Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,1 «Entona una elegía por los príncipes de Israel.
And say, What is thy mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.2 Dirás: “Tu madre era una leona entre los leones; tumbada en medio de los leoncillos amamantaba a sus cachorros.
And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.3 Crió con esmero a uno de sus cachorros, que se hizo un joven león, aprendió a desgarrar a su presa, a devorar hombres.
The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.4 Pero reclutaron gente contra él, lo atraparon en una fosa y con ganchos se lo llevaron a Egipto.
Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.5 Viendo que lo esperaba en vano, la leona perdió su esperanza, escogió otro de sus cachorros y lo hizo un joven león.
And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men.6 Viviendo entre los leones se hizo todo un león: aprendió a desgarrar a su presa y a devorar hombres.
And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise of his roaring.7 Hacía estragos en sus palacios, asolaba sus ciudades; el país y sus habitantes estaban horrorizados por el rumor de su rugido.
Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.8 Las gentes de los alrededores y comarcas vecinas se organizaron contra él, le tendieron sus redes y quedó atrapado en una fosa.
And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.9 Lo encerraron en una jaula y con ganchos lo llevaron al rey de Babilonia. Lo pusieron en un lugar seguro, para que no se oyera más su rugido sobre los montes de Israel”.
Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.10 “Tu madre era como una vid, plantada junto a las aguas, fecunda y rica en sarmientos por la abundancia de agua.
And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.11 Tenía vástagos robustos, buenos para cetro de gobernantes. Su altura sobresalía entre los arbustos. Se distinguía por la altura y la abundancia de las ramas.
But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.12 Pero fue arrancada con furor y arrojada por tierra. El viento del este secó sus frutos; ya separados, se secaron; y el fuego devoró el vástago robusto.
And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.13 Ahora está plantada en el desierto, en una tierra árida y sedienta.
And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.14 Brotó fuego del tronco y devoró sus brotes y sus frutos. No ha quedado en ella ni un vástago robusto, bastón para gobernar”». (Es una elegía, se canta como tal).
