1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,	1 Quando Jesus acabou todos esses discursos, disse a seus discípulos:
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.	2 “Sabeis que daqui a dois dias será a Páscoa, e o Filho do Homem será traído para ser crucificado”.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,	3 Então, os príncipes dos sacer­dotes e os anciãos do povo reuniram-se no pátio do sumo sacerdote, chamado Caifás,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.	4 e deliberaram sobre os meios de prender Jesus por astúcia e de o matar.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.	5 E dizi­am: “Sobretudo, não seja durante a festa. Poderá haver um tumulto entre o povo”.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,	6 Encontrava-se Jesus em Betânia, na casa de Simão, o leproso.
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.	7 Estando à mesa, aproximou-se dele uma mulher com um vaso de alabastro, cheio de perfume muito caro, e derramou-o na sua cabeça.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?	8 Vendo isso, os discípulos disseram indignados: “Para que este desperdício?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.	9 Poderia vender este perfume por um bom preço e dar o dinheiro aos pobres”.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.	10 Jesus ouviu-os e disse-lhes: “Por que molestais esta mulher? É uma ação boa o que ela me fez.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.	11 Pobres vós tereis sempre convosco. A mim, porém, nem sempre me tereis.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.	12 Derramando esse perfume em meu corpo, ela o fez em vista da minha sepultura.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.	13 Em verdade eu vos digo: em toda parte onde for pregado este Evangelho pelo mundo inteiro, será contado em sua memória o que ela fez”.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,	14 Então, um dos Doze, chamado Judas Iscariotes, foi ter com os príncipes dos sacerdotes e perguntou-lhes:
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.	15 “Que quereis dar-me e eu vo-lo entregarei”. Ajustaram com ele trinta moedas de prata.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.	16 E desde aquele instante, procurava uma ocasião favorável para entregar Jesus.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?	17 No primeiro dia dos ázimos, os discípulos aproximaram-se de Jesus e perguntaram-lhe: “Onde queres que preparemos a ceia pascal?”.
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.	18 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: “Ide à cidade, à casa de um tal, e dizei-lhe: O Mestre manda dizer-te: Meu tempo está próximo. É em tua casa que celebrarei a Páscoa com meus discípulos”.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.	19 Os discípulos fizeram o que Jesus tinha ordenado e prepararam a Páscoa.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.	20 Ao declinar da tarde, pôs-se Jesus à mesa com os doze discípulos.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.	21 Durante a ceia, disse: “Em verdade vos digo: um de vós me há de trair”.
22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?	22 Com profunda aflição, cada um começou a perguntar: “Sou eu, Senhor?”.
23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.	23 Respondeu ele: “Aquele que pôs comigo a mão no prato, esse me trairá.
24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.	24 O Filho do Homem vai, como dele está escrito. Mas ai daquele homem por quem o Filho do Homem é traído! Seria melhor para esse homem que jamais tivesse nascido!”.
25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.	25 Judas, o traidor, tomou a palavra e perguntou: “Mestre, serei eu?”. “Sim” – disse Jesus.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.	26 Durante a refeição, Jesus tomou o pão, benzeu-o, partiu-o e o deu aos discípulos, dizendo: “Tomai e comei, isto é meu corpo”.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;	27 Tomou depois o cálice, rendeu graças e deu-lho, dizendo: “Bebei dele todos,
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.	28 porque isto é meu sangue, o sangue da Nova Aliança, derramado por muitos homens em remissão dos pecados.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.	29 Digo-vos: doravante não beberei mais desse fruto da vinha até o dia em que o beberei de novo convosco no Reino de meu Pai”.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.	30 Depois do canto dos Salmos, dirigiram-se eles para o monte das Oliveiras.
31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.	31 Disse-lhes então Jesus: “Esta noite serei para todos vós uma ocasião de queda; porque está escrito: Ferirei o pastor, e as ovelhas do rebanho serão dispersadas ( Zc 13,7 ).
32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.	32 Mas, depois da minha Ressurreição, eu vos precederei na Galileia”.
33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.	33 Pedro interveio: “Mesmo que sejas para todos uma ocasião de queda, para mim jamais o serás”.
34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.	34 Disse-lhe Jesus: “Em verdade te digo: nesta noite mesma, antes que o galo cante, três vezes me negarás”.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.	35 Respondeu-lhe Pedro: “Mesmo que seja necessário morrer contigo, jamais te negarei!”. E todos os outros discípulos diziam-lhe o mesmo.
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.	36 Retirou-se Jesus com eles para um lugar chamado Getsêmani e disse-lhes: “Assentai-vos aqui, enquanto eu vou ali orar...
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.	37 E, tomando consigo Pedro e os dois filhos de Zebedeu, começou a entristecer-se e a angustiar-se.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.	38 Disse-lhes, então: “Minha alma está triste até a morte. Ficai aqui e vigiai comigo”.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.	39 Adiantou-se um pouco e, prostrando-se com a face por terra, assim rezou: “Meu Pai, se é possível, afasta de mim este cálice! Todavia, não se faça o que eu quero, mas sim o que tu queres”.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?	40 Foi ter então com os discípulos e os encontrou dormindo. E disse a Pedro: “Então, não pudestes vigiar uma hora comigo...
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.	41 Vigiai e orai para que não entreis em tentação. O espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca”.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.	42 Afastou-se pela segunda vez e orou, dizendo: “Meu Pai, se não é possível que este cálice passe sem que eu o beba, faça-se a tua vontade!”
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.	43 Voltou ainda e os encontrou novamente dormindo, porque seus olhos estavam pesados.
44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.	44 Deixou-os e foi orar pela terceira vez, dizendo as mesmas palavras.
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.	45 Voltou, então, para os seus discípulos e disse-lhes: “Dormi agora e repousai! Chegou a hora: o Filho do Homem vai ser entregue nas mãos dos pecadores...
46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.	46 Levantai-vos, vamos! Aquele que me trai está perto daqui”.
47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.	47 Jesus ainda falava, quando veio Judas, um dos Doze, e com ele uma multidão de gente armada de espadas e cacetes, enviada pelos príncipes dos sacerdotes e pelos anciãos do povo.
48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.	48 O traidor combinara com eles este sinal: “Aquele que eu beijar, é ele. Prendei-o!”.
49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.	49 Aproximou-se imediatamente de Jesus e disse: “Salve, Mestre”. E beijou-o.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.	50 Disse-lhe Jesus: “É, então, para isso que vens aqui?”. Em seguida, adiantaram-se eles e lançaram mão em Jesus para prendê-lo.
51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.	51 Mas um dos companheiros de Jesus desembainhou a espada e feriu um servo do sumo sacerdote, decepando-lhe a orelha.
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.	52 Jesus, no entanto, lhe dis­se: “Embainha tua espada, porque todos aqueles que usarem da espada, pela espada morrerão.
53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?	53 Crês tu que não posso invocar meu Pai e ele não me enviaria imediatamente mais de doze legiões de anjos?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?	54 Mas como se cumpririam então as Escrituras, segundo as quais é preciso que seja assim?”.
55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.	55 Depois, voltando-se para a turba, falou: “Saístes armados de espadas e porretes para prender-me, como se eu fosse um malfeitor. Entretanto, todos os dias estava eu sentado entre vós ensinando no templo e não me prendestes.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.	56 Mas tudo isto aconteceu porque era necessário que se cumprissem os oráculos dos profetas”. Então, os discípulos o abandonaram e fugiram.
57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.	57 Os que haviam prendido Jesus levaram-no à casa do sumo sacerdote Caifás, onde estavam reu­nidos os escribas e os anciãos do povo.
58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.	58 Pedro seguia-o de longe, até o pátio do sumo sacerdote. Entrou e sentou-se junto aos criados para ver como terminaria aquilo.
59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;	59 Enquanto isso, os príncipes dos sacerdotes e todo o conselho procuravam um falso testemunho contra Jesus, a fim de o levarem à morte.
60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,	60 Mas não o conseguiram, embora se apresentassem muitas falsas testemunhas.
61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.	61 Por fim, apresentaram-se duas testemunhas, que disseram: “Este homem disse: Posso destruir o Templo de Deus e reedificá-lo em três dias”.
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?	62 Levantou-se o sumo sacerdote e lhe perguntou: “Nada tens a responder ao que essa gente depõe contra ti?”.
63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.	63 Jesus, no entanto, permanecia calado. Disse-lhe o sumo sacerdote: “Por Deus vivo, conjuro-te que nos digas se és o Cristo, o Filho de Deus?”.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.	64 Jesus respondeu: “Sim. Além disso, eu vos declaro que vereis doravante o Filho do Homem sentar-se à direita do Todo-poderoso, e voltar sobre as nuvens do céu”.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.	65 A essas palavras, o sumo sacerdote rasgou suas vestes, exclamando: “Que necessidade temos ainda de testemunhas? Acabastes de ouvir a blasfêmia!
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.	66 Qual o vosso parecer?”. Eles responderam: “Merece a morte!”.
67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,	67 Cuspiram-lhe então na face, bateram-lhe com os punhos e deram-lhe tapas,
68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?	68 dizendo: “Adi­vinha, ó Cristo: quem te bateu?”. (= Mc 14,66-72 = Lc 22,55-62 = Jo 18,15-27 )
69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.	69 Enquanto isso, Pedro estava sentado no pátio. Aproximou-se dele uma das servas, dizendo: “Também tu estavas com Jesus, o Galileu”.
70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.	70 Mas ele negou publicamente, nestes termos: “Não sei o que dizes”.
71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.	71 Dirigia-se ele para a porta, a fim de sair, quando outra criada o viu e disse aos que lá estavam: “Este homem também estava com Jesus de Nazaré”.
72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.	72 Pedro, pela segunda vez, negou com juramento: “Eu nem conheço tal homem”.
73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.	73 Pouco depois, os que ali estavam aproximaram-se de Pedro e disseram: “Sim, tu és daqueles; teu modo de falar te dá a conhecer”.
74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.	74 Pedro, então, começou a fazer imprecações, jurando que nem sequer conhecia tal homem. E, neste momento, cantou o galo.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.	75 Pedro recordou-se do que Jesus lhe dissera: “Antes que o galo cante, tu me negarás três vezes”. E saindo, chorou amargamente.
