1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.	1 Le roi Baltassar fit un grand festin à mille des grands de sa cour,et chacun buvait selon son âge.
2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.	2 Le roi, déjà pris de vin, ordonna qu'on apportât les vases d'or et d'argent que son père Nabuchodonosor avait enlevés du temple de Jérusalem, afin que le roi, ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines s'en servissent pour boire.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.	3 Alors on apporta les vases d'or et d'argent qui avaient été enlevés du temple de Jérusalem, et le roi, ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines s'en servirent pour boire.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.	4 Ils buvaient du vin et ils louaient leurs dieux d'or et d'argent, d'airain, de fer, de bois et de pierre.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.	5 Au même instant apparurent des doigts et comme la main d'un homme qui écrivait en face du candélabre, sur la paroi du mur de la salle royale, et le roi voyait les doigts de la main qui écrivait.
6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.	6 Alors le visage du roi se changea, et ses pensées le troublèrent, et les jointures de ses reins se relâchèrent, et ses genoux se choquaient l'un l'autre.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.	7 Le roi cria donc avec force qu'on fît venir les mages, les Chaldéens et les augures; et le roi, prenant la parole, dit aux sages de Babylone: Quiconque lira cette écriture et m'en donnera l'interprétation sera revêtu de pourpre, aura un collier d'or à son cou et sera le troisième dans mon royaume.
8 Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.	8 Tous les sages du roi, étant alors entrés, ne purent ni lire l'écriture, ni en donner l'interprétation au roi.
9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.	9 Aussi le roi Baltassar fut-il très troublé, et son visage fut changé, et les grands furent troublés comme lui.
10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:	10 Mais la reine, à cause de ce qui était arrivé au roi et à ses grands, entra dans la salle du festin et dit: O roi, vis éternellement! Que tes pensées ne te troublent point, et que ton visage ne se change pas.
11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;	11 Il y a dans ton royaume un homme qui a en lui l'esprit des dieux saints, et, du temps de ton père, on a trouvé en lui la science et la sagesse; aussi le roi Nabuchodonosor, ton père, l'établit-il chef des mages, des enchanteurs, des Chaldéens et des augures; ton père, dis-je, ô roi;
12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.	12 parce qu'on trouva dans cet homme, dans Daniel, à qui le roi donna le nom de Baltassar, un esprit supérieur, de la prudence, de l'intelligence, le don d'interpréter les songes, de découvrir les secrets et de résoudre les questions les plus difficiles. Qu'on appelle donc maintenant Daniel, et il donnera l'interprétation.
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?	13 Daniel fut donc introduit devant le roi; et le roi lui dit: Es-tu Daniel, l'un des captifs des enfants de Juda, que le roi mon père a amené de Judée?
14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.	14 On m'a dit de toi que tu as l'esprit des dieux, et qu'il s'est trouvé en toi une science, une intelligence et une sagesse supérieures.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:	15 Je viens de faire venir devant moi les sages et les mages, pour lire cette écriture et pour m'en indiquer l'interprétation, et ils n'ont pu me dire quel est le sens des mots.
16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.	16 Mais on m'a dit de toi que tu peux expliquer les choses obscures et résoudre les questions embarrassées; si donc tu peux lire cette écriture et m'en indiquer l'interprétation, tu seras revêtu de pourpre et tu porteras un collier d'or à ton cou, et tu seras le troisième prince dans mon royaume.
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.	17 Daniel, répondant à ces paroles, dit en présence du roi: Que tes présents soient à toi, et donne à un autre les biens de ta maison; je te lirai néanmoins cette écriture, ô roi, et je t'en indiquerai l'interprétation.
18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:	18 O roi, le Dieu très haut donna à Nabuchodonosor, ton père, le royaume, la grandeur, la gloire et l'honneur;
19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.	19 et, à cause de la grandeur qu'Il lui avait donnée, tous les peuples, toutes les nations et toutes les langues le craignaient et tremblaient devant lui: il faisait mourir ceux qu'il voulait, il frappait ceux qu'il voulait, il élevait ceux qu'il voulait, et il abaissait ceux qu'il voulait.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:	20 Mais, après que son coeur se fut élevé et que son esprit se fut affermi dans l'orgueil, il fut déposé de son trône royal, sa gloire lui fut enlevée,
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.	21 et il fut chassé du milieu des enfants des hommes; son coeur devint semblable à celui des bêtes, et sa demeure fut avec les ânes sauvages, il mangea l'herbe des champs comme un boeuf, et son corps fut trempé de la rosée du ciel, jusqu'à ce qu'il reconnût que le Très-Haut a la puissance sur le royaume des hommes, et qu'Il y établit qui il Lui plaît.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;	22 Toi aussi, Baltassar, son fils, tu n'as pas humilié ton coeur, quoique tu susses toutes ces choses;
23 But hast lifted up thyself against the LORD of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:	23 mais tu t'es élevé contre le Dominateur du Ciel; les vases de Sa maison ont été apportés devant toi, et vous y avez bu du vin, toi, tes grands, tes femmes et tes concubines. En même temps tu as loué les dieux d'argent et d'or, d'airain et de fer, de bois et de pierre, qui ne voient point, qui n'entendent point et qui ne sentent point, et tu n'as pas glorifié Dieu, qui tient dans Sa main ton souffle et toutes les voies.
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.	24 C'est pourquoi Il a envoyé l'extrémité de cette main, qui a écrit ce qui est marqué sur la muraille.
25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.	25 Or voici l'écriture qui a été tracée: Mané, Thécel, Pharès.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.	26 Et voici l'interprétation de ces mots. Mané: Dieu a compté ton règne et y a mis fin.
27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.	27 Thécel: tu as été pesé dans la balance, et tu as été trouvé trop léger.
28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.	28 Pharès: ton royaume a été divisé, et donné aux Mèdes et aux Perses.
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.	29 Alors, par l'ordre du roi, Daniel fut revêtu de pourpre, et on lui mit au cou un collier d'or, et on publia qu'il avait en puissance le troisième rang dans le royaume.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.	30 Cette même nuit, Baltassar, roi des Chaldéens, fut tué.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.	31 Et Darius le Mède lui succéda dans la royauté, étant âgé de soixante-deux ans.
