir a déjà commis l’adultère dans son cœur.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.	29 Si ton œil droit te mène à la chute, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Il vaut mieux pour toi perdre un de tes membres plutôt que d’avoir ton corps entier jeté dans l’enfer du feu.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.	30 Et si c’est ta main droite qui te mène à la chute, coupe-la et jette-la. C’est ton intérêt de perdre un de tes membres plutôt que d’avoir ton corps jeté tout entier dans la géhenne.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:	31 “Il a été dit: Celui qui renvoie sa femme devra lui donner un billet de divorce.
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.	32 Mais moi je vous dis: celui qui renvoie sa femme, sauf pour infidélité, la fait devenir adultère. Et celui qui épouse cette femme renvoyée commet lui aussi un adultère.”
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:	33 “Vous avez entendu qu’on a dit à vos ancêtres: Tu ne reviendras pas sur tes serments; tu donneras au Seigneur ce que tu as juré.
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:	34 Mais moi je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout: ni par le ciel, parce que c’est le trône de Dieu,
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.	35 ni par la terre, parce que c’est son marchepied, ni par Jérusalem, parce que c’est la ville du grand Roi.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.	36 Tu ne jureras pas davantage par ta tête parce que tu ne peux même pas rendre noir ou blanc un seul de tes cheveux.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.	37 Donc, que votre ‘oui’ soit oui, et votre ‘non’, non; tout le reste vient du démon.”
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:	38 “Vous avez entendu qu’il a été dit: Œil pour œil, dent pour dent.
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.	39 Mais moi je vous dis de ne pas résister au méchant. Si on te frappe sur la joue droite, présente encore l’autre joue.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.	40 Et si quelqu’un veut te réclamer ta tunique, donne-lui aussi ton manteau.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.	41 Si quelqu’un t’impose une corvée, un kilomètre à faire, fais-en deux avec lui.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.	42 Donne à celui qui te demande et ne te détourne pas de celui qui veut t’emprunter.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.	43 “Vous avez entendu qu’il a été dit: Tu aimeras ton prochain et tu ne feras pas de cadeau à ton ennemi.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;	44 Mais moi je vous dis: aimez vos ennemis et priez pour ceux qui vous persécutent.
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.	45 C’est ainsi que vous serez les fils de votre Père des Cieux, lui qui fait briller le soleil sur les méchants comme sur les bons, et qui fait pleuvoir pour les gens honnêtes comme pour les malhonnêtes.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?	46 “D’ailleurs, quand vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense méritez-vous? Même les publicains le font.
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?	47 Et si vous saluez seulement ceux qui sont de votre bord, que faites-vous d’extraordinaire? Les païens eux-mêmes le font.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.	48 Donc vous, vous serez parfaits comme votre Père du Ciel est parfait.”
