Jeremiah 4

1 If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.	1 "Bekehrst du dich, Israel", ist der Ausspruch des Herrn, "dann darfst du zu mir zurückkehren; schaffst du deine Greuel mir aus den Augen, so mußt du nicht unstet bleiben.
2 And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.	2 Und schwörst du wieder ehrlich, aufrichtig und recht: "So wahr der Herr lebt!", dann wünschen die Völker sich Segen durch dich, sie rühmen sich dann in dir."
3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.	3 Denn so spricht der Herr zu den Leuten von Juda und zu Jerusalem: "Brecht euch einen Neubruch um und säet nicht in die Dornen!
4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.	4 Beschneidet euch für den Herrn und entfernt eures Herzens Vorhaut, ihr Leute von Juda und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems, sonst bricht mein Zorn aus wie Feuer und brennt unauslöschlich ob eurer bösen Taten!
5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.	5 Macht es in Juda bekannt, und in Jerusalem meldet es, blast im Lande das Horn, ruft so laut wie möglich und sprecht: "Schart euch zusammen! Hinein in die befestigten Städte!
6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.	6 Ein Banner erhebt in Richtung auf Sion! Flieht, bleibt nicht stehen!" Denn Unheil verhänge ich vom Norden aus und schweren Zusammenbruch.
7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.	7 Der Löwe erhob sich aus seinem Dickicht, der Würger der Völker brach los, zog von seiner Lagerstatt aus, um dein Land zur Wüste zu machen. Deine Städte werden verheert, niemand bewohnt sie mehr.
8 For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.	8 Darum gürtet euch in Trauergewänder, klagt und heult: "Die Zornglut des Herrn wandte sich von uns nicht ab!"
9 And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.	9 Alsdann geschieht es" - Spruch des Herrn -, "es schwindet dem König der Mut, es schwindet der Mut der Fürsten, verstört sind die Priester und die Propheten bestürzt.
10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.	10 Sie rufen: "Ach, Gebieter und Herr, gar sehr hast du getäuscht dies Volk und Jerusalem! Denn du sprachst: Heil wird euch zuteil! Nun aber geht uns das Schwert an die Kehle!"
11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,	11 In jener Zeit wird man von diesem Volk und von Jerusalem sagen: "Glutwind von den Höhen der Wüste fährt los über die Tochter meines Volkes, nicht zum Worfeln und nicht zum Säubern.
12 Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.	12 Ein Wind, zu stark dafür, kommt auf mein Geheiß. Nun spreche ich selbst das Urteil über sie.
13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.	13 Siehe, wie Wettergewölk steigt er auf, seine Wagen sind gleich dem Sturmwind, seine Rosse flinker als Adler! Weh über uns, wir sind verloren!"
14 O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?	14 Wasche vom Bösen dein Herz, Jerusalem, daß du gerettet wirst! Wie lange noch hausen in deiner Brust deine sündhaften Pläne?
15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.	15 Denn horch, man ruft es von Dan, man kündet Unheil von Ephraims Bergland:
16 Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.	16 Meldet von den Völkern: sie sind da! Gebt Jerusalem Nachricht: Feinde nahen aus fernem Land, erheben wider Judas Städte ihr Kriegsgeschrei!
17 As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.	17 Wie Feldwächter umstellen sie es ringsum; denn mir bot es Trotz" - Spruch des Herrn.
18 Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.	18 "Dein Wandel und deine Taten brachten dieses dir ein, deine Bosheit ist es, die dir so bitter das Herz trifft!"
19 My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.	19 Mein Leib, mein Leib! Ich winde mich, o meines Herzens Wände! Meine Seele bestürmt mich, ich darf nicht schweigen! Denn Hörnerschall höre ich, Kriegslärm.
20 Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.	20 Trümmer über Trümmer, so ruft man, vernichtet ist das ganze Land! Jählings sind meine Zelte vernichtet, meine Zeltdecken im Nu!
21 How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?	21 Wie lange muß ich das Kriegsbanner schauen, vernehmen den Hörnerschall?
22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.	22 "Ja, töricht ist mein Volk, mich kennen sie nicht. Einfältige Kinder sind sie, haben keine Einsicht. Weise sind sie, um Böses zu tun, Gutes zu tun, verstehen sie nicht."
23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.	23 Ich schaute die Erde wüst und leer, den Himmel ohne sein Licht.
24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.	24 Ich schaute die Berge, sie aber wankten, und alle die Höhen erbebten.
25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.	25 Ich schaute, und siehe, kein Mensch war da, alle Vögel des Himmels waren verschwunden.
26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.	26 Ich schaute, und siehe, zur Wüste ward Fruchtland; all seine Städte waren zerstört vor dem Antlitz des Herrn, von der Glut seines Zornes.
27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.	27 Denn so sprach der Herr: "Wüste werde das ganze Land, aber den Garaus mache ich nicht.
28 For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.	28 Die Erde trauert darüber, der Himmel droben wird düster; denn ich habe es gesagt und ersonnen; es reut mich nicht, ich nehme es nicht zurück."
29 The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.	29 Vor der Wagenkämpfer und Bogenschützen Geschrei flieht das ganze Land. Man verkriecht sich im Dickicht, steigt die Felsen hinauf, vereinsamt ist jegliche Stadt, kein Bürger wohnt mehr darin.
30 And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.	30 Du aber, was machst du, daß du dich kleidest in Purpur, daß du mit Goldschmuck dich behängst, daß du dir mit Schminke die Augen hervorhebst? Umsonst machst du dich schön! Die Liebhaber verschmähen dich, sie trachten dir nach dem Leben.
31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.	31 Ja, Schreie höre ich wie von einer Frau in Wehen, Angstrufe wie von einer Erstgebärenden, die Stimme der Tochter Sion, die stöhnend ihre Hände ringt: "Weh mir, unter Mördern vergeht mein Leben!"
